Rowdy Roddy Piper reveals the real reason he left WWF the first time. Full shoot ➤ TitleMatchNetwork.com
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper is one of the most legendary professional wrestlers of all time. The rock n' wrestling boom period in 1980's WWF was built primarily around the Rowdy Roddy Piper vs Hulk Hogan feud.
Between War to Settle the Score, Wrestlemania 1 and The Wrestling Classic, Piper vs Hogan was essential to everything WWF in 1985. So how come by Wrestlemania 3 Piper was on his way out of the World Wrestling Federation?
In his own words, hear why Roddy Piper left WWF the first time and how he was later fired after he came back. Piper also discusses his relationship with Vince McMahon during this period.
Later we talk about why Roddy went to the commentary team. This is around the time when both he and Randy Savage were fired and replaced with Curt Hennig. Also, learn why Roddy was happy to do the job for Ric Flair when he came to WWF.

Piper knew how to cut a promo, that’s for sure. As D-Von Dudley once said about how great Pipers promos were: “I remember wanting to reach through the TV and strangle him, but at the same time, I loved what he did”.
@kennethjames9999
@kennethjames9999 3 года назад
If you watch the A&E biography that just came out it shows the work and time Hot Rod put into his promos. He had legal pads full of stuff he came up with. "I came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum" was all Piper.
@DoppelgangerShockwave
@DoppelgangerShockwave 3 года назад
Now I see why Piper's time as color commentator after Ventura left wasn't all that great. Piper simply had no heart in it. He still wanted to wrestle and keep the spotlight on himself. As for his reputation of not doing jobs for other prominent wrestlers, there's only one guy he never did a job for. Hulk Hogan. Piper made it very clear why. He didn't want to tarnish his own reputation by letting Hogan beat him on TV during a time when Piper was becoming the hottest heal in wrestling. From a financial standpoint, that was a very smart move because it helped to push an angle of two goliaths from different ends of the spectrum who easily had the audience in the palms of their hands. Without Hogan and Piper, the WWF in the 1980's would not have been as good as it was.
@craigyoung4156
@craigyoung4156 3 года назад
I agree Hogan and Piper made the WWF at time.
@SuperGuitarDude7
@SuperGuitarDude7 3 года назад
The older pro wrestlers were very conscious of their personas and doing a job for someone was not cool. It didn't mean just losing to someone. It meant letting them beat you pretty quick and easy and these guys spent years building up their reputation and characters. Then, all of a sudden, if they do job the fans are like, they just got whipped by so and so. Then they don't expect you to do good. Then, the managment doesn't expect it. Then they expect you to job for this person and that person, and then your career's in the dumper.
@ThorMaximus
@ThorMaximus 3 года назад
Piper rarely did jobs. He probably could have made more $, but didn’t do prolonged program with Hogan. Everyone else who did - they dropped hard after run vs. Hogan was done: even TOP guys like Orndorff, DiBiase, Mr. Perfect - only Savage came back from the post-Hogan burial. Don’t underestimate how he literally rose from the ashes like a Phoenix. And really it took reuniting with Elizabeth (and being at right place/right time to slide into program with Flair at WM8 since Hogan had to bolt - steroid trial). Piper protected his character hard and when he did the rub, see Bret Hart, it meant more. But absolutely right about why he didn’t work on color commentary-their job is to get over guys on screen. Ventura did it without you realizing it (constantly bashing Tito Santana but they were best friends and it got attention to Tito) - Heenan was a master class of doing it. Henning gave Michaels the nickname Heartbreak Kid.... Piper was still about being wrestler first as commentary.
