I still use it when I do my videos. It works well outside but honestly I have not tried it in extremely windy conditions but I imagine if you set the settings correctly it will handle conditions like that very well, it’s a really mic

How long would you say it took to charge the lithium battery that comes with it? I've had mine plugged into a wall for about 8 hours, and it's still slow blinking blue. That seems like a long time?

I happen to have the big microphone the one that's like that one but bigger has a red bottom to it I can't remember the name of it audio audio something it's on audio Pro one is when they're older models I'm always wondering if I plan on getting the Sony z90 which might do you think that would be great for that, they got a bunch of them like you would do a stereo microphone if possible

Great video! I've had this mic for about 6 months using it with an Olympus OMD EM1 Mark II. I find the microphone randomly switches off when I hit record. I first noticed this when I'd play back footage and there was no sound. I've doubled checked my mic is on before recording, but when I hit recording it will turn the mic off only sometimes, so I have to turn the mic back on once I hit record. Super annoying because there is a lag time and in some scenarios I miss shots because I have to mess around with this. I'd love some advise if you have any.. Thank you!

No problem, and yes you will enjoy it, it’s a good quality mic. You can use omit out side when it’s some what windy and it works well. You can also use it with a boom in a studio setting to record videos

Yeah nice video. Just wondering if you have any preferred settings on that Mic yet that you find are better than others. Curious how you would set it up for either outdoor shooting or how you prefer to set it up for some in studio sound. stuff like that.

I still need to do some video reviews. Actually I like using the +20 setting. That works real nice indoors so far. But I had to turn down the internal mic on my camera and set it to manual. A very important step otherwise it will sound terrible. I hope to get some videos out soon. I really apologize I was sick for a couple weeks with a cold which delayed me big time and I also have another job as well but I’m working on getting some new videos out

It is possible to take the Wind shield off. The rubber back you said it was glued to is a part of the shield :P Just pull it off by lifting the rubber part too :)

Hi Jamie, I just purchased the Rode VideomicPro + and I'm having trouble with the automatic power function. The camera I'm connecting it to is a Sony a7riii. I made sure to enable the auto power function, but regardless if I turn on/off the camera, the mic will not respond. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Do you know for sure that you have the feature itself turned on? I mean on the MIC you can turn on and off the auto on and off feature. Make sure first that that is correct. Then I would check the settings in your camera and make sure the externalic port is enabled because it might be trying to use your on board mic the one built in the camera. You might have to go in and enable use of an external mic then it might work. There are also other troubleshooting methods to try

It should work with most cameras maybe its also a feature on this microphone so make sure you watch near the end of this video where I show how to turn the feature on and off. Like when you turn the camera off then the mic shuts off automatically

Thank you for your effort on this video. Although I've been using this VideoMicPro+ since it came out new, I learned several things from watching your video. I was just so thrilled that Rode went from having the worst battery cages to the best with the 100 hour rechargeable battery that I didn't realize some of the other detailed features you talked about. However, I can't get the mic to power on and off automatically on my Canon G-30 camcorder as you described enthusiastically in your presentation. Are there exceptions to your statement?

It should turn on and off for you if you have it plugged in. at the end of my video or towards the end I show how to turn that feature on and off, make sure that it is enabled so it works for you automatically, I wouldn't know any other reason why it s=wouldn't work. If you can't get it you might want to contact the manufacture and see if the know because yours should still be under warranty

That’s actually really close to the correct settings or at least settings that sound really good I’m pretty sure I have my marks the same like I’m at four notches right now on my internal thing and my DSLR so it sounds like you’re settings are just like mineIf I knew of better settings I would tell you but I have not had a real chance to go through it carefully and test all the settings out

I don’t have those cameras to do an accurate video for you but I know you definitely want to turn down the internal mic on each of those models make sure you put it in manual mode before using this mic

75 works well but I still havent used it in high winds to give you a real accurate answer but it does work well in high winds I just don't know what settings fits it best for those conditions

it's like plastic but I think the threaded screw part is metal but the little twisty thing is plastic but it's a good grade and feels preety good quality mine works well

I followed instructions and your video and got the single flashing light to indicate the auto power should then work with the camera switching off and on.... but it doesn't. *Can anyone suggest anything*?

The auto-power function only works if your camera delivers plug-in power, so to make sure it's on on the mic you want to press the power button and the high pass button at the same time and it should flash 3 times showing that it's disabled, just press those again and you should see it flash green ONCE that means that auto power off feature is enabled and it should work then

But I did say above that I have indeed done as you suggest and got the single green flash to indicate the power feature is enabled, but it still does not work. And it is so annoying having to do it manually, and yes, I continually forgot to switch it off. Can you think of any reason why after doing exactly as you describe, it still does not work? Super dumb question. I have a Sony A7RIII. If I just plug in the microphone does the camera automatically know that the mic is there, bypassing the internal microphone or do I have to change settings in the camera?

Great question and I believe you have to manually turn down the volume of your cameras internal mic like I had to do with my canon. I had to turn my internal mic in my camera way down. I think your camera will recognize that an external mic is connected. Some cameras are different and it may depend on the camera. I guess I should do a video on this to share with everyone on how I do it.

I thought it only showed green for AA batteries and blue for the original rode mic battery pack. Id the one you have original? Cause I'm not real sure why it would be doing that. You might need to call the manufacture.

You'll be making a big mistake to send this microphone back like the same as shooting yourself in the foot. The supplied 100 hour rechargeable battery is the best thing Rode has yet done for batteries and reducing one's replacement costs over local, store bought batteries. Keep asking others who own the VideoMicPro+ questions you have and how they like it. You'll be hard pressed to find anyone that doesn't love, love, love that new battery cage that is much easier to open and close, and especially the 100 hour rechargeable battery!

I can't get it to record sound at all with my 5D IV and I can't work out what I'm doing wrong. VideoMic Pro+ is fully charged, and turning on and off automatically when I turn camera on and off. Cable is in the right hole (Mic) on camera...Sound is set to Manual in camera settings... what else is there that I could be doing wrong? Please help. I've recorded with and without the Mic and the results on my video are the same, and I can't feel the vibration on the Rode that I should get when it's recording.... Help! I need this to work before Sunday when I'm recording a dance rehearsal...

make sure your pushing in the headphone cable all the way into the camera. It should kinda like click two times. Sometimes you have to press them in a little harder, I'm not saying you don't know how to plug it in or anything but just double check that first that it's plugged in as far as it will go into the camera.

after you change it to manual make sure you have adjusted the recording level to. you can turn that one up and down

Hi Mate Great video and very informative - but could someone PLEASE help me understand how to setup the ‘safety channel’ feature when making a recording into the Rode REC iPhone app ? It’s the feature that cuts 10db off in a seperate mono channel Can’t find a single thing online how to get this happening in my recordings Any help greatly appreciated !

ClashOfClans you can still use an external Battery to use it. RØDE's technical support might be able to help if it still doesn't do what you need it to do.

both of those are awesome, I couldn't tell you for sure since I don't own either one and I can't give you a real honest answer, but I have the canon SL2 which does good for me but it's not 4k, I am also considering a new 4K one this year, I'm probably going to start my research with Canon first since I already have one and I'm happy with it, that 90D sounds pretty nice, some of them are like around 5K dollars and they are water proof also, which is awesome.. !

I just rewatched this video for the features and settings you covered very clearly. Thanks again. P.S. I don't know why anyone would want to disable the auto on-off feature of this mic. I would think most who would use this mic do so in run and gun situations. And in run and gun, you don't want to have to worry about the mic not going on, or forgetting to turn it off. But, it's there if you want it. I guess. :P

today i just reveived my rode pro plus this the first time i but one, when i conect the rode to my camara and star recoding look like that the rode plus is not recoding or is not working, how do i know that the rode plus is recording? when i check the video on premier i dont see the file from my rode pro plus. just is not working. do u have any idea whats wrong? and i conect the cable very well

I only see one audio file but this is from the camara. I think is supposed to have two audio file. One from the camara and one from the mic rode plus right?

No it’s usually just one file. You might have to go into your camera settings on your camera and make sure you tell it to use an external mic another words you might have to change it from the default microphone on the camera over to your road plus microphone check your camera settings there might be a setting in there to do that where there should be

don't know why buy my mic doesn't turnoff when connected to my camera. i always have to turn the camera on and then turn on the mic separately.

You can actually turn that feature on and off by pressing a certain command on the mic. I showed how to do it in my video towards the end, check to see if you have it enabled. I think the manual also shows how you can do it. That might be the issues

I have this microphone and I paid more money for the rechargeable battery and the darn battery does not recharge. I passed the return window, so to me, this is a dud.

The issue with the battery charging is the 3rd battery contact...poor design as when you put the battery pack in, it squishes it to the bottom. You simply need about an 1.25 inch piece of copper wire...bend it in an L shape...so it's fits on the bottom and on the grooved side with the contact area...and slide it in...it should work..you should see the flashing blue light when you plug in it. Otherwise..contact Rode..they're good about taking it back and fixing it.
