Using a dslr you would reduce the on board sound leveller and set pro to +20. On board reduced to -12.This would provide clear audio for voice and kill more background noise.

Dont go by this video, the one thing this video messes up in is it fails to use the Rode's superior amp and in all the samples here the in camera pre amp is turned up to 15-16... If you are going to use Sony's garbage preamp then there is no reason to use a good mic at all.
@Nonskiller
@Nonskiller 7 лет назад
Honestly... just him showing as the Micro.. it seems better lolol. But I feel I wouldn't use the Micro in noisy areas. I would use it I would just the Pro instead.
@JustinCrediblename
@JustinCrediblename 5 лет назад
@@Nonskiller Just use the wind sock. it sounds fantastic! lots of high frequency data from the Micro that the Pro seemed to be missing! I don't regret choosing the micro at all! I've got $700 gift cert. money on Amazon and I have nothing to spend it on! 'definitely not going to bother with the Pro. It's too big, too heavy, too unbalanced, and I prefer the sound quality of the micro!!

Great video! I have a new Sony A6500 and I would like to record better audio. I had decided to get the VideoMic Pro but after watching this video... I've just bought the VideoMicro for a few reasons: small size, no battery needed, great audio quality on the A6300/A6500, price (and dead-cat is included!). This video helped me a lot. THANK YOU so much!!

Just the video I was looking for. Thanks a million. I couldn't figure out why my audio was still coming out low with the Micro, internal audio at 16, even in quiet place. Apparently I need to take the wind sleeve off and only use it when there's loud external noise. Thanks again! I subbed for your excellent work.

I believe the Micro is designed to have the included furry windshield always on to neutralize the mic's sensitivity from the upper to mid range. It does sound incredible, though, for such a short cardiod mic powered only via the 3.5mm jack.

The videomic pro is a must for all canon cameras because the on board pre-amp is terrible and the Rode amp is a lifesaver. The pre-amp in the sony cameras are amazing and I've found the micro to sound much better than my pro, and it leaves a much smaller footprint. The micro on my 70D sounds like absolutely garbage in any setting haha. The pro has its advantages being more of a shotgun mic picking up only whats in front of it while the micro is more of an omni directional pattern but it creates a much more lifelike sound, similar to Rodes stereo videomic. Great review, I came here from @Rode Microphones twitter share!

This was really helpful. Thanks for making the effort. Mostly prefer the pro - but the one with the water background was pretty loud and didn't filter out the water well when you spoke. Makes me wonder what it would be like to film in a room of people but focusing on 1. Maybe best to just get a lav for that.

A lapel wireless system might have been better outdoors. Any comparison indoors between an omnidirectional mic (Sony on camera) vs. an omnidirectional mic (Rode) will always favor the omnidirectional. And why no wind screen on the Micro?

I used the video micro for some challenging interviews near a beach with a ton of wind and was shocked at the quality of the sound . From some online reviews the mic seemed a bit tinny but from my experience I found it to be quite good quality. You do need to use the fuzzy cat windscreen because the micro will pickup a ton of wind noise. I also shot some small music groups on the street and the sound was tremendous. I have been editing for over 30 years so I have heard all kinds of sound and for the money this little mic is a winner in my opinion. It is rugged and the suspension system Lyre is pretty rugged as well. The mic is entirely metal body and the connection to the mic and camera is very sturdy. I will buy another one if I can find one on sale.

hey! great video thank you! just fyi, it's my understanding that the "ports" on the side of the micro are actually for rejecting a little side noise, just a little, compared to a full shotgun mic's many "ports" to make the mic super directional, and reject side and rear noise! I love the micro.

The Rode mics obviously sound better than the onboard, but you could use an equalizer in your editing software to make the cheaper mic sound more like the more expensive and vice versa and save a bunch of money. The micro mic does sound clearer (more information above 10k) the more expensive one sounds fuller (you could boost 160-200hz) a little eq on the cheap one and you’d get comparable results to the more expensive, assuming you prefer the more expensive. .
