Before an artist is formally invited, they are asked ahead of time to meet certain criteria. One of them is to agree to a certain number of performances a year. It could be that he's been approached & has (assumedly) politely declined. This is why George Strait is not a member.

The first time I ever heard this song was on a Merele Haggard album in the early 70's....And I also had a Willie Nelson album, that also had this song on it & an Emmylou Harris album with this song on it, but, this is my favorite version of the song....

Àfter many years of listening to this song it's the first time I've heard the author actually sing it. If he sang it backwards I still wouldn' t pass judgement on his ability. Shame for such a comment! Ths guy is àn outstanding performer and songwriter, one of the best!
