@@vvaltierra5556 It's not a matter of being a popularity contest, and it's interesting you say it's not a matter of sweet and tender subjective opinions then follow it up DIRECTLY with a subjective OPINION. Greatest of All Time - Mania isn't something new being debated , in a variety of sports. Novak has captured many ATP records, Nadal a couple himself, RF still holding on to many that will probably never be touched, so where do you draw the line already eliminating him when Hall of Fame players/analysts still have him very much in the conversation? I'd like to know the credentials that put you and your opinion (shared by many, I'll admit) ahead of players and former players that COMPLETELY disagree with your statement. I'd venture to say Michael Jordan is probably the widest-margin "GOAT" if there ever was a clear-cut, and he was the furthest thing from the winningest player ever, didn't retire with the most points, rebounds, steals or assists, yet he maintains this status based on his playing style and HOW HE CHANGED THE GAME. If you're going to throw around terms like GOAT, it absolutely has ALWAYS gone beyond just the stats, or every GOAT people have named in sports (Jordan, Tiger, Nicklaus, Ali) are all just false, no? Nothing will eliminate Novak or Rafa from always being in the conversation, and I don't believe anyone that knows sports and more specifically tennis will ever not have Roger sitting at the head of that table of conversation as well.

@@vvaltierra5556 Roger - The magician Rafa - The warrior Novak - The machine Greatness lies in the eyes of the beholder. I consider Roger the greatest. I prefer magic. Magic is hard to replicate. His talent and style combined with his winning makes him quite unique unlike the other two greats. The thing about records is that they are always broken. Roger set those records to start with for other people to chase. It’s easier having a target to chase than setting one for others to chase. You just never know what number is enough and the motivation isn’t the same. So if someone comes along and breaks it, yes that makes them great but numbers cannot be the only measure for greatness.

I am awestruck with the contrast between the sheer brilliance of his game and the simplicity he oozes in his expressions/talks. How he transcended his mindset early in juniors from being a grumpy junior, he learned to play his game his own way not just somebody else's idea of showing off how feisty one ought to be on court, he admits he had to work hard to find that grit & fight because maybe it was not ingrained in his DNA, and he overcame all that. I think these are the lessons for the juniors, aspiring professionals ... you can be your own and still rise to the top. The cookie cutter behavior from tennis manuals/books/coaching is laying out the trap for players to do something that is not their nature. The sport can be done in more than just a few effective ways. Creative talent!!

And I see what he is saying, the people said after Sampras and Agassi quit that tennis wouldn't be the same as well. But well, then we got Roger! And though the other guys are great players, they are nothing like Roger as people. Federer was not just an amazing player, he was the greatest ambassador, the game and the history and future really matters to him. He had a great relationship with everyone, players, press, fans etc. It is because of who he is as a person, because of his character and personality, not just his talent and success that people loved him. And personally, I don't think we'll see something like him again. In fact, I feel really sorry for this generation and the ones to come, and I'm very thankful I got to experience Federer's career ("live").

This is also another off-court part that I'll sorely miss Roger for - such incredible articulation of ideas and experiences all chock-full of gold nuggets for pros and amateurs alike.
