Every one of Fed's winners from 1-3 down in the final set, were fully committed, do-or-die shots. The power he was generating off his backhand was just incredible. Both players threw the kitchen sink at one another and, in the end, Roger was last man standing. I have watched this last set, countless times, and, it never gets old. For all tennis fans, this was Rafa & Roger's "gift" for the ages!

I don't think anyone will ever forget this match. Federer was 1- 3 down in the final set. Than he came back with those unforgettable shots. Fortunate that i have seen it live.

Rafa may think sometimes, "I had it, I was so close and I let it go". But when you watch the full set, Rafa has absolutely nothing to regret about. Federer simply entered the clutch zone, and started to find his way to the title via winners. He took all risks, he went for it, he wished the victory more. It was his best set in terms of mindset. Roger won. On the other hand, Rafa did let the victory go against Novak in 2012, when he was a break up 4-2 and 30-15, when he missed that infamous easy backhand passing shot that would eventually lead to Novak's victory. Anyway, these two finals are, probably, Rafa's most painful losses of his career.

When he was down 1-3 I thought it was all over, the fairy tale was too good to be true. Yet the most magical thing happened. Still my favorite sports moment ever.

Was watching it live, was in tears then, am in tears now. Simply amazing !

There has been good tennis players. There has been truly great tennis players. But there is only 1 Roger Federer and I dont think I will ever see another man who'll come even remotely close to him. He truly has set the bar to a height NO other tennis player will attain in a very long time. RESPECT Roger.

This entire tournament is seriously one of the best of Federer´s career. In terms of beating opponents and being clutch. Best tennis he played since Roland Garros 2011 where he beat Djockovic at his ultra peak and gave Nadal serious problems in the final, losing in four sets, including losing a tie break. Very different tennis. In 2011 at Roland Garros he was playing an uncharacteristcally grinding version of tennis, playing long point against Djockovic and Nadal, not being ultra agressive as he usually is against those two. In this tournament he is 35 years old, difficult draw and is forced to play a much more aggressive game. He beat Melzer in 4, a Jurgen Melzer who still had some fight left in him, then Noah Rubin, then straight setted Berdych in an incredible display, then beat peak deciding setikori in 5 in the 4th round, so thats two slam finalists before even the quarterfinal. In semis and quarters he was more kucky playing Misha Zverev and Wawrinka. Two players that are easy match ups for him. Fed and been out for a while and no one expected him to reach the final and Nadal was heavy favourite in the final. In their last 20 meetings Fed had win just 5, Nadal 15. Fed hadnt beaten Nadal at a slam for literally 10 years. And despite falling back he went and fucking did it. Im not a Fed fan per say, but I prefer him over Nadal. And this was maybe the most epic match I have ever seen. The old GOAT showing the bull that he still had some tricks up his sleeve that he was still the goat

I love both players. But you cannot deny it was a “Return of the King” moment! After coming back from injury and winning his 18th slam it was definitely a magical and inspiring moment. Love the stories we will tell to those future tennis players someday :)

The opponent, the location, his age, the circumstances. For Federer fans, if this was not his greatest victory, it ranks amongst the highest. He went all out and it worked. Extraordinary play, game by game, and the last set was sensational. Unforgettable.

We've been privileged to be around during an age when tennis is televised across the whole world, and during which the two greatest players ever to pick up a racket have put on some absolutely astonishing shows for us. The sport is immeasurably greater because of these two men. Whenever they meet they throw everything at each other, and it's beautiful.

This match is like someone wrote it for a movie, with all the titles and things on the line for the final. It was more than perfect. many matches like this just dont happen, either someone loses early or they play and one of them is just bad. Then the break back in the final set to win its just perfect story material right there. Its still crazy to me this actually happened lol

Returning to this after watching the Nadal Medvedev 2022 final makes me very emotional. Not because Fed the man is on the cusp of retiring, but rather because his playing style will go with him. I watched the entire final this year glued to the screen, and it was one of the best matches I've seen. But Fed's blend of attacking tennis (standing inside or close to baseline by default) and feel/touch (just pure magic when he's "on") may never be seen again. I've had the pleasure of seeing Nadal live and in person twice, but never Roger, and I long for his game to live on, even if he retires. I just personally think it is the most gorgeous version of tennis.

Man I watched this whole match on my phone laying on the floor in the living room of my apt, in the late/early hours of the morning on the east coast. Man this was a crazy tourney for him, people forget he was just coming back & working his way back into form. I remember watching this and feeling like he learned a few things over the years. He took the ball much earlier in many times to break the rhythm and like you all have said that backhand was good… so much so that he really started to take away Rafa’s forehand. Crazy times.

I ve been following his and Nadal's entire career and I got used to expect Nadal to prevail mentally always.
