Thank you for covering Rogers Park! This is the neighborhood where a lot of immigrants, refugees, people from other states, and anyone else that is new to Illinois can move to and blend in. NO one stands out here because it’s super diverse with restaurants from different countries, festivals that celebrate different countries, and you walk down the street and easily hear different languages. You have blacks, whites, Asians, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, MiddleEasterners, South East Asians, Israelites, etc etc. Some blocks are marked by certain groups of people. For example we have an “Indian neighborhood,” “Jewish neighborhood,” “Mexican neighborhood,” and then blocks where it’s extremely mixed w everyone in that area. You can find one bedroom apts for $900, access to public transportation from any street in the neighborhood, and you’re extremely close to the beach(lakefront.) There are also mom and pop shops everywhere. It’s not considered the hood but can be hoodish around the train stations and sidestreets near the train. Some blocks are considered more artsy and others are rougher(especially near the redline stops.) Yes there is crime but it’s not total chaos and mayhem. Most people here are friendly and will speak to a stranger asking for directions, etc. Such a good neighborhood to get introduced to Chicago.
@@jumbothompson It's not sketchy around Morse anymore, mainly because the buildings that were causing the problems were vacated and renovated into nice, market-rate apartments. Same with other formerly-troubled buildings in the area.
Alot of cheap 1 br apartments and condos in Rogers Park. Rent can be found as low as $800 and the cheapest 1br condos are $75k. It's a very diverse and fairly safe neighborhood. People from many different nationalities live there. Both affordable and expensive housing
Perfect description of our neighborhood. You can go pretty low or very high, though the minimum rents are higher than you say- the cheapest studio a friend of mine could find is $900, and it's a dump, though the building is cute and on a pretty street. One-bedroom condos start at $115K for something with 600-700 sq ft. A good-size one bed in a nice building will start at $1200, and a one bed condo will usually be $140K or more. Houses start at about $450K and go clear into 7 digits, and buyers of grand old houses fallen into decrepitude are shoveling hundreds of thousands of $$ into them. Drive by the house on the southwest corner of Sheridan if you haven't already- the house was unstable and uninhabitable when purchased from an heir about a decade back, selling for $400,000. The buyer has just about rebuilt the place from scratch and had to have spent at least $1 Million on it.
@@chicagonorthcoastdo you enjoy living in rogers park (if you live there)? Are there fun things to do for someone in their early 30s? Is around Clark and Greenleaf a hood area to move to?
Rogers Park is a fairly safe part of the city. You’re misleading people by stating it’s dangerous while driving during the day. During the day, you have people commuting to work and kids going to school. You’ll see moms walking with kids in strollers, and Loyola University students heading to class. You make it sound like it’s all crackheads ready to attack. I lived there for 16 years and never feared for my life. Take precautions at night. There are a lot of dark streets with not enough traffic to be safe. Avoid a few blocks that are notorious for violence. You’ll be fine.
I think Rogers Park had one or two murders last year. Thats very low compared to the worst neighborhood. Even Uptown which is usually the worst of the North Side is doing much better than years past. But yeah i don't consider Rogers Park as dangerous
couple years ago I was living at the chalet and that place really helped me get back on my feet. I couldn't get approved for an apartment so I had to go back to my college. Hopefully one day I could go back.
Lol I used to live in Rogers Park. The only way you’d experience violence is if you were into selling drugs or you were at the wrong place, wrong time. I miss Howard street. ❤
Speaking as a 26-year Rogers Park denizen myself, I'm still not nuts about Howard St east of Clark, but it has greatly improved and I don't fear it. I've lived up here for over 25 years, am an older women, and walk where I want and when I want. I have had no problems ever.
Rogers Park is the great neighborhood every area has their bad little spot which is down under by the red line train pacifically the Howard stop everywhere else you're pretty much good can walk and enjoy
That's my street, Ridge Boulevard. Great neighborhood. But it's too bad they didn't film the opposite side of the street, where sits one of the most spectacular apartment buildngs in Chicago.
Hey what you should do when you come back from FL . Go to Hernando Beach in Hernando county off Shoal line Blvd . Show your viewers the beautiful houses there then go down to the other side of Shoal line Blvd and show them the hoods of that area . Which is weeki wachie. Off of 50
indeed this is rogers park , but remember hoods are way different from day time to night time ! rogers park is very dangerous around 7400 block and east rogers park near the beach
The only part of Rogers Park I dislike and consider dangerous is the North of Howard area, bonded by Howard to the south, Sheridan to the East, and Marshfield to the west. Mind you, I haven't heard anything bad going on there lately, but it still has a dodgy vibe. However, I am around the 7400 block Sheridan rather a lot as I have friends over there and I have never, ever had a problem there. It also looks even better than it did in the past- notice the vast rebuild of the beautiful old house on the southwest corner of Fargo and Sheridan that stood empty and deteriorated for years. The new owner has practically rebuilt the place from scratch, spending at least $1,000,000 on the place, and it is quite a showcase now.
I agree Edgewater is even better than Rogers Park. I live and own my place in Rogers Park but Edgewater has become my favorite neighborhood. They're both pretty and interesting, but Edgewater has a more urban vibe and offers more retail and restaurants.
@@jayhill9608 I'm an old woman who moved here in '87 and have been safe and good on the north lake front, in Lakeview, Edgewater, and Rogers Park, ever since. I go where I please when I please on foot, on trains, and on buses and have never been bothered ever. But maybe that's because I've never involved myself in anything illicit. I notice that most of the shooting victims in this city are young guys involved in gang activity and/or drugs. I just steer clear of places where these types gather so I don't get caught in the crossfire.
There are some nice townhomes in Rogers Park, but who the heck would want to live there ? Mainly on the news it's always Englewood, Rogers Park doing dirt
Rogers Park hasn't been in the news for frequent violence for over 15 years now. There is a lot of new investment in the neighborhood and it is now reasonably safe.
