Great video with great timing! Was planning to get an rm-3 but I wanted an rm-6 and didn’t know if rogue would do that. Glad to hear and see it ! Always appreciate your content.
Nice rack......great breakdown on the upgrade. Appreciate the cost breakdown cause I think the financials have a big factor on people's decision process
As a heads up, Rogue will sell you an RM6 with a 30" depth. You just specify that you want 30" instead of 43" in the comments section of the final order screen. I'm waiting on mine now!
@@persistentconsistency man that's tempting. What did it cost if I can be so bold to ask. I like my Fortis Rack but I would sell it for a 6 post. I want to do a drop in Rhino. I emailed them if I could do it with my rack. I'm curious if the fact it's welded not bolted made a difference.
@@bmstylee I'm not too informed about the weld Fortis racks or the Rhino, but it's probably worth hitting Rogue up to see what's possible! They charge the same for the 30" depth version of the RM6, so that's the only thing that might throw someone off of that plan. I knew I wanted the 30" depth to minimize thee footprint and was just glad they allowed for that customization at all.
@@BasementBrandon I wanted this so badly, haha! If they ever offer the option, I'd be dumb enough to pay for the upgrade. 16" plate storage and 24" PR5000 front extensions would be a decent swap, if I ever wanted to work out front of the rack. I'm always spinning my wheels on potential mods.
After watching a bunch of your content, I believe you’ve talked me out of the SML-2 and opt for the RM3 instead - I like the versatility and the idea of not having to stare at a wall while doing squats. If you need a place to store your old mini feet let me know lol. I’m shocked Rogue is making you pay for anything at this point; you demonstrate the versatility of their equipment better than anyone I’ve seen on RU-vid including Rogue themselves. Because of your videos, I’m confident on what I am looking for out of a home gym without spending money on things that I will regret later on. Thanks man
FWIW: I just had Rogue do this for me for the same price as a normal RM-6 (Which stings a little in the sense that I'm paying the same for less steel). I knew I wanted a 6 post, but also wanted the smaller footprint. So if you want a 6 post, but don't want the full size, you can have it without making two separate purchases.
I ordered the RM-3 and then added the Titan uprights to made a 24" extension...free shipping the uprights include the 24" crossmembers! Then putting the Rogue Rhino in the 24" extension...very pumped
We briefly spoke on the FB page about mine because i have the exact setup (in light grey). I 100% agree with all of your points! The 30’’ is perfect, the RM6 is a bit ridiculous. I also wish they had 16’’ crossmembers instead of 24. I am hoping the next gen Slinger is improved because I am intrigued by the Rogue pull down attachment that fits the plate stack in the 24’’ section. Going to wait awhile for some reviews on it but a decent pull down system is the last big piece I need. Definitely think the upgrade was worth it, didn’t have the extra cash for the RM6 at the time and in the end it worked out because I am much happier with this setup. Keep up with the great reviews, your attention to detail has helped me avoid a lot of mistake purchases 👍
Thanks Drew. Sounds like Henniger is determined to make the Slinger functional but we will see. With the cost and pieces most might be better getting a standalone if they can fit it.
I have a rml-690 and I flipped it and I use the 24" part for rack pulls...RDL's...Pullups...Rows and the 43" side I squat and do my bench variations. I also store my weights at the far end of the 43" side...
@@BasementBrandon I ordered some. After emailing the company and them telling me I should be able to deadlift like any other 1.5 inch depth plate with a .75 inch depth plate I just can’t resist. I don’t need it for a barbell, but it’d be nice for other equipment that has really short collars.
Another great video. As a very happy owner of Prime Prodigy Selectorsized Rack, I'm excited to see what you think about the single stack piece when you get it.
Can't even stop in at Rogue and pick items up. Live local to their OH facility and still no luck. Had to still pay $170 in freight on a recent order that was delivered within the same city
@@bmstylee Yeah, was looking to upgrade to a Monster rack and no luck. Was one of the main reason why I considered Rogue was due to them being local. Thought it would help with costs.
@@TheStrengthClassroom Nope, nothing. No customers on site still to this day. Their retail store is still closed. Not sure why they didn't try to reopen once the mandates allowed in Ohio.
I turned my 4 post monster lite into an 8 post. I moved from a basement gym to garage gym, so was able to use taller uprights. I have a 43" depth section, and 2 17" deep sections. I use one 17" section for isometrics with 2 pairs of pipe and pin safeties, then the rear 17" section for plate and chain storage. Overall foot print I think is 89" deep. I was able to order 9 foot monster lite uprights right off their website, but had to custom order the 17 inch deep crossmembers.
@Colin, when did you order the custom 17”? (Just for reference, as Brandon mentioned in other videos that Rogue is not really doing anything custom). And how much is a set of 17”? Thanks
@@ericpchao01 I ordered about 6 weeks ago. It's not custom, it's monster lite, and you can get a half rack with a 17" back section, or a conversion kit to turn your squat stand into a half rack. I just ordered them seperatley, I had to contact rogue to do it. They are $77cdn per pair.
@@zfortyounce I have an rml 390f...... So I had a little more creative solutions. They replied today and seemed more open. I'm waiting for them to get back with me.
I got the RM6 right off the bat and love it, but the space is a bit too ridiculous for me. EliteFTS (and maybe even Sorinex?) has a 6 post with 36" working space and a 18" storage space. I wish Rogue would offer a Monster rack with those measurements because that's a perfect setup IMO.
Can confirm, Rogue is being selective on custom orders at this time as I called them to investigate getting the stainless steel RM-6 at 90” instead of 100”, and they said normally they would do that, but not right now. 😒
Looks awesome. I heavily debated doing this or what you previously had myself. Ended up going with your previous setup thinking a six post would look way to big in my two car garage. Also liked the idea of more useable space in the front for the jammer arms (or whatever rogue calls them). Definitely wish I had a huge basement to go this route though, jealous. I Had a off topic question for you though if you don't mind sparing the time to answer. I'm pretty interested in those strength co plates you have. I was wondering if that one inch lip is sufficient for getting the plates off the tree one handed and then transfered to two? I really don't want to have to use two hands to get a plate off the bottom of the tree. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks for your work!
I'm looking to invest in the BoS 6-post manticore rack with 30" depth and not sure about 17" or 24" for the back 2 uprights. I know you recommended 16" but do you feel that's still enough room to bench or squat facing inside the rack? Will the plates interfere with each other? Thanks.
I think it might depend on how much clearance your bench needs and how you set up your weight pins. Should be fine. If I recall I did a video benching in my RM3 with plates on the back.
Kind of but I'm not sure why TBH. It looks cool but I think I would hate it in reality with things connected to the side. Don't really see the purpose.
@@BasementBrandon I notice a lot of people with 6 post racks don't actually use the inside of the 2nd set of uprights, other than for storage. Seems to be a waste. If only used for storage, they may as well make it look cool like the Monster Cave. Fair enough if you will actually be using the inside of the 2nd set of uprights. I also don't understand why people with 4 or 6 post racks like to use the outside of the rack with spotter arms instead of inside (with strap safeties). It's fine if you have two stations setup, like squat inside and bench outside, but I'm not convinced everyone actually utilises the insides of their racks. It's their equipment though I guess, so they can do whatever they like.
@@jrfty1 I find going out to the side actually gets in the way. If you use the rear uprights to do anything you don't have as much versatility. I also need the back depth for my bench prop/spotter deck, a 4 post wouldn't work.
Will titan expansion kit work with Rogue? Have any extra pull up bar just need uprights and bottom and too crossmembers. Would be half price of rogue .
Great video, this really answered a lot of questions I had. Was wondering if you have played around with moving the rear two posts 90 degrees (clockwise and counterclockwise, right and left respectively) to reduce depth but maintain that storage space? I've seen pictures where it's done, but wasn't sure if it could be done with this setup based on bolt placement?
Did the same with my RM-3 recently. One difference is that I used the Rep 16 inch crossmembers in the rear to save space. Believe it or not, 8 inches can make a big difference.
I thought about that, but my concern was the top crossmembers wouldn't match up as they use different looks, and that the white finish would differ too much.
@@leonardofelan2438 Yes. The top one is mounted a little lower than the adjacent /parallel 30 inch crossmember. Not the most visually pleasing look, but, it is functional. I’m in the same position as you with space in a bedroom. I’ll post a quick vid tomorrow with how it looks.
@@DanesinTexas still better than what Sorinex calls a website. Atleast I can click and buy if I want standard items. I kinda wonder if I can add a back rack to my Fortis Rack. It might be difficult because the side panels are welded not bolt together. A drop in Rhino would be just fantastic. Might have to check my finances after income tax time.
@@bmstylee yea sorinex is way off with their site. Rogue will hopefully add more a la carte offerings once their orders call down from the COVID-mania 🤞🤞🤞
@@DanesinTexas I actually just emailed Rogue to see if it's even possible to do with my rack. If it works I might pull the trigger and make it a 6 post.
Looks awesome. Wish my play area was that big. Are the bolts for the middle post the longer ones (5") or standard? Aside from storage for plates, bars, accessories, are there functional attachments that can be added to the back? IMO - a bit much to pay for storage options.
Rogue just launched RML590C today, pretty much this idea but of Monster Lite version only. I like your naming of RM5 and am wondering if they’ll just take the same for Monster version.
Good stuff Mr Campbell! Do you have any idea of alternative plate storage pins for the Monster rack? Here in Europe Rogue only offers the somewhat pricy option that you went for, unfortunately not the budget version you got in the US...
@@merriamep Email rep. The 16 inch metallic black I purchased for a similar conversion was listed as OOS on the site, but, was was nevertheless in-stock. They can also tell you when the next shipment may be coming in.
Very nice. So technically it's an RM-5, one of the kind, something Rogue doesn't even offer. I agree, 24" for storage is too much and 16" would be so much better.
That the monster hip thruster bench there in the back? Curious--how do you plan to use it? I've always been curious but wondered if the uprights would get in the way of any actual barbell hip thrust / barbell split squat work. Do you have enough depth with 24" to use it in there? Excited to see your Single Stack from Prime, by the way. I've been debating between that and just doing a Lat Pulldown/Low Row from Sorinex. Prefer the design of Sorinex (hate that Prime doesn't have side holes), but the Prime unit looks really good for the utility.
I made mine 16in in the back by buying 16in crossmembers from rep fitness because Rogue didn’t have them. The rear doesn’t match exactly it one hole space off
I just got the RM4 and would love the extra 2 uprights just to store weights on. Why did you install the nameplates on front? I have the trolley arms and wouldn’t want to cover those holes. Great video. Ty.
Mostly b/c that's where they have them in all the promo pics rogue uses. I'll prob end up taking them off completely at some point, I just have been lazy and haven't had a reason to move those bolts.
Hey, brandon. After this setup, what was the total footprint of this setup? Im most likely going with this setup for my garage as well. I have a Rogue echo rack that's 93 inches tall and 47x47.
After watching your video and of others I ended up buying an RM4 and very happy. I do lift inside and outside of my rack. So the RM6 is mostly for storage purposes? I was planning of maybe converting my RM4 to an RM6 (30" or 43" crossmembers) to have two places to lift and have all setup for convivence, but debating if is worth it. I don't need it for storage I have a dedicated place already. Converting is not that expensive after getting a quote from Rogue. What are your thoughts?
Really depends. Could put a Rhino in there, or open up more spots for training. I've actually not got some shelves for bumpers/kettlebells and chains on the back.
Brandon, awesome video and was thinking about doing this myself. Ordered an RM-3 60 days ago and it’s finally enroute. I’ve been worrying that it won’t be deep enough and I should have went to an RM-4. Will Rogue sell crossmembers to make that happen? Or maybe I should just do this. Sorry if you already covered this in another video.
Brandon - thanks for the quality content! Question - is it possible to order the 16” cross members for the rear from Rep and use them on the monster? Or do they not fit ? I assume the color might be an issue as well
They should, but not sure if you're going to run into alignment issues if you're using Rogue on the lifting section. You may also see some color issues as you mentioned.
Great videos! Debating between the RM-4 and RM-3, sounds like in your opinion the RM-3 would be more than enough space for squats is that right? Any Olympic lifts would be done outside of the rack anyway and not too concerned about the storage pegs getting in the way as I'll probably store plates elsewhere.
Hey Brandon, really need your help here (I dm-ed you on IG too). Thinking about marrying the REP uprights as storage posts to the RM-3 but not sure if they will exactly line up right.. you’re literally like the only guy that has both racks in one place!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@gfamania haha I bought the full rack from rep anyhow, because I love the narrower gap between the uprights for REP. So that there’s less chances I’ll clip my barbell when racking etc; hope that helps. And rep is a lot cheaper and great quality
I can get a RM6 in cerakote good condition locally for $3,000 You think it's a good buy? I currently have an EliteFTS "garage line" with weight storage so it's like a fake 6 post. I'm interested in the greater depth I have having to be so careful walking out my squats.
Gears are turning on how I might expand our 490 or squat stand to include a permanently mounted slinger. I better get out to the garage with a pencil and sketch book!
Converting rm4 to 6 after watching this. You think I could find that hardware for cheaper at local hardware store? Any cost saving tips regarding the conversion from your experience? Thanks in advance dude.
I’m curious on how you were planning on center mounting the Slinger, I just got an extra 43” crossbar for my RM6 to do something like that (was going to use the spud inc or custom pulley setup) because I disliked having the single pulley setup and having to step back and change the angle to not hit by the weights. Does that require an extra 24” piece to split the difference in that upper section to mount the slinger onto? One thing I liked about carabiner mounted pulleys was it could get out of the way when I’m benching / squatting, but not sure if you played around with that on your slinger spec.
I was going to put a 24" crossmember that connected the two beams between the middle and rear posts (it would actually be slightly off center). Maybe I'll do a quick video demonstrating.
Hey Brandon hope you are well. Looking to get a power rack and other stuff. Based on your videos the Rm3 looks good to me but have a few questions hopefully you can answer for me. Going to take advantage of $75 shipping *Do I have to bolt down? *Is it worth to go with rm6 for the storage or do the tree like you have? Seems like it is close to same price. *Would it work with the new mono lifts for squat and then sandwich jcups in there for bench setup all the time? (Yea I am lazy like that) Or is it overkill as I am planning to get a squat and Ohio power bar. Thanks in advance.
I would suggest bolting it down if you're not planning on adding stabilizing feet or rack storage. If you have the room and the desire, the 6 post gives a lot more versatility. You can always upgrade your RM3 to a 6 down the road if you want like I did. If I'm thinking what you're thinking, then yes.
Moving into a 400sq. ft garage gym from a 150 sq. ft basement gym with Infinity R3. Confused if I should go with RM4 or RM6. Lat pull standalone or attached to the RM4/RM6. FYI: I chest press outside with safeties and mostly squat outside although with RM4 I can do it inside easily. I am also going with the lever arms
I think a lot of that is going to be up to your own preferences. If it were me I'd prob go 6 post if you want plate storage and room for more accessories and stand alone pull down.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks Brandon for the quick revert! You and Coop are fundamental to home gym enthusiasts like me (FYI: I like you more :) ]. Thanks for inspiring and helping the community. Much love from Toronto.
I'm considering trying to expand my RML flat rack for storage purposes, but really have no idea how to go about it. Seems all the additional posts are built for non-flat footed racks? Also, like you mentioned in the video, I'd prefer to only have an 18in depth (or less) added to the rack. Do i just need to hop on the phone with Rogue and custom order? It seems that way
I’m looking to do a 6 either this way or via the RM-6. Any idea when the Slinger with Weight Stack is going to be released? Based on pics, it looks like you can place the weight stack in plate storage area and still use weight horns for plate storage.
I would guess in the next 4-5 weeks since they're selling it now with the monster cave. It's now also up on the slinger page itself (not cheap at like 1100), but says coming soon.
the crossmember is the same as an upright. Has mounting points all over. GIves me the opportunity to put any attachment on it (even a pull up bar). I also think it looks better lol.
@@nicolasbolland6570 Only selling it right now as a package with a slinger for like $1100 (not including the $350 seat and $ for the low row attachment. After shipping and tax you might as well just get the Titan selectorized which is better functionality anyways and would be cheaper. Even if they let me use my existing slinger, the cable is way too long for a 90" rack already, I wouldn't be able to sit on the seat an do lat pull downs b/c I'd have like a 1/2 ROM.
I have a RML-3 with 24 inches inside. I would love to upgrade but the old RML-3’s come with welded crossmembers. The crossmembers are welded to the uprights. Do you think there would still be a way to add in 30 inch crossmembers and two additional uprights for a six post in this situation?
Prob not without some modification. The big selling point of the welded versions were that they were cheaper than the bolt together RML 390, but the downside is limited upgradability.
Would you go SM-2 or RM-3 if bolting isn’t an option? I’ve never lifted over 450; and I’m never gonna compete in powerlifting because my leverages suck and my back isn’t what it used to be. M-3 is like 1600 with accessories I want and feet for stability; and SM-2 is like 1200 with the accessories I need.
So it depends. I would think the Ares would be the more ideal solution for cable movements b/c of the weight stack and less foot print, however I was not a big fan of the REP belt squat. The Rhino is the better belt squat, but integrating a slinger or top cable piece is not as clean as a solution.
Rogue has more in stock stuff in my experience. I ended up with as many rogue accessories as rep stuff. If I could do it over I’d do a rogue 6 post rack and I’d have all my accessories by now 😂
Ok so iam finally decided to buy a rogue rm3 2.0 to drop in my rhino:) I have many titan 5/8" attachments on my x-3 titan wall rack. I am dropping in my rhino into a monster rogue rm-3 monster rack 2.0 and was wondering if I is a good idea to buy the 5/8" to 1" adapters to use them on the rogue rack if tbey fit??? or will it be better to buy rogue attachments instead of adapters??? Just trying to save some money. The titan attachments fit my rhino uprights. The short rhino uprights are the same as the rm-3 monster 2.0 uprights correct???
Wouldn’t a titan series extension kit be cheaper and have the same results? That’s the route I’m looking at for my RM3 for 500~$ shipped. Should I spend the extra money?
Curious but what was the reason not to get a drop in rhino? I figure if you put a shackle on the middle cross member you can attach a pulley to it so you can get lat pull down and tricep extension options?
Hi Brandon…. Me again 😎 Why do you say 43” is too big? I plan to get jammer arms and I don’t want to bolt the rack down, I would prefer to use the, inside the rack for stability and to use flip down safeties to rest the arms on. I’m leaning 43” for this reason. Also do you know if a Stringer weight stack can be installed in the back 24” weight storage area? I would have access to the back and front of my rack. Thank you
I just find there's nothing you can do in a 43" rack that you can't do in a 30" one. If you're looking for bigger footprint just for stability that's another topic to me. However a 43" rack could still be unstable if using spotter arms on the outside and failing a heavy enough lift. For your slinger question, you can install it in the rear but the slinger would also have to face the rear as there's no current solution rogue sells to lift in the front. You may be able to make something using a longer cable and more pulleys, but most won't want to DIY.
Thanks again! It's going to be near the center of my garage so I will have access to the rear.... I am going to get the Surplus strength lat and low for now and then maybe add a slinger weight stack later. I want to find one locally to try before I buy it though.
I have always thought about adding plate storage to my rack but have wanted keep the footprint as small as possible. Currently, adding plate storage (going from 4 post uprights to 6), would add 19.5”. Would you say the minimum depth required for plate storage would be 16.5”, or could you go even less?
Currently have an SML-2C in red that I got during COVID. I know there’s a conversion to flat footed power rack. But is there a way rouge would make a custom conversion order in red? is that something they did pre COVID?
@@BasementBrandon sorry was referring to your rack. About 53 in wide and 70 in long after the conversion? I think the stock rm6 will be a little to long for my space
@@BasementBrandon thanks Brandon. Heard you say that you were thinking about the rhino belt squat before getting the prime unit in your slinger video. Thoughts between that or adding a weight stack in the center rear portion of the power rack by adding additional xmembers?
What are your thoughts on the prime FT, versus others like the cyber bravo ft or the free motion cable cross etc? A lot of “used” cybex and free motion out there in the $2500-3500 range. Is primes new technology and design way better than the alternatives?
