Would you say the n zyme engine can faithfully reproduce variety of fm type tones? How do you like the 16 step wavetable creation on it, or is it more like wave shaping?
I've saved money to buy the Fantom, but I can't find any sound quality difference with older Rolands. It's like the same thing all over again. Patches rely heavily on effects (particularly delays and reverbs), so it's like the same waveform or pcm is used dozens of times but with varying types of effects.
Eventually I found a good deal and bought it. I had sold all my Roland gears years ago, so all in all, it adds something new to my setup. Mind you, if you already have a a Roland synth, it may not be really a sonic contribution. It's a very fun and easy to use synth. It's for creating digital sounds mainly, and of course it can produce the recognizable sweet sounds from the 80's and 90'2. I think it's a great complement for someone who already has a Nautilus/kronos or Montage/MODX. Honestly, this synth sounds way better in person than through YT, don't know why. For acoustic sounds a Korg or Yamaha would serve you best, although I have already created some very nice sounding orchestral scenes (combis in Korg terms).
- Totally agree with you, complexity in electronic sounds doesn't necessarily equal better sounds or tunes, it's one of the reasons I can listen to Boards of Canada but not Autechre.
Great demo , Seems like really fantastic upgrade for the Fantom...well done Roland- just can’t understand why the gave it such an in unbelievably stupid name wtf? n/zyme like trying too hard “to get down with the young people”....is it supposed to clever?It’s moronic 😦
