Yeah, bought mine new in 2000 for 2400 guilders (fl.), sold it for 600 euro's in 2009 or so. Rebought a mint one for just 400 euro's just before the insane price bumps these last 2 years.
Picked one up back in October. One of the best gear purchases I've made. There's something about owning a piece of history, and the sound that got me into electronic music 10 years ago!
Thank you for reinforcing my love for this synth along with getting it repaired. Mine fell into the low voltage vol problem that occurs to most of them after 30 yrs. A simple 2 hr repair. Nice presentation!
I've had JP-8000 for six years. Five and a half I've been way too busy at work to play with it but man, your video did teach me more than any manual. Extremly well told and undersandable. Thank You Sir. 😎
Bought this from a friend in 2016 for $400 in pristine condition. Been my "mothership" synth ever since. The JP8000 can do just about anything you would want a great polysynth to do - and does it extremely well with a unique character. If you're only using it for the supersaw - which is indeed massive - you're doing it wrong. So much more to explore here ... Great for ambient + noise ;)
People on the Roland Cloud Facebook group are always asking for a ACB version of this synth. I had never really heard it or seen it used. I'm totally onboard with them now. Sounds really cool.
The Roland JP 8000 was called "The Son of the Jupiter" at that time. There is no doubt, that he had a major influence on the techno scene in the 90s. Personally, I had the JP 8000 and sold it back then. Years later, after realizing this bad failure , I bought the JP 8080. And I'll never give it up again. It is an important milestone in the history of electronic music. At this point, thank you very much for your great video about this wonderful synthesizer. If you have one, don't sell it! Many greetings from Cologne Andreas
I used to spend so much time as a teenager at Guitar Center messing with the JP-8000. Now, I'm the proud owner of a JP-8080, and I would never sell it. I wouldn't mind getting a Korg MS2000R to go with it some day.
Thanks to you I have learned how to use the motion control and realized that it is a really fantastic feature, like custom lfos simultaneously assigned to as many parameters as you want. And it's a part of the patch programming, whereas for a long time I was erroneously thinking that it was made for RPS patterns and I had not looked further into the issue in the big user manual because I don't use the RPS. On forums I have many times seen people complain that this synth had only one LFO, I think they have completely missed this point too !
this synth owns the rise and rise of electronic music to where it is today for mine - the upward curve and full crossover to mainstream occurred in 1996
There's a part of me that still says this is the last 'real synth' Roland's made in the past 25 years or so. I know they've made others since then, but there's something 'banging' IMHO they've never replicated quite such since then.
Hi Nutrix, that intro sound of the jp8000 gives me back memories. A trip to 97. My band mate had one and I remember that arpeggio. We were learning and we didn't know about step sequencing or didn't have a proper sequencer like Atari St
Your videos are excelent. I just boght a jp8000 and starting to go through this incredible synth. Thank you so much. If you still have it, make more videos.
That PERF 11 Chariots is a must :) . Great video. The only con about the JP is the need of servicing due to leaking electrolytic capacitors on the main board (best to do prior to leaking, as maintenance). Best. DX5
@@kylekeller7577 I had it for 15 years. I'm just looking for some change. I have not really use it for almost 2 years. So it's going to finance a new synth.
@@Nu-trix Has yours sold yet? Any idea what you have picked to replace it or are you going different direction?. I have a combo organ and Korg Micro X thats a 25 key badass lil monster available, lol
Great video, Nu-trix! I was immediately in love when I played on the JP-8000 in the music store back in the nineties (I thought it was 1997 or 1998). I’m a Roland fan but I think that even non Roland fans admit it was revolutionary in lots of ways. The closest thing to the JP-8000 I have today is Sunrizer synth on the iPad. It’s a very good emulation of the almighty Roland supersaw synthesizer. Unfortunately, I don’t own the original hardware anymore 😞
@@robertsteinberger5667 Thank you for your reply. I couldn’t agree more. It has loads of presets and features and I can vow for the psychological connection.
@@emiel333 I just wonder what kind of hardware synth would you say is supplementary, one that does something that the sunrizer cant do. I wonder if I buy a minilogue or a SH 101, or a deepmind there might be many sounds of which I will think: I already have that sound in sunrizer.....
I wanted a JP8080, but just didn't have the money at the time. Later I looked for a used one, but were too expensive for the age. After 15 years or so of patience, I bought a Roland Gaia SH01 brand new and was glad I waited, the Gaia is a monster synth compared to the JP's. The Gaia is now my top pick and favorite poly digital of all time.
I fell in love with the JP-8000 when I was a teenager. We would go to Guitar Center and I would play it for hours. I'm going on 40 and I finally own a JP-8080, and I love it so much!
This video is great and now I can get more detail when programming sound. This was the best xmas present! ;) Thank you so very much! Also in your opinion, which is the best Rompler to pair with the JP?
Question ? I've had my jp 8000 for 3 years now I just took it out of the closet and Wow it is an amazing synth but my question is?? how to make performance patches from the user ones and so forth and save them as preference patches
Really great video on the Roland JP8000 loved it. Can you please explain how to set up the ARP in the Roland JP8080 to trigger it from a DAW? I can get it to work with the Roland JP8000 using my DAW, but the set up menu is slightly different in the JP8080 and the manual doesn’t cover it. Also, I have a Roland JV2080 and would find it extremely useful if you did a video on it. You need to page dive a lot in the JV2080 and any advice and hints and tips would be great! Thanks in advance.
A somewhat clumsy solution is to record the Arp patterns on a midi track in your DAW. You would have to change the notes yourself everytime but at least you'll have the pattern. I did this just to have an analyzing look at what Roland programmed.
please make a 3 hour video! i wanna know what else is hidden in the menu screen. also does the dual mode basically double the osc to 4 with 2 on upper and lower? thanks!
Hi Marcus, I have sold my JP-8000. In dual mode you are playing the upper and lower simultaneously. In the menu you can decide how many voices are assigned to each patch (lower and Upper). A couple options here : (lower 2 voices : Upper 6 voices, Lower 4 voices : upper 4 voices, Lower 6 voices : upper 2 voices)
@@Nu-trix well the problem im having is i have a jp8080 and when i connect it to my daw set up it plays another midi instrament as well as its dedicated chanel ive tried setting upper and lower and the midi all to the same channel and it still plays another instrament as well also if i do use the dedicated midi chanels it plays i cant stop the notes from going off and also if it dose play it crashes my cuebase ,im using cuebase 5.1.0 i7 16ram machine
