can i assign effects to individual drum sounds? e.g. can i add a delay to just my handclap but not the snare? Thanks for the tutorials! Very helpful!

I've only had this for a week but I'd say that it's excellent! It's a lot of fun to use and can produce good results but you need to ignore the user manual because it gets a lot of things wrong. Watch the video tutorial "Owner's Manual" here on youtube and it tells you the correct way to do things. It can't compete with a DAW and controllers obviously but sometimes I want to get away from my laptop and have a new toy to play with that I can make music with. I don't make dance music, I make industrial metal and I find there's a lot of good sounds on this to use for any style of music you want to make. Obviously you need to add your own guitars if you want them, but as far as the drums, electronic bass and synths go, this is cool. Check it out!

Hi. I'm trying to wire it in to my setup where I've got beatstep pro as a controller for other devices. It seems the MC303 listens to all midi channels. How do I stop transmitting midi to it? Is there any way? Can't find online. Thanks in advance

Great tutorial! Thanks for taking the time to do this. I do have a question. I've managed to record melodies easily enough, but i'm finding erasing a mistake impossible without just erasing the entire pattern. i see several "delete" and "erase" words under buttons but not sure the right combination to kill a bad pass.. i've tried various button mashing and none of it seems to do anything.. figured i could stumble onto how it's done but alas.. no luck.

Watch the longer Roland MC 303 Video Owners Manual here on RU-vid, there's a couple of different ways. If you want to just delete certain notes within the bass pattern you can do it by holding Erase and Record over the notes you want deleted as you are playing. If you want to delete the whole bassline but you want to keep the drums and synths for example, then hold Shift, press Delete, select the location of the bassline, R1 for example and then press Enter.

ok awesome yea that makes "sense" :) definitely not the most straight forward way to do it.. silly to have to enter an "erase" mode for one specific track.. you'd think you could just hold shif+erase and the current track would delete.. not have to then hold record, but hey it works and i thank you! :)

You are welcome. I've only had it for about a week and used it a few times so far but I really like it a lot. It's not the most straight-forward functionality wise - it seems we have to press too many buttons to do simple functions and the actual manual gets a lot of things wrong - the video manual here on youtube really answered a lot of questions I had and now it's just remembering. One thing I would especially change about it is I wish that the sequencer worked the same for the bass and synth parts as it does for the drums - so you can lay the notes you want along the moving track if that makes sense, rather than the way they do it but I'm getting used to it. I believe this was the very first Groovebox and that they improved a lot of these things with the MC 505 and MC 909. I look forward to trying them at some point.

Create an empy pattern. Make a one Bar 4/4 Beat. Use rhythm set d02 and put in a simple 4 beats kick drum pattern with the "909 bd 8" (octave -2, Key No 1). Play the pattern and watch your level meter. The kick drum sound is boosted for a few db on every first beat of the pattern, like a metronome. If you make longer patterns,the loudness accent on the first note is still there, even in song mode. The only solution to this is to program the pattern shifted,so that the kickdrum is on the actual offbeat. Any other solution to this?

I am losing my mind, how do i edit my step sequence on the second measure. Every video on here just does it for one bar. So frustrating.

You have to record that first measure then copy and paste it to the measure number you want it to be on. A bit tedious, and backward thinking, but it's how I got it to work.
