Don’t know if you’ve found it already but to edit FX you need to go to part parameter. From there you can edit volume, pan, reverb send and fx routing. If the part is not routed to any FX you will not hear any changes while moving FX faders. It has nothing to do with patch protection. This machine is quite alright but editing in it is pain in the ass. There is an edit software for MC 808 but it doesn’t work with modern day computers and even if it would I see it as a serious workflow killer from what I saw on internet (it’s really slow) that’s why 909 or 505 are considered superior by many.

I am wondering if all parameters are allowed to be modified or edited with this process, deleting the lock, I would like to Know if the wave table can be changed or even selected from user samples, it is possible use samples as wavetable?. And how deep is possible to diving in sounds editing without the software. Any video or specific page in the manual? mc909 is a monster machine, great in functionalities and great in size, maybe too big. I've read mc505 has serious bugs, like the sound stop and the end of each sequence cycle. Although they have enough knobs and slider, not like mc808.
@@modulartheory unfortunately not. You can’t edit much besides the stuff that’s on the sliders. You can’t pick and change wave shapes of a preset from the hardware and that kind of kills it as you have to rely only on modifying the presets that are already there to get your sound. I went as far as reading sysex chart to get the address for wave change but that was way over my head and I gave up. I also have 505 and it is way better to program your own patches. Haven’t noticed any bugs with it. I think there is a bug with 808 where when you change patterns it cuts out the fx like delay or something but I rather use it as a ext synth and send all my midi messages from MPC so no problem for me
@@rabbisnail thanks it is a pity for this machine actually because it has all the ingredients to be so big 4osc, 2 Lfo per osc, and so on. But unfortunately the number of control is shame . I was thinking to buy one for a good price, but I can't use the software nowadays and even I don't feel comfortable doing that when I might work with a DAW with more flexibility. I mean I like devices in order to Scape from screens. Why do you program pattern in MPC to use it on Mc808... The specs on the machine are really great, but the lack of GM is a bit of a disappoint to me honestly. I'd really enjoy have a sound canvas I think for more of those all too important standard general composition sounds that I feel like the MC-808 has too few of or at least ones that really actually appropriately sound the part. Still really like the synth, but it's defiantly a bit of a mixed bag though I still can't see why the MC-909 is so much more highly appreciated as I see the MC-808 is mostly superior tech especially paired with other hardware to better assist in controlling it's wealth of features.
@@1heUndertaker It's got quite a few positive aspects. I don't find it's negative points too big a issue overall. Honestly the lack lack of GM is one of the things I consider most insufferable with it, but it samples and you can use the mix inputs with other synths so not a major problem. I actually want to muck around with the software editor to try my hand at some custom templates. I'm thinking you might be able to come quite close to a GM sound set preset template if you do so among other things that editor has tons of flexibility to play with. You could have a template just setup with some of the 303 acid sounds in it alone with lots of subtle variations to it. It's a very flexible synth engine inside of it. It's based on the Fantom synthesis engine.
