That was a great video, Ed. Ive been sort of broken hearted because I just can't swing the coins for the Roland RD-2000 but this machine looks like it will do everything I need to do with the group I'm playing with. We need a lot of songs with piano and strings layered together and your excellent explanation I think has given me what I need to know. BTW, In the 7 minutes and 14 seconds of video here, you injected the phrase, "Go Ahead" some 25 times. "Let's go ahead and use the increment buttons" .... "let's go ahead and scroll...yada yada." DUDE, you need to drop "go ahead" from your vocabulary. LOL
Hey Ed, thanks for the explanation but I love how Roland just broke the RD series, it used to be as simple as pressing your main category (Sound) and then pressing the secondary button while holding the primary. Layer done!!!! If you need some tweaking press the select layer button and then tweak it as much as you want! Why? A great keyboard is broken from the factory, and the best part, it would be easy to fix on firmware and give the old people that have been playing and buying Roland's pianos the opportunity to choose how to go about their workflow. I've played Roland RD series since the 500 series and this shit was sorted out a looooooooooong tiiiiimeeee aaaaagooooooooo. Unbelievable. I guess from now on Yamaha CP/YC or Kawai MP would be my next stage piano.
So we can indeed layer three tones on top of each other instead of being limited by the zones (UP1, UP2, LOW) that seem to only allow for the layering of two tones (UP1 and UP2)?
Currently trying out the RD88. I do notice that when I do the dual layer (say Piano and a Pad), that sometimes when I even turn the dual off or the volume down on the pad that it keeps playing. Is that a glitch in the keyboard?
This is truly amazing i love the rd88 but i have a question will the Roland Juno DS have future updates? Like newer piano sounds, the strings, choirs, new vocoder sounds, expansions and etc.?
So is it safe to say that once a dual layer is saved (written) as a scene, it can be then saved as a scene in the favorite bank, yes? But once saved, you lose the ability to customize the volume of each individual layer, correct? Is there a way to save a dual scene in the favorite bank that would allow you to continuity customize the volume of each layer during a performance? (Ie bring strings up or turn down/off mid performance? )
Hello, yes you can save the Scene to your Favorites, but I you do not actually lose the ability to customize the volume of each layer. You will still have the ability to to customer or edit Layers as you need during a performance. By saving the Scene, you will always the same starting point for the Layer volumes that you saved. however, if you find that you prefer a new set of volumes you can always overwrite the Scene with the new adjusted volumes.
What is REALLY missing here is how do you create a Dual layer with one internal sound and one external sound from an external sound source? What is really ticking me off is there is nothing as far as information on using an external midi sound . RRrrrrrrrr, I am so so disappointed in Roland selling a product like the RD88 with such a bad owners manual !
