Very good video. I am working on a 201 right now in my shop. I ordered a full rebuild kit from AUS. It needs caps and wheels. parts should be in soon. I am not quite as good shape as yours but I wish I was able to source new record/ playback heads.

Yes, tough to find heads but they are out there. Try old audio repair shops.

Wanted to quickly say thank you for showing how you addressed this issue! I recently bought am re150 in great condition, but it has this exact issue. I could see that the bracket needed tension but wasn't sure what the mechanics of the whole operation were supposed to be as this is my first tape echo, and didn't want to just start randomly removing nuts/screws etc.... your fix makes total sense and will take the guessing game out when I have time to open this up. Thank you!

Hey Mark, First off. Your videos are kick @ss. I love the stories, history lessons and incredibly helpful videos! I do have a roland re 150 and it has worked beautifully until about last month. looked like the pinch wheel seized rock solid and the motor shaft just was spinning with no tape movement. So I powered it down cleaned like hell the pinch wheel, and now it spins clear and fine but the motor seems start normally and then just slows down until a complete freeze within 1 minute. Yikes, Any advice would be amazing! cheers keep the videos rolling !!!

Sorry, I missed this question until today. You probably have it figured out by now. But sometimes some electrical cleaner down the motor shaft followed by some household oil can bring back a tired motor, if that is the problem. The armature can get dirty over time.

Hey Mark, love the channel! Working on an RE-150 now. I'm only getting one repeat in all modes, and only hearing the repeats from the "Echo" output, not hearing them on the direct out. All the caps are black sanyo branded caps, not the purple ones from your videos. Could they possibly be original caps? A few of the larger ones are glued on with what appears to be a factory job. Should I do a cap job on it and see if that brings the oscillating repeats back? Cheers from Portland, Oregon!

I talked to Brandon and it turned out to just be dirty heads. Try everything else before caps. These are often just in need of a good cleaning.

Hi! What a luck I found your channel..I own a RE 150, bought it new about 1980 it has been unused for 20 years.. Questions: where to get new tape? How to make own felt or where to get it , not green.. for the tapecleaners.. where to put lubricant for the motor, it will not go down in speed as it used to do , it is now between half of lowest setting and full speed..Where to get a new lamp for the VU meter ?I am living in Sweden/ Stockholm. Many questions.. if I can reach you by mail or something I would appriciate../ Micke S.

Hi Mikael, I make tapes from new/old 8 tracks. You can make loops of any size but if you search for replacement Space echo tapes you can find them. Echofix is a company from Australia I think. I would try cleaning your speed potentiometer and see if that helps your speed. You should be able to find felt at a fabric store. I ordered lamps from a hobby shop. They are the same size as miniature train sets. Put a drop of oil right at the base of the motor by the pinch wheel to lubricate. Good luck
