It is a pity that Roland no longer produces newer versions of this device. because in my opinion one of the best guitar processors of this company.I've been using this processor for 12 years. And it still great sounds..

For sure, I wish Roland had kept the VG-99 and just updated the processor and software

@@WayneJoness everytime I think about how Roland abandoned this product and the GR-55, I'm reminded of the fact that they continue to invest in their V-Accordion line. Yes, somebody has to capture that elusive EDM polka market. That damn thing lists for $7800! Now, you can get it on the street for a cool $5500. Just think, you can trade in an old Camry, put a little money with it, and buy that dream accordion. Bitter, party of me, my table is now available.;)

Keep the VG-99 stuff coming. I bought my VG-99 when it first came out over 12 years ago. I installed the gk3 pickup but it did not work. So my VG-99 sat for over a decade. Just bought a new roland pickup and everything is working now. I have modified two Roland kc-500s with jbl 15 inch guitar speakers and put in a very beefy tweeder in the cab. Also, have the Roland kbw1 bass crossover speakers as well. This setup is sounding fantastic. At the same time with my Fractal Audio fx III and the 4 cable method to my Cornford MKii 50 from the same guitar. The sounds are unbelievable.

The VG-99 is seriously powerful. I keep my unit next to my DAW just for various effects at time. You can do so much with it, and I love the user interface.

(tl;dr version)-If I am only going to use the modeling side of my gr-55 for acoustics/electrics/basses, would replacing my gr-55 with a VG-99 make a lot of sonic difference? Wayne, I come seeking counsel from a tone chaperone like yourself. Here is my story. I've been using Roland guitar synths starting with the GR-33 back in 2000 to cover synth pads/horns/etc in a 4 piece with no keyboard player. I migrated to doing a one man live loop show, and in theory, the GR-55s all in one thing should have been perfect. I needed a bass sound. The gr-33's bass sound didn't cut it, but the GR-55 had a bass model was perfect. I use the acoustic/bass/electric models constantly, but getting the synths to track is a nightmare. I have an old Godin with an LR Baggs 13 pin and a new Godin XTSA with the RMC piezo and with the synths they are almost unusable. I'm real close to buying a Fishman Triple Play wireless for my synth sounds. However, I was also thinking about picking up a VG-99 if I could find a deal on it. Here is my question for you. I've heard that the GR-55 basically has one channel of the VG-99. How would you compare the guitar sounds of the VG-99 to the GR-55. Is it literally just as simple as it has half the processing power of the VG-99, or are there some differences in the tones? I still need the modeled basses and the acoustics, and I have two guitars with built-in 13 pin pickups. I've seen demos where all the GR-55 patches sound amazing. There are some tones I love, but I hear digital artifacts in the Strat model, and the Tele model feeds back when you give it some gas. If the VG-99 fixes those problems, my search for one of these things would intensify. You cover some very niche topics but fortunately, I'm smack dab in the middle of that niche. Thank you!

I was not able to find any difference when I A:B the synths, I have a video comparing the acoustic guitars and I could not find a difference. The VG-99 is cool because, yes, you get two channels, but it does not fix any of the little quirks and glitches.
