Working with a Rolex Authorized Dealer I was able to obtain an Explorer II watch in less than 7 months with no purchase history. This is the experience I had working with the Rolex AD and six tips that I think helped me secure an Explorer II watch.

Everyone give your AD's a chance. I was offered an LV Sub in exactly two weeks after my first visit at the AD in Tulsa. It was a fantastic experience. What I did: Be sincere, dress respectfully, let them know you'll be a long term customer, ask them about their business- many are family owned jewelers, wear a watch you love and talk about it (preferably a Rolex), let them know why you want the model you want, send a quick thank you email a few days after going in, be cool to them and be patient... I didn't need to be patient but I was prepared to do so : ) . If you get a bad vibe, try again somewhere else or with another sales associate, preferably the store manager. Also, don't blame Rolex for a bad AD, Rolex is trying to get rid of bad AD's. That's like blaming a car brand for a rude salesman at a dealership.

Nice video, I want to add and you are 100% accurate with your suggestions, I notice that sales rep do cater to certain people like loyal buyers especial the ones who go for a certain reference. Some dealers try to get me to buy another reference that I really didn't want. In NYC the wait is long and if your relationship ain't in good standing your out of luck.

A 100%, I was lucky of finding a great AD. Los Angeles ADs had a lot longer wait, or that is what they told me. Cheers

One the list for an Exp 2 as well. Got on the list 2-3 months ago. I'm in no rush. I try to pick up watches that have a connection in theme to aspects of my life, in addition to attraction to the design. Like you, I'm a landscape photographer and the Exp 2 made sense in theme, but also in design. I'm a sucker for a white dial, and especially if it's matte. I'll get the call eventually, but I'm in no rush. Enjoy!

I got two rolex with no buying exp within just a couple of months. I suggest going to a local family run ad. They will likey sell you one with one being local to them they may see one as a possible repeat customer. When you go for another Rolex wear the one you have bought from them in the past that should help to. As they see you bought the watch because you love the brand and didn't just flip it.

Thanks for the comment, Yeah you just never know. Everyone has a different story. I tried going to a family run AD, but they wouldn't give me the time of day until I had spent a certain amount in their store on other items. After I spent that amount I would be able to get on their Rolex waiting list. Cheers

This worked for me as well. I've been on the WOS list for over 7 months now. I even made 3 return visits. The family owned AD got me my watch in 5 months 3 weeks. I made 3 return visits there as well. I too had no purchase history.

I live in France and have tried the AD in Bordeaux several times. Always nice and polite on my part and reciprocated by him. But even though I have put it in writing and handed the request to him personally, as well as verbal requests, I have never heard another thing. Nothing in nearly three years. Waste of time. Now I have switched to Tudor and have a great relationship with them and get exactly what I want each time in under 6 weeks, usually 2-3 weeks. I still want a Rolly but cannot stand the lack of supply and the AD game you need to play. Bastards one and all.

Yeah people's experiences with getting Rolex at retail from an AD is still pretty much down to luck. The ones that get called up in a few weeks/months with no prior purchase history is definitely in the minority. Most people including me have been in the waitlist for more than 12 months and still nothing. It'd be interesting to see what'll happen to the waitlist when the economy is in a recession.

On Paul Thorpe's channel he was informed that here in England, Rolex has stopped AD's selling more than three watches to the same person in a 12 month period to stop the same old people buying 13 watches a year and flipping them.

I have bought 5 Rolex pieces from my AD in the last 2 years, 2 of those have been hot models (oyster perpetual 41 coral red and finally my submariner date that I just got), from this video what I find important is to establish a relationship with only one representative, express your interest and make sure they understand that you are not a flipper and that you want to be a repeat customer with them for any other jewelry related purchase, obviously you will have to wait longer for hotter pieces like this explorer II or some datejust configurations, submariners, gmt master, Daytona and sky dwellers will not be sold without purchase history, if you are getting married and need to buy a ring this is by far your best bet to get a professional model assigned but you need to ask for guarantee from the get go and tell them the you will buy the ring if you get X watch assigned, other than that is just patience and be 100% ready when they call because if you express interest and then decline a piece when they get it for you they will take notice.

Not sure I understand why that person tore your info up? Do they not want a sale? Did they think you were just some guy off the street and were just waisting their time? I mean I don’t want a Rolex but I could afford one easily if I wanted to. Do I look like a “normal” Rolex wearer? Probably not but it’s just buying a watch not something life or death….
@cheynewalls
@cheynewalls 2 года назад
Its just a crazy market. I think its one of those things that they knew I wasn't going to spend 10s of thousands of dollars in their store, so why waste the time on me. Save the watches for those that will buy 10s of thousands.

Easy, wait 2yrs and 9 months then get the call. However, Rolex is currently disenfranchising all small independent ADs across the world therefore you will not get a sports model anytime soon; also all waiting lists are now closed or scrapped.

Hi Steve, it is difference for every AD, it took me just over 6 months of waiting for my Explorer II and I was back at my AD yesterday for an ETA on a steel Sea-Dweller. They told me a month or two.

Why do you keep saying “obtain”? You BOUGHT it. Did you go into the store and just grab it? No. I assume you paid for it. When you go grocery shopping do you say you “obtained” food? No. Also, pronouncing it “obtainnnnnn” sounds ridiculously pretentious.

Even if you have the money for a watch you like they will not sell it to you, sounds crazy but I had to learn that myself when I wanted one back in 2020, you either have to play their game or buy the watch you want in the secondary market with a price over sticker, maybe 1-2k extra or maybe 5-10k depending on the model, I refuse to pay a dime more so I was just patient and played their game now I have great relationship with my AD and they sold me 5 pieces in the last 2 years.

I just can't win, people get upset when I say I bought it because it sounds like I just walked in and got it. Just trying to meet in the middle.
@steelsteez6118
@steelsteez6118 Год назад
I think he uses the word "obtain" because it is precisely the exact opposite of being able to walk into a grocery store and just "buy" any item off the shelf. You can't just walk into a Rolex AD and "buy" the watch. It usually involves building a relationship, possibly a purchase history, etc etc. Instead of wasting his breath saying all of this over and over, he uses a word like "obtain" to more or less summarize the following : "I went through the rigorous process of building a relationship and a purchase history with an AD in order to have the opportunity to purchase a Rolex". One word versus a bunch of words. He's simply trying to be efficient but I can understand that some people, such as yourself, need everything spelled out in crayons.
