Had my Jeweler engrave this on the inside the back of my Datejust with black diamond dial/Fluted ... If not (My Name) Watch is stolen Would never sell - Reward (My Number) (My Email) Guy got in my face, another guy pretended to break it up, watch smoothly taken off wrist. 3 days later a Jeweler called me and said "Saw the engraving inside the Rolex, was it stolen?" I said yes! And told him to call the cops, he did and I drove three cities over to get it back. He refused the reward.

I work as a cop in Beverly Hills, Ca. When I see men/women wearing high end watches, I always tell them to hide it, don't wear it in public anywhere. if I noticed it, think about who else might. When suspects steal these rolex watches, they go to the diamond district in LA and sell them. stay safe!

Simple truth - many grey dealers sell watches with no box and papers. Assuming the watch is not fake (and anyway, anyone who can fake a watch can fake box and papers), one HAS to wonder where exactly these watches are coming from! Sure, someone can purchase a BLRO/BLNR/PP Nautilus/APROO etc, and throw away/lose their papers. It is very possible. When I was moving house I almost lost my papers that way. So, it is possible. What is not possible however is the significant number of watches Grey dealers have that have no papers. That is just not mathematically possible. Simply not… …unless they are stolen. Which is why I always tell people that purchasing a stolen watch from a grey dealer is a big/bigger deal than even getting a fake watch.

Part of the reason I've started moving into some of the new mid-tier watches coming out from brands like Longines, Oris and Seiko/king seiko. There has been some real growth in the options and quality of this segment. I just don't feel comfortable wearing things like my Rolex anymore since it has tripled in value in five years; I'm not a "flexer" and it makes me self-conscious even without the security threat.

I ALWAYS wear a bandana “buff” around my wrist when I travel or when I don’t have long sleeves. My watch collections is for me, not to show off.

Another tip is to flip the watch on your wrist so the dial is facing your body.

Sad but real, the main problem I think is that the authorities are to soft when they catch them, strange to say but for me the most safest placed II have been was China I lived there and I was not afraid to wear Rolex or any watch daily base, go out in the evening take metro..... Once I was in the metro I was wearing my sea dweller I was with a colleague wearing a Daytona and there was another guy wearing a Patek without any problems. Sadly I don't do that in Europe now

Wearing my Seiko King Turtle or Tudor BB when going outside. And even with this watches you are lucky not to be robbed and not run over with a car or motorcycle. Has gotten crazy even in Germany.

I do understand that it makes „sense“ for watch thieves to steal Rolex, AP and Patek because these are relatively easy to cash in. But an orchestrated theft of an extremely limited edition Richard Mille watch? Where do these guys sell these watches?? The profit they make can only be the amount of money somebody is willing to pay for a stolen watch that this person will not even be able to show in public or sell on for its market value. Where do these watches go??

It's valuable that Delray Watches is bringing this topic up so people will hopefully exercise some caution. It's baffling how some commented they do not believe what you're warning. Click bait? Delray is a watch dealer. Its livelihood is selling some of these watch. Delray's inventory includes these high profile robbery targets. I don't see how someone would think this video is anything by genuine advice. But if people want to get violently robbed at gun point or by being run over by cars (There are surveillance videos capturing these), that's their prerogative. SMH.

Having several travel watches that doesn't look flashy is the best way to go. Shame the watches stay at home most of the times.

I don’t want to turn this into a political conversation, but we have a real problem with law enforcement, especially in our larger cities. When police officers can’t do their jobs for fear of retribution, we are headed for increasing crime. As far as insurance, I have all of my watches insured through Hodinkee who has a partnership with Chubb. Couldn’t be easier.

Rolex prices and availability are enablers

Good topic. Sad times one can’t even enjoy their hobby. Law makers should address these issues and pass stricter legislation. Otherwise it will only motivate criminals to escalate even further. This is also a valid point about gun ownership. I think criminals would be much more hesitant to take a risk if they knew people carry guns and any robbery attempt might end up messy.

It’s really sad that it’s gotten this bad and you have to second guess what watch to wear.

In the past it was obvious to avoir to wear a luxury watch in Brazil, or in other countries in South America. Now you have to avoid to wear a Rolex or any other luxury watch in London! It's probably safer to wear a Swatch or any other inexpensive watch in some cities!

I am very selective about what I wear, and when. I more often than not wear my 16610 sub on a Marine Nationale strap and when going into a crowded area roll my sleeves down to cover the watch. In my culture "flexing" isn't cool and I don't wear my luxury timepieces for anyone but myself. Like John says - dress em down and cover em up if you are in questionable public places. Cheers!

i wear my knife everywhere. you can see the clip on my pocket. i think a thief will see that and go for easier target. i also have my hand on it walking by people i have a feeling about. you need situational awareness too. i do that even wirh a sieko not just my rolex lol
