I think this is Rolex's finest sports watch! Watch my owner's review to find out why! and better still - it's available to us mere mortals from your AD!!
I just bought a new SD43 at the Rolex AD a couple months ago. I’ve had some used Rolex watches but this is my first time getting one brand new at the AD. It’s an outstanding watch and I only had to wait 6 weeks for it. 😊
I had originally been looking at getting a sub, but when I tried on the Sea-Dweller it just suited my 8.3 inch wrist so much better than the sub. I’m so glad I went with the SD43. I love how it doesn’t get the hype that the sub does. It’s fantastic!!
@@drdmouse I honestly could not believe it either. I think it comes down to me just being a nice, laid back guy (not to toot my own horn), about the exact opposite of the flexing ass-clowns on Instagram. They could tell I was an enthusiast and collector, and not a flipper. And I also credit the fact that the SD43 is nowhere near as "popular" as the Sub -- even though I consider it a better watch (for ME). Also I drove almost an hour out of my way to an area that is much less populated than the metropolitan area in which I live. And I probably had a little bit of luck on my side. But now that I have a "history" with them, I'm going to try for a yellow dial OP41 -- after I save up some cash.
@@TheRandomWatchDude I'm a diving instructor but I wouldn't ever need the SD43 because I gave up saturation diving (work, even then you don't use a watch for this kind of diving) when I left my 30s :) The Sub is a perfect watch, most people will say it's boring but there is a reason it hasn't changed much in 70 years.
Another very informative video. Beautiful watch! Keep up the good work. Got the call (on my birthday!) for the 116500 black dial Daytona. Picking it up on Friday! Really happy!
It funny because I went to the AD with my wife and beside I loved the SD43 more than a sub a was trying to save a little more money going for the sub and when I try the SD in front of of her she said “that’s the one for you and if you get the sub you will regret it, it suits you like a glove” so i got and men I love it
This was my fist luxury watch and is its my favorite in my collection, I wasn’t sure between the SD43 and the sub but once you see this watch in person the sub becomes boring, great video my friend
Absolutely love my 126600. For me.... the red print on the dial was the bonus! I waited almost a year for mine here in Canada. I am now saving for the 2 tone Sea Dweller.
Very lucky to have just purchased a pre owned Daytona, but must say the Sea Dweller looks an absolute stunning watch, the size is so impressive, and coupled with the black Matt face makes for a absolutely amazing piece. Fantastic video 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for this! Told an AD I was interested in this on 12/23 and picked it up today. 25 day turnaround. Most ADs (including this one initially) gave me a 2-8 month window. I had no purchase history. The price of this has fallen below retail on the secondary market, which I also think has cooled demand pretty dramatically.
Congratulations. Irrespective of the resale price, this is an awesome watch, and all the more sweet to get it from an AD! I'm sure it will give you a lot of pleasure.
I have both, the 43 is better. I wore the same SD from 2000 to 2019. In 19 I got the 43. On the rare occasion I wear the old one, not near as nice. Cheers
It is indeed a lovely watch. Even with my 6.5 girlie wrist! 😄During the week I go from wearing a 40 mm to a 44 mm Panerai. I would recommend anyone to actually go and try a larger size on or if you have the opportunity to be able to borrow a larger watch for a few days. I borrowed my father's 46 mm Navitimer. I put it on a brown leather stressed zulu strap and straightaway it felt comfortable and smaller on my wrist. In the end my father ended up giving me the watch as he said it looked better on me than him. 😄
That's a great story! You're totally right that the only way to really know is to go and try it on. Often it's the bracelet fit that makes all the difference
Given the size of the current Sub at 41, this 43 is no longer looking huge in terms of the size. Having own this model, I feel funny when I put on a smaller watch nowadays & always go back to wearing the SD43.
It's funny how you adapt to and normalise your watch size, and then when you put a larger or smaller one on, it feels weird! 2 days with a 36mm on, and the 43mm feels like a jumbo jet!
@@TheRandomWatchDude thought I’d check as you covered it on the card earlier in the video. Been buying Rolex for about 15 years+. The SD43 is my absolute favourite so far.
@capt3956 thanks for that. I don't go out of my way to display the serial, but I also don't know why, as I never heard of someone's specific watch being cloned. Anyway you know, this SD43 is a tremendous watch, and I reckon if you can pull it off, it's better than a Submariner
I've had mine for 4 years. Still my every day watch. I asked them to remove the extension the day I bought it. I wore it on a NATO strap until this year. My fault, but the lugs got damaged, and I had to get a new case. That hurt my wallet. If you replace the strap, make sure you have a strap that uses the end links. They protect the case! Love the watch. Fits an 8+ inch wrist beautifully.
You may say it’s unnecessary. I’ve got PPF strips on the clasp. I basically got extra pieces from my car wrap guy and cut them to size. It’s almost invisible and definitely prevents scratches
The Hour Glass give you the swing tag, whereas Partridge keep it. I dont know why they keep it. Personally i think as its part of the set they have no right to keep it. Thanks
Rolex knows the 3235 movement isn't a work of art, so naturally won't reveal it through a sapphire caseback. If you have seen the Rolex 3235 and Omega 8900 movement, you will know why. But I must agree that the SD43 is the best balance between the Submariner and the Deepsea. Great purchase!
SD43 is an “if you know, you know” piece from the Crown. I’d be willing to bet that it’ll be quite coveted in 20-30 years’ time by enthusiasts. Current size trends, and obsessions, have kept a lot of speculators away. Which is cool. Note: I like smaller watches too. Even 32mm diameter. Oh, and I understand that these watches are completely unnecessary and not “tools” anymore…..
I'm into chunky watches and this is my favorite Rolex but Rolex's are just too expensive and hard to get for me. I do have an OceanX homage or two for this watch but I'll never buy the real one.
It's such a pity that they are hard to get, I agree, and price-wise they are getting harder to justify too. If they go with another price increase in January, with the global economy slowing, they will become even more difficult to justify.
Sorry, I have never liked peanut butter. Not my jam, if you'll excuse the pun. However, I'm happy to make a video on how to make an amazing meal for 4, using just baked beans, pasta, and a tin of tuna 😋
The SD43 is the most perfect dive watch design from Rolex, especially the original first version. Too bad that it has the problematic 3235 movement. Stay away until Rolex has that fixed. Which it hasn’t yet even though it has been years.
Every now and then someone drops this comment about the 3235 movement, yet of the millions of watches out there with this movement in, it still seems like an old wives tale.
It’s not available at my AD in the UK. I’m a diving instructor and I just don’t understand why you would buy this watch unless the Sub is too small on your wrist. I do use a watch for diving when I’m either solo diving or diving with dive masters or instructors because for a 2 dive day a watch is very easy to use with a chart but most people buying this watch will never dive with it, it’s complete overkill.
Let's be honest, all dive watches are basically obsolete now, whether it's the Sub or the Deepsea. Your $200 Seiko is waterproof down to 200 meters, so that's got you covered as a diver. All luxury watches are just toys, for rich boys, so whether it's a Sub or a Seadweller or a Deepsea, they're all just vanity accessories
@@TheRandomWatchDude Speak for yourself, my sub has been down with me many times and the bezel was used for what it was designed for, a small white chart dangles off my BCD and it is very easy to check your decomp. There are 7 instructors in the shop I part-time at now and they all use watches when they are not teaching, computers make you lazy and 2 dive days are not complicated dives to work out. You clearly don't know that 20atm is not a diver's watch, if you don't believe me check it out yourself, 20atm is rated for snorkelling and nothing more, 30atm is the minimum requirement for a dive watch.
@@TheRandomWatchDude I've tried it, I used a watch as my backup, I won't name the brand I used but its name included the title "Pro Diver" After two of these watches I stopped buying "cheap" divers watches because they both succumbed to the 20-30 meters they were used at. I dived in Egypt at Christmas just gone and used my Sub, I had to teach the Egyptian instructor I was with how to do it, and he looked very awkward when he realised he should know this information, and that he should also carry a backup timepiece, I laughed it off. My watches are here to tell the time and perform well under the pressure of the task I am undertaking, I am not the only person who uses watches as they are supposed to be used, it's the pretenders out there who have tried to redefine these watches as fashion that have blurred the lines.
If you take word 'tool' quite literally then yes it is, but then again we could argue that all watches are obsolete as tools, since we now have phones in our back pockets.
Great thing about watches is you can have a great variance and wear them all for different occasions. I own a G-shock MTG-B1000 and wear it on vacations over-seas and while riding my motorcycle. I love that it's solar powered and syncs to my phone and I believe surrounding cell towers or GPS sats (don't quote me on that one). I never need to adjust the time on it...... ever! I also have this exact Rolex Sea Dweller and a Breitling Avenger 2 Seawolf (yellow dial). I wear these 2 watches to meetings or interviews or outings. I plan to get the 2 tone Sea Dweller for special occasions. Out of all my watches, the only company I would not buy another watch from is Breitling. It seriously lacks in quality.... but I love its aesthetics so it isn't going anywhere. It's also a monster chunk of watch. It eclipses my Sea Dweller. Lol. I still want an Omega and a Grand Seiko as well.
