Water bleeds out of fish in tank style fish holds. If the fish were pumped wet than this is possible due to the water slating back in forth in the tanks
free surface effect water in the bilges pumps must be out of order but still begs the question,,,,how'd it get there...lucky they were close to shore and weather was moderate...engineer must've been freakin'....
I worked on tugboats my whole life and I have never seen a vessel behave in this manner. It's like its possessed by a demon. Can't imagine what would cause it.
When the fuel tanks are emptied and no fish in the cargo hold to replace the lost weight of fuel in the bottom, the uprighting stability will be redused. Causing the vessel to roll like this
Well I've been on the water my entire life and that both there's too narrow too tall and too empty none of us not enough fuel that's why I actually isn't playing on nice day every time she comes up to her level the boat shifts asleep because of the momentum of the unbalanced load that thing's ready to roll over and capsize narrow boats are dangerous
Low metacentric height slack tanks and water in holds causing free surface effect and thus reduced GM. Captain has obviously not done his required stability calculations...
All these technical maritime explanatioms and complex scientific reasons for the swaying trawler, when probably in reality the captain had had a few too many and was turning the wheel from lock to lock 😳⚠️😁😲👍

bad stability most likely to much cargo above center of gravity and water in cargo holds causing free surface efect. captain apparently doesnt know much about stability. and being greedy he filled the hold as much as he could.

The GM is too small. This basically means that the centre of gravity is too high which is likely a combination of overloading and empty fuel or ballast tanks. From the characteristics of the roll it appears that there is a significant free surface effect. This is due to too much liquid free to move or slosh side to side. This can all be minimized by ensuring that tanks are completely full or completely empty as much as possible. There could also be a flaw due to improper modification to the vessel - particularly tanks.
