Rolling Stones - Live 1979 - Oshawa 

I was at the second show, went back to Toronto and went to eat at the good year restaurant and Charlie Watts showed up. It's a marvelous story

Hitchhiked 700 kms the morning of with only $42.10 left and bought a ticket off a blind guy for $42. Just as the lights went out after the Barbarians I rushed from the stands to the front of the staged to witness Mick and Keith within arms length do an acoustic Prodigal Son. Hitchhiked a back next day with 10 cents. Unforgettable.

I never thought that this concert would be available to listen to. After being busted at Pearson International Airport, the punishment by a Toronto judge was to have the Stones play a concert in Toronto's suburb of Oshawa and the benefit proceeds would go to the CNIB. A hockey arena for the Junior A Generals ( Bobby Orr played for the Shwa before going on to fame with Boston ), was a sweet venue as opposed to massive outdoor stadiums. As part of their classic Some Girl's tour of 1978/1979, (their concert in Detroit's masonic hall was part of this tour) was during the end of my high school era. I would have loved to have seen this as Keith had become clean and they rocked. Thank you very much for this upload.

very cool 'blind angel' concert from canada. an audio display of incontrovertible evidence demonstrating the Rolling Stones' larger contribution to the world as a unique cultural resource. thus, Mr. Richards deserved his freedom, rather than doing time in a canadian prison. thanks for uploading this great music from a very important concert.

I was there to see the Stones but remember the Barbarians because as a bass player I was a fan of Stanley Clarke and saw him in Buffalo at Uncle Sams about the same time. He did his tour the same summer for the I wanna play for you album. This was only Stones show in North America in 1979.

I lived a couple blocks from the Oshawa Civic Auditorium when the Stones came to Shwa. It was quite a scene. Hippies from all over descended on our little town not to mention a fair amount of bikers. There were no problems though. My brother made a small fortune collecting empty beer bottles from the parking lot.

Very pleased to find that recording !! I was there with some friends from Kitchener Ontario ...We even waited 20 heures in the cold and windy Toronto's street to get tickets ( Winter's nights are cold in Canada ,but we were young !!! ).

This is the Evening show but only The Rolling Stones set. New Barbarians ( with Ron Wood & Keith Richards) opened. The New Barbarians toured the US ( no Canadian dates) in 1979. A Drunken John Belushi introduced The New Barbarians and most of the SNL cast attended the evening show

No autotune bullcrap, just straight forward Rock n Roll. Keith must have been clean for this concert, huh?

The organisation was the CNIB, or the "Canadian National Institute for the Blind". Allegedly, Keith's "blind angel" pleaded on his behalf to the justice in Toronto. Keith was facing some serious time (25 years, no early parole. He would have been released in 2003 or so). This was because of the amount confiscated, and he was automatically charged with trafficking. Anyway, these concerts all fed money to the CNIB, and this event put Keith on the path to (relative) sobriety.

Totally remember Mick's scratchy voice for Prodigal Son. Wish I still had the ticket stub.

I actually don't mind this show. They sound drunk except for Keith. On Prodigal Son his playing was very sober and quite impressive. Mick sounds drunk. Forgets words. At times the two guitarists can't seem to play the same thing but they always ended up getting it together.

Mighty nice of that judge----special rules for special people. Hey it's OK! Equal justice under law!

Stones cover Chuck Berry so well. I do have to say the best version I've ever heard of "Let it Rock" is by the Jerry Garcia Band. It's on here somewhere.

Too much flak about this on here. Hastily put together show, probably not much in the way of rehearsals and all the logistics involved in putting on a show. I doubt they were happy to be there and Keith going through withdrawals... Bad moments for sure but its raw Stones! Rock and roll used to be raw. This is fucking great

Flash is a good case in point.. an unmitigated disaster!!

It was heroin. He was NOT charged with possession of heroin but possession of herion for the purposes of trafficing (due to the large amt. of heroin) which is automatically a LIFE sentence. This scared the shit out of Keith who cleaned up.

Hahaha, I ran into him 4 years later in NYC, and that would depend on how you define "cleaned up."

i think music lovers must opine about the music,and not about personal tastes of the musicians,why criticise them for taking drugs,when they sing so nicely--very cynical,in India,many students are into drugs without contributing anything to the society.

Terrible performance. Im a huge Stones fan and have heard some rough ones but there is just a lot of things wrong in these songs. Out of tone, wrong chords, two people playing in different keys, wrong starts, wrong bridges, wrong endings. Mick, Keith and Woody really must have been messed up on some Devils Dandruff for this one.
