The Rolling Thunder motorcycles which descend on Washington, D.C. every year on Memorial Day weekend rode through one last time on Sunday, ending a three decades-long tradition.
The group formed in 1987 by a veteran named Artie Muller and got its name from a 1965 bombing campaign against North Vietnam. It was initially meant to serve to pay tribute to fallen and missing-in-action soldiers.
It became synonymous with the Memorial Day celebration in Washington, but last year they announced 2019 would be their final ride citing lack of cooperation by law enforcement and the rising costs of permits.
