It makes 1290 HP, although the real RM 8SM variant Merlin engine made 1390 at 23000 feet, so I made a mistake that I only noticed now, but I think its pretty decent, I was aiming for the high-altitude performance anyways. I think I set the drivetrain parameters wrong despite giving it the 0.42-to-1 gear overdrive that the Spitfire Mk9 had, as the "airspeed" reads 663 mph, while in reality the propeller is barely moving the air faster than the aircraft at top speed, that's why it doesn't keep accelerating, so the more proper speed reading there would've been closer to 430 to 450 mph or so, to work with the Spitfire's top level flight speed of about 403 mph.
Also, for the exhaust, I roughly measured and tried to mimic the exhaust layout of Jay Leno's Rolls Royce Merlin car, with those funky giant exhaust headers that drop to large straight pipes that dump out the side in front of the rear wheels. This gave it a nice throaty sound, and it was a decision I made after several attempts to get the program to work with 12 exhausts, one for each cylinder, but even at just 6 the sound system became overloaded from having to simulate 6 or more individual sound particle systems at the same time. I mean, it kinda makes sense, what car do you know of that has more than 4, or heck even just 2, separate exhaust systems? The Zonda is about the only one I know of that has 4, and that's the most of all cars I can think of. Heck, I might try the Zonda motor sometime.

from about 1900 rpm up it sounds a lot like the Triton 6.8L v10 from ford

Its kinda does, doesn't it? Like a bit different in tone and a bit higher pitch but a bit Triton-like. Its probably the headers, I made the headers as close as I could to the ones on Jay Leno's 1934 Rolls-Royce Merlin, the big car with the big exposed headers, like the first cylinder on each bank is the main tube and as it goes down on a diagonal each of the next cylinders joins it before it exits to the main straight pipes under the running boards. Its an amazing car. Edit: Just comparing them now, I realize I did a few things wrong if I wanted to match Jay Leno's Merlin in sound, the way Engine Sim is calculating the header is by merging them all at one collector, it doesn't do log headers, so in essence the header on this thing looks like a long tube from the rear 4 cylinders of each bank entering portals and coming out by the collector which is attached directly to the front cylinders, and only then do the tubes combine, since the header tubes are only about as long as you see in Jay Leno's video, and the engine is longer, long enough that only cylinder two on each side could connect to a collector at cylinder one. Its a right mess, so its little wonder the sound isn't close to Jay Leno's Merlin.
