My son lives in Beverly Hills and owns a 1973 Caribbean Blue Silver Shadow. It is a magnificent example of British craftsmanship reflected in this model. It is his pride and joy and her name is Rosemary.
Thats fantastic. Rosemary is a long way from where she was created and pieced together! All Rolls Royces are considered female, while all Bentleys are considered male. Rosemary is a great name for his car!
The Rolls Royce is one of a few models of cars that remain in service a very long time. And still look good after many years. This looks great for a car that has been around and in use 43 years.
Back in 1978, My aunt's husband had one of those, he parked it in our California driveway one time. That was a rare car to behold in America back in those days. I have been mesmerized ever since. Thanks for sharing your awesome car!
I noticed, hence my comment. I didn't know it was the same age as mine (2006), albeit in Midnight Emerald Green. I'm sure you'll agree it is a fantastic and slightly bonkers car with the W12 engine. Happy motoring, Sir.
Its in exactly the condition I love an old Rolls to be in, original paint and leather and well serviced. This one brings back happy memories as my late Uncle who lived in Devon purchased a new one in 1979 from HA Fox, peacock blue with magnolia leather, dark blue top role and dark blue carpets and rugs. One of the things I remember most was the smell. It had a smell like Earl Grey or Darjeeling tea, a wonderful fragrance. You were wise getting the front head rests, I always thought they made the interior even more special. I hope you enjoy many years motoring in that beauty, Subscribed all the way from Austria

Wonderful Terry! And good to hear from someone else who's had a passion for the Silver Shadow from a young age. My Godfather had one and a drive in it was always an event. I think the family had a Vauxhall Viva at the time! Finally I bought a flared arch 1975 in peacock blue in 2012 - regrettably sold when I moved overseas. They’ll be another I’m sure! Thank you Nick! The weather has been atrocious here lately and that together with the whole lockdown issue has made it difficult to get her out on her weekly run. I aim to get her out once a week for at least ten miles or more. Nothing worse than not driving these cars. Fingers crossed that I will get her out this weekend! John, I have both. The Shadow is for fun but the CFS is for work.... The CFS is 2006 so it's getting on a bit too but absolutely stunning and only 46k miles
Magnificent example of a T registered Shadow II in a very pretty colour. I found it was amazing agile for such a large car when motored at an enthusiastic pace. Your Bentley looks a very tempting rocket ship for spirited excursions. February 1978 I took delivery of a new S registered Shadow II in a nutmeg colour from the Conduit showroom in London. It was wonderful at age 25 to Chauffeur my Aussie parents around Norway, Sweden and Denmark for 2 weeks in August after taking the car ferry from Newcastle to Bergin. Following a year in the UK and 5 months wafting around Europe I shipped her home in a container to Australia under the 92% import and sales tax concession. 6,000 Aussies bought tax free cars in UK and Europe before the scheme was canned in December 1978. I was so lucky to benefit from the high level of protection for Australian car manufacturers... Not that any Australian made car cost as much as a house...
Stephen, yes, it's astonishingly agile. I can do a two point turn where other cars would need a three point turn! Nutmeg in these cars is also very nice indeed!
Agile as both a touring car with rack and pinion steering and in the city where the great visibility and small turning circle with light steering added to the driver's confidence despite its size. Many European drivers were surprised at the gusto of my SSII on B roads... And its youthful driver... No point in exceeding 130 kph on motorways when the 105 litre fuel tank would dispose of it at 25 litres /100 kms at 160 instead of 16 litres at 130 kph. If you kept your foot to the floor at 175 kph the tank emptied at over 30 litres /100 kms. Like tear up dollar bills just to push huge amounts of air.. PS... I stayed in youth hostels. And gave lifts to fellow hostellers and hitch hikers.. It was safe back then.. Great fun.. Crazy Aussie..

There's a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow (first gen) near my school and I love it, unfortunately kids have smashed the windows and stole the bonnet ornament which is sad. Great video.
Beautiful car Terry. It is fabulous that you have managed to trace the first owners daughter and keep in regular touch. I bought my second Rolls early this year March 2021. Metallic Gold 1987 Spirit. It's in for a door panel to be repainted at the moment because the previous short term owner decided to apply his initials to the drivers door in vinyl letters then lacquer over them. It has so far taken over a week to remove and repaint almost half the car to get the paintwork exact. It sounds as though you enjoy your motor as much as I do mine. I too take it out weekly. I love cleaning the leather interior. That's now looking like new. Happy Motoring Terry.

Ah Mark, that instinct to buy a Shadow II was deeper than my videos! If you're like me, something was there already and you needed a push. For me it was joining Facebook groups like Eccentric Hobbyists and realising it was entirely possible!
Hi there Terry., I have always wanted to do the same when I was first introduced to a 1965 Silver Cloud as a young lad of 8 or 9. My dad worked in the car industry all his life and took me with him, to work one afternoon during our summer holidays. The year was 1967 and the car he would be servicing that afternoon was the "65" Cloud. I was instantly smitten and became a life long aficionado of the brand. Now, whilst I never did privately own a Rolls Royce, a company I worked for acquired a Silver Shadow 2 "80" as part of its fleet of cars. Actually, there were only four vehicles in the company in total. I was allocated a Vauxhall Astra GTE and the rest of the cars went to other directors etc...However, on occasions, I would bully the CEO in letting me borrow the Royce. I am retiring in September and hope to find a Silver Shadow 2 in the future. Not concourse, but something I can live with. So when I discovered your channel, I imagine that will be me doing the very some soon. Take care Terry and hope you enjoy your commute tomorrow. :)
I have a Cloud III and have owned it now for 38 years. Use it most days and it has never not started first time. The only major repair has been a new cylinder head gasket. It's regularly serviced and has been since new apparently. I am only the second owner.
What a beauty she is! But just take her for a ten-mile ride during the week is too short a distance. You'll abuse the engine. 40 miles at least. Enjoy the most beautiful RR ever build. Keep on rolling.
I'm afraid in this lockdown I'm just taking a big risk even doing ten miles! But every second or third week she gets forty miles. Two weeks ago she did eighty in one day!
@@terrywaugh3610 Lovely car. I've had a 1965 Silver Cloud III for 39 years, as the second owner. It starts first time every time. I was told to use it as often as possible, that they last longer and that every pound spent on petrol saves about five pounds in maintenance costs.
@@mscott3918 that's my policy too! However presently in North Ireland you can get arrested if you don't have an essential reason to be driving. I'm taking mine to the supermarket this afternoon but that's all I can get away with ☹️
@@terrywaugh3610 That's a pity, they need to be used. Having said that, I haven't been able to use mine for over a month because I broke my shoulder very badly several weeks ago, and can't drive. Friends are very keen to help me out by driving it for me.
Chris P Agreed totally. Not to mention an important safety upgrade too- whiplash is so debilitating even after relatively minor rear enders. That you can improve safety while actually improving on the aesthetic is an opportunity not to be missed.
@@terrywaugh3610 A friend of mine bought a silver shadow 1977 just the other day. Excellent condition but the sound of the closing doors is not that fine I guess.
I own two cars, one that is a 2018, and another that is a 1998. I absolutely love driving the older car and look forward to any and all opportunities to do so. The newer car is full of features but is "plastic fantastic" compared to the other and in two years the new car has only been driven 8,000 miles. There's something about the build and quality of the older models.
Those tear drop headrests look a great enhancement to the original car. Although running costs are expensive, they are not relying on modern electronics which can be very costly, and a long wait for supply of replacement modules and components... I'm sure this car has many, many miles of pleasant motoring left...
Lovely car Terry. I have a 77 shadow 2 residing here in the northwest of England. Hopefully after the lockdown we will be able to get some miles on these cars and get to some car shows. Keep up the good work.
Very fine classic car that is one of the most underrated in the world. And a very loveley and not arrogant video. I find it is very nice that you know the last owner an talk about him. Cars are not human but they can have a kind of soul given by their owners I think. When you take good care of your shadow it will run and live further 50 years I am sure, no matter how many miles it has. I have an all green Jaguar xj6, 4,2 litres, Series 1 from 1973, the last model build by Sir William Lyon, who was the founder of Jaguar. Best regards from germany.
Beautiful colour and I've always appreciated the look of this vintage model. Some colours were definitely an acquired taste such as Seychelles blue over silver mink with red leather interior and the gold with brown was another colour combination was not for the faint of heart. Have only owned one British car but Land Rovers at the time were basically Ford products and it always received lots of attention but it was high maintenance. I secretly lust after the Camargue but it also is not a daily driver. Hate to admit it but I switched to Toyota and Lexus and it's been sublime. Great first video, keep going.

By that stage they had removed the "Old English" appointment inside the cars with a later body style that is "modern" ??? ... (Jaguar did the same with the XJ series when Ford took over) ... (Also Aston Martin in the late 90's) ... ... Terry if my arm was twisted to purchase a new car ??? ..... i would point to a Dacia !!! . (because nothing about new cars inspire me whatsoever) ... ... WOW i still think the Silver Spirit still offers great value for money !!! (or the jaguar V12) . Hey.. as a "run around" i'd buy i used tiny Toyota and have it upholstered in leather with sound proofing and "icy" air conditioning lol .... MANY THANKS FOR READING MY BORING COMMENT
These cars can go several 100, 000 miles if you frequently change the engine oil and gearbox oil. They are bulletproof Drivetrains. Most of the problems come when these cars sit and are not driven! Good luck this it! I have one too, and love it!❤️
I agree! No sitting for mine. Out every week! She's in getting welded rear end under bumper and respray both rear quarter panels, and wax oil underneath last two weeks. Picking her up on Friday. Can't wait! Thank you!
Am I the only one who finds Rolls Royce of previous decades more elegant than present day Rolls Royces with all their gimmicky digital touchscreens that will not age well when they become obsolete and unusable?

The problem of a classic Rolls-Royce is that is a nice, fantastic car only in british landscape and with british numberplate, with Italian, german, american numberplate is not so good
Can I ask, I’ve had many shadows but early ones, the last being Caribbean blue with a everflex.. I now have a Ocean Blue Spirit... she looks very similar in colour... is she Ocean Blue or a slight difference?.. great you look after it so much. I’ve watched many of your driving videos but to hear a description video was great. Well done. We’ve had many early ones... you can see them on spencelayhs.co.uk. But would love to know the paint name or code just to see if it’s the same as the 85 Spirit. Keep the videos going.. I’m going to set up a new channel myself as those who love these cars will always appreciate the smallest of camera drives. 👌🏽
