Gran rival de España para las Eurocopas, bien en fases de clasificación o dentro del torneo. Rumanía fue en las Euros lo que había sido Yugoslavia para los Mundiales. En un periodo de 20 años (1976 - 1996) que abarcaba 6 campeonatos de Europa, solamente hubo una vez en la que no nos enfrentamos con ellos (Euro de 1992). En las demás (1976 clasificación; 1980 clasificación; 1984 fase de grupos; 1988 clasificación; 1996 fase de grupos) nos los encontramos en todas.

Whst undid Romania, was the last match v Austria in Vienna, the last hurdle, they fell at. A great pity, as they were putting up much bigger scores against a very overrated Spsin side in this qualifying campaign. Signs on, Spain had a fairly shitty Euro'88 in West Germany following this, they were lucky to get over Denmark, 3-2 in Hannover. Post Mexico' 86, Spain were not great in tournaments, Euro'88 and Italia'90 especially, always failed to deliver back in those days in the big tournaments. Romania were technically and individually far superior to Spain during this campaign. A great pity, as they would have performed much better in the Euro'88 tournament instead of Spain.
