ROME CHARGES INTO BATTLE! Field of Glory: Empires - First Look - Battle Export System 

Will all the battles for all the factions export into the base game, or do you need to buy any of the expansions?

It's not even that cumbersome, the load screens take seconds.

If you mean Crusader Kings II, I don't think it will appeal to the same crowd. That game is so character driven, while this one has very little about characters.

The prediction seems to be that the game will be available late June. Whether that will be called early access or not, I don't know. From what I have seen, it looks rather polished.

I'm sky high on the game, but I agree that the playing out battles in II is probably not such a great thing. The game is a deep empire simulation focused on the struggle to expand without self destructing. I'm thinking that it would be a jarring experience to take an hour or more out from playing that experience to dealing with the details of a major battle, and then return to this other totally different focus. So I suspect that most people will use feature very sparingly. And that most of the people who really want the details of battle would not really be happy with the focus of the rest of the game. My guess is that the game will have a niche with people like me who are sick of games that portray the difficult of empire as being the expansion -- that is historically BS. But I also guess that the game will end up with a lot of bad reviews from people who bought for the battles.

The games are made by two different companys with the same publisher. The load times a quick so I don't see what the fuss is about. The real problem with Empires is only having one turn per year.

The default battle system of FOGEmpires is an automated battle that you can choose to view or skip (with just getting the results) so that's the autoresolve feature i believe youre asking for. This video is just featuring the integration with a totally different game called FOGII in which if you feel like playing out the battles manually, you can. This video from ~4:30 is the game FOGII until 36:40 where it shows you FOGEmpires again with that battle system at 38:03

@@tdubbz3613 I know that the automated battle is effectively the autoresolve, I'm just nitpicking that I thought that switching between the 2 games in order to manually fight battles was unnecessary and gimmicky when I felt they might have just been integrated into the one game. I'm not trying to bash the system or the game, it seems to work just fine. But as Strontium 19 mentioned above, they're effectively two different games by two different developers, and perhaps these developers didn't want to do manual battles, but allowed for the option. I appreciate all the responses, and I understand much better now.

It's a bonus feature. Empires has a battle system but it's not s tactical on that allows for manual control. By allow an export to another game that does it adds something extra to it. I imagine the system isn't in Empires as that's not part of the design for the games main systems. Plus budget etc etc.

Nope this is a very different battle system to total war

You only have to switch between games if you want the optional turn based battles which are an extra feature for Empires. You still have battles just non controllable ones in Empires anyway.

@@hamekochi2331 admittedly no. I'm not saying the game as a whole isn't very good. Just find it difficult to take these minor skirmishes seriously after winning battles against 12000 men and being able to command the whole battle. I like how FOG has gone for somewhere Inbetween a paradox game like imperator and a total war game. Just out of interest have you played total wars? Particularly the most recent. I don't think you'll be disappointed 😊

I think that you make some excellent points. I also am a military history enthusiast so I do appreciate what you are saying. If FOG had more models on screen it would smash it.

@@hamekochi2331 also I know it's only one point but you're wrong about the swords beating spears, rock paper scissors aspect. Who will win is dependant on loads of things, morale, terrain, casualties. The only reason a sword unit normal beats spears is because most spears are untrained levies. Poor morale. A decent spear unit with armour and shields can hold their own against swordsmen. Their weaker attack damage is offset by a very strong defensive aspect and good morale and discipline. On the opposite hand swordsmen units are generally better trained and equipped, are more expensive and less common.unless you're the Romans post etruscan war and pre division of the empire. And trust me most swords units won't win head against a phalanx. Trust me

@@hamekochi2331 still total war have no rivalry , its still the best strategy + field battle game ever , i hope there will be a game that exceed total war limitation

And the large scale battles are so much better

@@hamekochi2331 you need to play any total war with right mods. The vanilla game is always lacking but with a few mods the game becomes epic. Divide et Impera just got example is, for me, the best ancient grand strategy game. It adds so many layers to the game that make the cultural, diplomatic and political aspects much closer to CK2 but maintaining the epic battles

I mean it's a simple button click to export and then it's automated to load up the other game takes a few seconds lol. But at the end of the day this is an optional extra battle mode. I expect most will use the default battle system in Empires most of the time by hey having the option to fight a battle isn't a bad thing :)

grant1133 Lol hope that’s sarcasm. FOG 2 is the premier tactics game set in Antiquity. Empires looks incredibly fleshed out.

Well, lionheartx10 is showcasing a feature of the game that lots of us will probably use very little. I mean, I guess it is nice that if you want to stop in the middle of your grand strategy empire game and play out a battle, you could. But if you look at this first, you are getting a total misconception of what Field of Glory Empires is, and what a player will mainly be focused on.... But yeah, if you are looking for a tactical wargame, this title will strike you as a huge step back.

@@donbemont7901 Well a lot of Field of Glory players have wanted a much more expanded campaign system for that game over the last almost 2 years it has been out, so at least many of them will use the export system quite a bit. Much of the criticism in the comments seem to come mainly from people that don't know the history of the two games. Field of Glory 2 is a tactical wargame by Byzantine Games (which is basically just one guy) based om the original Field of Glory computer game which itself was based on the Field of Glory tabletop miniatures rule set and was released almost 2 years ago. Empires is a strategic empire simulator by Ageod Games which has been developed over the last few years. Empires has it's own battle system which was shown at the end of this video. At some point during development someone had the idea that it would be cool if you had the option to play out the battles in a tactical simulator of some sort and since both game companies are distributed by Slitherine it was an obvious match for the two games. That said Empires is a fully self contained game they have just added an extra bonus feature to the game that you can use if you want (and own FOG2) but is completely unnecessary for you to play and enjoy Empires.

@@SpeedyCM I agree with everything you say. But as I watch the nitty gritty of the Empire game in other Let's Plays, I suspect that most people will find that the detailed battles and the detailed empire development do not fit together all that comfortably. But maybe I am speaking only for myself, I often have trouble predicting how other people will react to things.

@@donbemont7901 I have been waiting for something like this since I was a kid. My dream has been for an unholy union between paradox and creative assembly but by now it's clear that they would fuck it up. I'm glad that someone was able to do this. Plus the decadence mechanic automatically makes this a superior game to any total war title. I haven't bought a total war game since shogun two, the new ones are universally trash. As for paradox, imperator is trash. The only complaint I have for this game is turn length.

Rome two is trash. he barely scratched the surface in this game.

This game is much more complex than any Total War games. While TW is cool it is still more an arcade

Rome 2 has no depth. This game is very deep and harder than Rome 2.
