The Day of the Jackal also makes excellent use of several locations in France. I’ve never traveled to France, but these movies make me want to. Car chases are usually boring, but the narrow streets of Nice add great atmosphere and excitement.

What is interesting, is that the bar in Paris that was the basis for the location of this scene was razed to the ground, the building demolished and replaced with another. The stairs still exist but that is it.

It's not far from the park below Sacre Cour. When I visited in '08, I was only 4-5 blocks away from the stairs and cafe building and didn't realize it. :( Now the building has been replaced, although the stairs are still there.

@@afrose71 Yeah, saw it on Google Earth or Maps in the last year or so. A shame! It's just like my favorite record store in my hometown closing down in 2006 and block of houses being torn down and replaced with condos in the past couple of years. When I was in Paris the first time, there was a portrait that looked like either Frank Zappa or Tony Iommi about halfway up the stairs, done in spray paint. When I went back a year later, it was gone.

I can watch this movie Over And Over And Over. Just wish I knew WTF was in the Case BTW Heres everything Deniro does in this scene 1 He approaches from back 2 Checks Alley way 3 Watches all others involved Enter First 4 Secures the gun in a spot where he can access it, and it wont be confiscated 5 Peers through windows to see what heswalking into 6 he knows its closing time so anyone that enters after him and is allowed in is a potential threat 7 He asked for the bathroom to check it and internal rear 8 Unlocks door (acting like he is using the wrong door accidentally) leaving it unlocked ( where the gun is) 8 Returns to bar and lets them tell him who he is notidentifying himself 9 doesnt reveal any information about who when or why (letting her explain the scenario he already knows) 10 while exiting takes the last sip to be sure he is the last person to exit with noone behind him..

My first guess is that it is a list of embedded agents in Europe. Why else would both the Irish and Russians be interested in the case. My second guess is that they are launch codes for American missiles in Europe, hence the involvement of the Irish, Russians, and Americans (*SPOILER* CIA). I will also make the extreme leap that the german speaking individuals originally carrying the case are Austrians since Austria was the rotating EU leading country 1998 (it was also Luxembourg in 1997, another partially German speaking country).
