The 3rd house is fine..no way I would file a claim on that one...I would wait until the next storm and see if more hail damage would come. Another thing insurance companies are doing is scheduled roof coverage..if your roof is over 15 years old forget it because you will not even get half of what the job cost.
1ST i CANT BELIEVE YOU PUT A LADDER ON 1ST STORY ROOF ANDWENT UP TO THE 2ND STORY. i ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK!!!! What kind of ladder anchor do you use for that type of ladder? I believe it was yellow and held onto the gutter.
I use a tool called a Pitch Hopper and a gear tie wrapped around the gutter hanger. You can see videos I've made about that here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0eTcYVc9SX8.html and here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Fbf_gpGC82Y.html
Id say i tell about 10 or 11 homeowners a week they dont have or id recommend they not file a claim. Two reasons. I dont want to waste either of our times. And i dont want them to file a claim that is pointless. After experienced we can tell if its winnable or needed for a claim.
12 mins of up to tennis ball size hail Sep. 29, 2023 North Austin/Round Rock, TX area = file home owners insurance claim literally 10 mins after the storm, after seeing this size hail land inside our house from breaking through the windows and holes through the house siding exposing pink insulation. That IS the right thing to do.
Mad respect for you Sir! It makes me anxious just watching you climbing onto tops of roofs! Thank you for educating us with your experience and knowledge.
Been looking for a really good video on this and sir your video was the best one so far. I’m trying to learn roofing and becoming a sales rep and door knocker so I’ve been doing a lot of studying up to enhance my knowledge.
yes people. filing a claim goes on ur record even if they pay u or not and then u wonder why our rates go up!! do ur research first. ins companies are there to make money.
But they don't go by "claims on your record". My insurance company goes by "how many storms" or "how much storm damage" they had *in my area*. That was straight from the insurance company's mouth. I think it's grossly unfair when *I* didn't have damage, but because there was damage "in my area" (essentially my state) they charge me more even though I didn't have damage. I was also told by the shingle company my house *didn't* have damage. Insurance companies are crooked as the dickens. They upped my insurance as well because the county assessed my house at a high value which stinks. I know what the house is worth and I know what's wrong with it. I won't take advantage of the next buyer. They're going to know all. I see the assessed values of homes, too, and I see what the county does to those values after a house sells at a lower price. One house sold for less than mine but after it was sold, the county jacked up the value well over mine, even though it sold for less. The games county assessors play. The games insurance companies play. They essentially forced me to get my house reshingled "That's a tired roof" and said if something happened to it, they wouldn't pay to have it replaced. Needed to have 120mph shingles. At that speed the roof comes off. A lot of good it does to have 120mph shingles if the roof is taken off. I finally dropped the insurance agent here in town and got the same insurance policy straight from the company - saved a bundle.
would it be a denial or just no damage? Hail is covered, but this roof wasn't sufficiently damaged to replace it, so it just becomes no damage to pay on. Ground water is a denial since it isn't covered.
Interesting. Every google search stated to call my insurance before calling a roofing company. My agent assured me if they came out & there was no damage I would not be faulted with a claim. Presently the company is stating no serious damage to my shingles & departedI. Then I got a claim notice from State Farm for damage to my roof turbines & low profiles vents so it sure looks like there’s a lot of gray in this process, or flat manipulation
@homesteadroofing Yes, it would definitely be helpful to know how to make that judgment call on doing repairs on the roof versus having to replace the whole roof.
I don’t know how much the roof has been damaged by hails today since I can’t see it but my flowering garden has been damaged massively. I wonder if my damaged garden is covered by the home insurance.
We just got some small hail hits on roof,do small hits bout 1/4 inch cause problem?Roof was replaced last year, dont think insurance will cover,Anything you can do without replacing shingles that would help. Thanks
Are the companies that come driving then neighborhood after a hails storm trust worthy? I had this one company stop by and they said they found hail damage and hail damage on my down spouts. I believe Roof is 19yrs old. (FIJI construction inc.)
Isn’t it in the insurance policy on page 28 that you have them inspect after or whenever you think there was damage? Otherwise they can deny any future claims? Also didn’t think you’d get a ding with your insurance until after they approved a payout or claim paid. Are you 100% sure you are correct on this?
On page 28? Wouldn't the page number be unique to the insurance company and the specific policy? Not every homeowner will be able to look at their page 28 and get this information. I've not seen any insurance company deny future claims because damage wasn't reported. If damage happens within a policy period, the homeowner should rightfully expect that it will be covered. Just my opinion...

I personally wouldn't go with a company that canvasses neighborhoods after a storm offering free roof inspections. I'll find a contractor myself through referrals. I think the better contractors stay pretty busy, without having to knock on a bunch of doors to find work.
and guess what people. anything u report to ur ins and they dont pay for it they are most likely going to flag it and ask u to repair it or drop u!!!! listen people! stop filing claims just because ur neighbor filed a claim!!!!!!
I recently filed claim after hail storm and the field adjuster came and spent 45 min on the roof with my roof contractor and recommended a total replacement for the roof. However the desk adjuster reviewed the report and claims all the spots caused by hail are blisters from wear and tear and approve replacement of all soft metals such as gutters and downspouts, soffit and facia and all vents but not approve to replace the shingles. I don’t know what to do now. Shingle has damage and the damage on metals are just cosmetic. But shingles are not approved
You can request a 2nd inspection with a different adjuster. If he arrives at the same conclusion as the first one, you can go to the desk adjuster's manager. If none of this helps you should seek the help of a public adjuster or an appraiser.
I live in Ohio where they just pay onezy twozies I call it. Basically damage on a scale of 1-10 maybe a 1 or 2. I am honest like you but it gets me nowhere here in Columbus as I see roofs get torn up that have no damage on them all the time. The doorknockers are so bad that some homeowners will think I'm lying when I'm telling them what I just said.
We're building an affiliate network of roofers we can refer jobs to since we get so many requests from around the country. If you'd be interested in that, send an Email to info@homesteadroofingcolorado.com
May I ask?.. if you were to tell the homeowner to file the claim, would you also ask the homeowner to sign one of those contingency forms? Or would you wait for the insurance approval and and the scope of work is written?
At my company we ignore the insurance company when we start the process. If we think the roof needs to be replaced and the owner wants to file a claim, we write our quote independent of what the insurance company says about the scope of work. We know what needs to happen to replace a roof and insurance adjusters don't. If the claim is missing things or the project cost is too low, we'll meet with the homeowner and explain why. We never use contingency agreements. We write contracts with an actual project cost on them.
You can send an Email to info@homesteadroofingcolorado.com, however, we are trying to help homeowners after 5 big hailstorms in our area this summer, so I probably won't be able to reply for several days.
He is full of BS...You can report a loss for records only and if you have a roofer there first, they will pull shingles and/or break concrete roofing tiles so facilitate a covered claim!!!
Maybe you had bad experience and your placing that frustration onto this man who is trying to help people? I understand there can be some bad contractors. But a rotten apple doesn’t spoil the whole batch! God bless Lee!
