1) For everyone complaining about insurance, why don't you go ahead and cancel all your policies and go through life without insurance. If you feel like you're wasting your premiums, then put your money where your mouth is and just go without insurance. 2) Letting your roof get that old is like going 40,000 miles without changing your engine oil. Take care of your stuff for crying out loud. Not that it's right, but no wonder that adjuster isn't interested in paying the loss. It's an insult to all the policyholders who do take care of their homes. That roof was highly susceptible to wind damage because the homeowner was too cheap and irresponsible to replace their own roof 5 years earlier when they actually should have. It's like hoping a rusted out boat will keep you afloat. 3) Contractors, watch out about talking coverage. Could get in trouble if you're not a PA in most states. 4) Adjuster, get off that roof and let the homeowner know you'll come back when the contractor puts away the camera. That's not professional of the contractor, trying to intimidate and threaten legal action without the carrier having even taken an official position in writing yet. 5) 100% that contractor has a criminal record lol. 100% the adjuster does not. 6) State Farm messed up before the loss even happened. That should have been ACV only. Or State Farm should have dropped them earlier. By the time the claim happened it was too late. The adjuster should have just replaced the roof and closed the file.

If they are going to insure the property, including the roof, sight unseen and collect premiums, then they have to pay the claim. If the roof cant be repaired, then it should be replaced so the homeowner can enjoy their home in the pre-loss condition. Send an inspector out before issuing the policy if you dont like it.

@@chainsawenema4042 great point I have wondered thar for years agents often change the age and type of shingle to get the premium lower to sell it as well. You can easily send out ladder assist and document the roof for cheap. Or just ACV the entire roof for wind and hail which is probably what will happen or an outright exclusion.

@@chainsawenema4042 inspectors don’t know what they are looking at. They need to send a roofer. I did a inspection report repair last year. Said to reseal shingles that were loose in one corner. The house was spaced 1x’s and the nails were not hitting wood was the issue there. Shingles were very poorly sealed all over(tamco, could just unseal them with your fingers), good amount of granular loss. Could stick your arm up the valley because it wasn’t sealed. Not only did that house need a new roof, it needed a redeck during covid prices. Wonder if that info would hold up any sales or potential new policy holders.

Repairable every day of the week. Has anyone thought about this contributing to the problem with the industry. Why do you think insurance companies keep squeezing the roofer. These are the real bad guys that make the insurance companies stingy and cautious. Just one individual crooked contractor can do over one million dollars of fraudulent damage. Jeff seems like the bad guy here but I worked for State Farm for years when it comes to a 2nd inspection for repairability the decision is made by management before it is even assigned to the adjuster, so Jeff was told to go to the home and explain that the roof is repairable before even laying eyes on it. It is nearly impossible to get management to change their mind 99% of the time they will not. He knows it is not repairable but can not go against management or they will pull claims from him and adjusters are paid by the claim so they basically take money from you for questioning them. Also you will be fired if you attempt to show how to repair.

Doing something without the proper skill while claiming to know the proper skill would be considered "deliberate damage". Bro, let me save you from making false statements. You stated that basically an old roof cannot be repaired. So, what you are saying is that in when someone calls a roofing company because of a leak from missing shingles, the roofing company tells them “ We cannot repair your roof because you have 10 damaged shingles that are old.” No, the roofing company says “ We can repair your roof for x dollars. Old roofs are repaired all day, everyday by roofing companies. I used to do roofing repairs on 3 tab and architectural roofs all the time. You know why….because people had a few hundred bucks laying around but they didn’t have 5k or 10k. My point is simple. Don’t say the roof cannot be repaired. Yes, this State Farm rep did it incorrectly. However, he should have simply used a flat bar and the shingles could have easily been repaired. So, it comes down to the policy and the state. Does the state where the house is located have a matching clause and does the policy have the rider too. You should have both of those things present on your Mobile IPad to show the field adjuster and then, the roof will be approved. That simple.

There are honest roofers and there are dishonest roofers. In Texas, the homeowner is required to pay the deductible and many roofers are willing to "absorb" the deductible through various schemes, this is a violation of state law. Additionally, many communities require solicitors to obtain solicitation permits. Do these roofers that solicit after storms always obtain solicitation permits before soliciting for business by going door to door? Some roofing companies play by the rules while others skirt the law, this make it difficult on the honest businesses.
@dannyg2197

The government has no business sticking their nose where they don't belong anyways. Idc what the law says, if the roofer wants to save the homeowner money by not making them pay the deductible then the government has no right telling them they can't.

@Dmitry , im a roofer for 6 years now . Last week I was contacted by a homeowner. We provide roof claim insurance. We provide homeowner necessary info to claim their roof . This homeowner his insurance carrier was Erie Group Insurance company here in PA . He set up the inspection between 11 to 11:30 am . But they were there around 10:30 , and I couldn't meet with them , because his inspection was only 15minutes . When this inspection took me 45 minutos (inside & outside ) The adjuster jumped up on his roof . He was with a "roofer" . So now the adjuster are doing this inspection with a "Roofer " that probably works with the company, trained to say No damage . I submitted photos and enough damages inside & outside of the roof . And the adjuster sent a poor roof inspection saying the roof has no storm damage . When there are enough wind damage . The worst part is above the garage where the whole roof is sagging. I called this adjuster and never answered my calls and texts . This is how the insurance companies are working now , the hire an "adjuster " and a "roofer" to say NO !!!

Legally if he were to make an attempt to repair the roof he would be doing illegal repairs his license is in insurance loss adjusting and not roofing. However a contractor with a license can make the attempt to prove it cannot be done. Just like the contractor cannot make a coverage decision the adjuster should not be able to make a decision if the roof is reparable or not they can only decide if repairability opens up coverage or not. If the attempt has been made Infront of the adjuster and it cannot be done the adjuster should apply the language of the policy to the loss at hand.

That varies State to State. For example, in Colorado it would be allowable as long as it did not exceed $1,000 or, in some jurisdictions a set amount of square feet/percentage of the roof. For example, in El paso County, Colorado it would be perfectly acceptable as long as it did not exceed 25% of the roof, was under 1 square in size, or $1,000 in estimated value.

@@RoofingInsights3.0 I am a Contractor in Colorado. Depending on the jurisdiction preforming the work without proper licensing and insurance could result in jail time and fines. @@kerryhettick3784 So while I referenced the pprbd values for permit, they actually don't require a license for work below those parameters. In fact, to quote "Contractors must be licensed by PPRBD prior to soliciting for, contracting for, consulting for, or performing work that requires a permit" Insurance consultants are not required to as long as they stay withing the parameters as provided by pprbd and by the state of colorado.. This is consistent in many places I've worked (a few dozen states and a few hundred jurisdictions) where minor repairs like that would not require a license or exceed the boundaries imposed by local jurisdictions to be performed by an adjuster or independent consultant. Usually where such limitations exist, they exist due to contractual or insurance requirements.

I was working as a team during Hurricane Laura. I was in Florida writing and estimating, my Cat partner was in Louisiana doing inspections. He sent me pictures of a house that was owned by someone who also happened to be an adjuster. The insured sent pictures from directly after the storm because portions of his roof had been tarped and we couldnt get pictures of that damage. While writing the claim, I noticed that some of the details of the roof didnt quite match. Some of the hardware didnt match our pictures, pipe jacks in the wrong spot or non existent. The main issue I had was that the area that had been tarped in our photos...had ridge vents in the photos the insured sent us. Weird. I asked my partner if there were ridge vents, he said "No just caps". The pictures that were sent to us were taken on an Iphone and Iphones Geo-Tag pictures with coordinates. I found that information in the pictures and looked up those Coords and the pictures were taken about three miles away at a house with almost Identical features. Made a note for the DA, sent the claim unfinished and never heard back. Pretty sure that dude got in serious trouble.

Our side of the roof was reshingled right before we bought it, and the neighbors side is completely dilapidated and has a hole in it. We only use the garage for storage, so i just barely noticed it has been leaking into our side all winter and has ruined our wall and most of our belongings. What do we do? Do we call our insurance to make a claim, or do we ask them for their insurance? It's also worth mentioning that our neighbors are not the reasonable type, and I'm pretty sure we will have a fight on our hands. We’ve been having this problem in southern Maryland With STATEFARM a lot lately, they did not used to fight us on repairability of shingles when we would video an attempted repair/fail and send it into them. About eight months ago they started really digging their heels in and we have been forced to involve public adjusters and even calls for appraisals We eventually win all of them but sadly some of them have taken eight months. I assume that the insurance company has made the decision that if they put up this fight and caused this trouble that a certain percentage of homeowners and contractors will not know how to fight it or do not think it’s worth the time and money to fight it and they will go away thus savings for the insurance company. I have been giving all of our customers the heads up before they file the claim letting them know that “unfortunately the amount of damage and /or the repair ability doesn’t mean anything anymore, it’s all about the Field adjuster and desk adjuster that we get, that will decide how the process will go.”

I like some of the comments earlier. What do you expect with a 20 year old 3-tab roof? You neglect your own roof and expect insurance company to pay for a new roof? That's more wear and tear guys. I actually know a lot of people that don't have insurance on their home. I really just have insurance for fire reasons due to the age of my home. Other than that, insurance companies scam a lot of homeowners by not paying for what has been damaged. If you don't want to payout on a claim, then get out of the insurance business. It's the riak you yake by insuraning some POS house, but you sold th policy so you legally have to stand behind it. You can talk policy and not have to be a PA. The insurance papers specifically say give this claim to your contractor and have them contact us with any questions or discrepancies. The insurance company will lose everytime in court eith their PA bullshit excuse.

Age and pitch are about 65% of that determination factor. Knowledge to replace a full shingle in the field requires the individual to need only 2 tool. Flat bar and hammer. But, a knife if it's a cut piece. Give a child a claw hammer, (which fyi that style is not common for roofers) and direct the child on what to do which is to pull the nail. Within a minute or so any inexperienced child is able to learn what part of the hammer pulls the nail. Through experience, a roofer need not to study or figure out what must be done to remove a damaged shingle. So knowledge to remove the shingle is roughly 25%. The remaining 10%? Other potential factors like what time of the day it is, (midday is a near guarantee to rip tear or damage shingles, but there's granual loss, trees overhead, full sunlight exposure, homeowners shoe got caught and tore a shingle...etc... After 14 years of roofing, I strongly disagree with your opinion as well as the opinion of the person agreeing to disagree with you, that there only two specific shingles, out of the like I think 18 different styles of roof shingles that can be pulled and replaced without tearing. Me being comprehensive of what you're referring to, being that of reference to specifically just asphalt shingles, I'd still disagree with you. Age, and location is the majority of that determining factor. Owen's Corning pink panther bundles? Bet you can't pull one without damaging it a few hours after installing it! Struggle is real pulling just one away of them from a freshly opened bundle.

Adjusters should be independent from the insurance company - be rotated . On the other side - if your roof can't be repaired because of age - the insurance company shouldn't be responsible for areas that haven't been damaged. Time to get a new roof. Cost of owning a house.
@jimrogers3931
@jimrogers3931 2 года назад
I have been an independent adjuster for 26 years and roofs were somehow able to be repaired back when I started in this industry much more frequently than they are now. Nowadays it seems no roof is repairable regardless of age and condition. Sometimes the shingles truly are not repairable and the Insurance companies definitely need to improve on accurately identifying those roofs that cannot be repaired and step up to the plate. On the flip side roofing contractors need to be more objective in properly identifying what roofs can or cannot repaired. The host of this channel stated that roofers are not the ones driven by greed but rather its the Insurance companies. I cannot speak for host of this channel but homeowners if you think roofers aren't driven by greed and everything they tell you is honest and true your naïve. They are some of the most greed driven individuals out there. Bottom line homeowners dont be surprised when your see separate wind and hail deductibles that are equal to 1%-2% of the lnsured value on your home show up on your policy. Also dont be surprised when your policy only pays the actual cash value i.e. the depreciated value of your roof based on the roofs age.
@notimportant3686
@notimportant3686 Год назад
well, if shingles have become more advanced in terms of their gluability together then it is entirely possible they are less able to be repaired... if the bond between them is stronger and less capable of being taken apart that would reduce the number of "repairable" roofs... also... i would guess a lot more roofers were WILLING to try to repair roofs, but in the age of the internet, if you try and fail, if you took that risk to repair a roof that maybe really wasn't possible or too difficult, you get your bad reviews from your customers online and your business is fucked.... so i would imagine a hell of a lot less roofers are willing to risk it... look almost all insurance is a scam... it has to be, by design... or the insurance companies couldn't possibly make a profit... so let that be our starting point... the reality

Also, the gentleman who is trying to lift the shingle to show that the roof is repairable is going about it all wrong. Not a very informative video based on your logic. The second instance I agree that the three tab roof surface is unrepairable...no doubt. The State farm adjuster was in way over his head.
