Ramsay was an idiot. If the show was more realistic, he wouldn't have had any supporters and probably would have been assassinated, actually poisoned by his enemies.
Realistic as in how people would react, think and feel about someone like Ramsay. I mean, a lot of people didn't like Roose, but most of them would prefer him as Warden of the North, over Ramsay.
Now i can't stop thinking about Red Wedding with Darude - Sandstorm playing on the background.. RayPall.. gods what a stupid name, who named you? Some half-wit with a stutter?
Super Heroes you reply fast. I was gonna edit my comment but I can't on my phone so I just deleted it instead. Anyway, tywin and Roose would have treated a fat son like shit, though I understand you'd favour them over Randyl purely because they had more screen time to have more epic dialogue
He would absolutely mind a craven. And not looking the part would have been very against Tywin's belief anyways. (Although I imagine Tywin would have put Tarly on a helluva diet.) Oh and Tyrion's mistreatment disproves your entire hypothesis that Tywin would focus on the smart aspect over the physical traits.
Tbh i was disappointed in who they picked for roose bolton... Roose bolton is known for his soft-spokeness and his pale white eyes. This actor has none of that.
***** this roose bolton guys acting doesnt impress me at all. Im just so used to what roose bolton is supposed to act like that everything this guy does is completely out of character and hard for me to accept. Roose wouldnt even troll jaime like this. He knows much better than to fool around with a lannister. A lannister remembers, a lannister pays his debts. Roose did all he could to make sure jaime was comfortable and to make sure he wasnt blamed for jaime being maimed. If anything he was licking jaimes nuts the whole time he was in harrenhall.
I agree, although book Bolton is different. He has a facial expression that equals Octavian from Rome. He talks softly, not loud, but whenever he talks people go silent. He is also generally creepy
Everything about the Boltons is creepy, the name of their Castle (Dreadfort), their sigil, their motto, Ramsay and ofcourse Roose himself with his cold eyes and serial killer voice.
+mondola agreed. It's why I am huge fan of House Bolton and firm supporter. Hope they win the iron throne in the end. Only they can unite the 7 kingdoms and bring peace to the realm.
razveck .................I'm sorry, I'm just imagining Ramsay and Joffrey as cousins...dear god. Tywin could only have hoped for a son like Roose. He's ruthless, cunning, manipulative, has his trolling game on point, and is of normal height (sorry Tyrion) - everything Tywin could ever want in a Lannister heir.
this quote from the book might help you figure it out: "Roose has no feelings, you see. Those leeches that he loves so well sucked all the passions out of him years ago. He does not love, he does not hate, he does not grieve. This is a game to him, mildly diverting. Some men hunt, some hawk, some tumble dice. Roose plays with men. You and me, these Freys, Lord Manderly, his plump new wife, even his bastard, we are but his playthings."
>Roose Bolton - You got trolled bend the knee and admit it. >Jaime Lannister - I got trolled I admit it I got trolled. >Roose Bolton - Your damn right.
Silver Pudding Really? Roose is one of my favorite characters from ASoIaF. Sure he's a bit on the villainy side, but he's cold and calculated without ever indulging in "excessive evilness" like his son. He doesn't care about glory or loyalty or honor, only about living to see the next day. I respect that.
Sci's Gaming Channel Oh, I think he's a well-written character and perfectly developed, but what I meant to say is that I would hate him as a real person.
+ScarletteCastle I will go one further and say that Roose was the REAL HERO of the North. He did his best to counsel Robb on what to do to WIN battles. He wanted to show no mercy to the people who showed no mercy to the Starks. But instead was cast aside and ignored. He did the right thing by killing Robb in order to SAVE lives and prevent more Northern losses in a war they couldn't win. He did what he did to SAVE lives. He wanted to unite the 7 kingdoms and help the people of Westeros. The REAL Roose Bolton would have seen through Ramsay and killed him before he had a chance to strike, then we fans would get treated to the 1v1 fight we DESERVE in 6x09 between Roose and Jon.
They are similar, however 2 key differences. Stannis may be anti-social but he tries to love his wife and child, whilst also having a moral compass, well at least until he got enthralled. Roose is heartless, however he is not a fool and does not do things out of compassion or moral judgement but out of strategic value.
I always wanted a scene with Roose Bolton, Tywin Lannister and Beric Dondarrion having a conversation. They could make a boring discussion about taxes sound epic and badass.
yes well Roose with all his cunning has some supporters and friends ... but Ramsey is a monster , i dont even understand the point of Roose' game , win the north and kill the northmen to give it away to Ramsey its just as stupid as win the war and give iron throne to Joffrey . i guess the "brilliant tacticians" such as Roose and Tywin seem very stupid pass next year events .
***** why if the person u leave it for will bring it down to ashes ... ? just look what cersei has done in single year ...you think ramsey is any better ? first thing he said to his father was he would love to cut of lady dustins teats .... thats quite clever - his only ally and if dustins were gone so would be Ryswells . i wouldnt leave a rock on the bottom the sunset sea for ramsey to take care of . Look i dont argue that Roose isnt scary inteligent guy but if his end game isnt king of north ... all this thing to rule north for a few years ?
Especially as he is more than just a villain. Its one of Martins "tricks" to introduce a bad boy and then make him sympathetic. With Roose he went annother way but he was a very layered "villain". I looked at it that he was a very rough person growing up in unforgiving circumstances. Loyal and helpful to Rob Stark but when Stark made mistake after mistake and kinda fucked everything up he correctly predicted there no chance of winnning anything anymore and changed sides. It makes him not really a villain but a realist. He mirrored Robs failure being mamas boy to the worst political advisor ever in Catelyn Stark. And Roose practical amoral approach would later be his own downfall. A pure villain is also a lot more boring. Thats why at least I myself found Ramsay just not that interesting.
@@listrahtesat most he was only ever loyal to robb because he thought he would win and even then he could have been planning to betray him for a while
@@listrahtes The Boltons and the Starks hated each other for a long time and Roose was always a villain, he didn't become one when he chose to betray Robb. The first night was a tradition where lords or kings were allowed to bang a newly-wed wife before her husband could. It was abolished everywhere except by the Boltons, who still practice it. Ramsay is the product of this, Roose once raped a woman and killed her husband after they got married without his approval. The woman then showed up at the dreadfort later on with Ramsay. Dude was always a scumbag.
I don't think Roose was ever loyal to Robb, he was loyal to himself only. In the books it's indicated that he intended to betray Robb even before he messed up the marriage agreement. He'd stab anyone in the back if it could make his position a bit better. He's also a r@pist and he enables all of Ramsay's atrocities, so he's pretty clearly a villain. @@listrahtes
@@anatoldenevers237 let's leave out the books. In the show he only changes sides after Robb has made some incredible dumb decisions that eliminated his chances to win. At that point it's just game of thrones and not a villain. Other than the Starks everyone does it. Even the stark kids lie and backstab littlefinger. Sure he is a rapist like again most in got. Bronn talks about it and uses forced prostitutes as does Tyrion, imo the Bolton's were so cruel because they had to fight the most violent enemies for a long time like Wildlings and the sea kingdom. Ramsay was the outlier.
In that scene Bolton underlined the word sister to see Jamies reaction. Now he knows, that the rumors about cercei and jamie are true and that Joffrey was his bastard. So it is no "trolling"
***** English Is only my secondary language which contributes to my previous comment being written with poor grammar. But the main reason Is that I wrote that comment at 03.55 AM. PS: I highly doubt that my comment gave you cancer.
***** Changed It, sorry for that minor error. Considering that Im from a country were we don't use PM and AM I would like to say that me mixing up the two Is forgivable, wouldn't you agree? Your jokes are so bad they gave me cancer..
That's precisely what it was. Roose is colder, and more calculated than Tywin Lannister. You'll never see this man leave the room in a rage after arguing with his son, you'd see him troll his son relentless trying to boil his anger over and leave satisfied without a smile on his face.
Andrew Wilcox Well the actor who portrays Roose does have a soft but gruff voice and always talks in a low monotone voice which translates better on screen than a barely audible voice.
IMO Michael McElhatton, along with Charles Dance and Jason Momoa, is the best casting choice for the character. He really brings every aspect of Roose Bolton to life perfectly.
Jason Momoa and Khal Drogho are fucking overrated. All he did in the series was speak in a gibberish language and look tough and in the book he's not a very interesting character either.
The TV Roose is much better than book Roose because the one in the books sounds very cartoonish... pink cloak, long hair and pale face. Its like an anime villain in ghost fighter.
"Roose has no feelings, you see... He does not love, he does not hate, he does not grieve. This is a game to him, mildly diverting. Some men hunt, some hawk, some tumble dice. Roose plays with men."
I imagine this playing out like so many Family Guy gags: *R*"I'm afraid I've been sent your sister's head -" *J*(Horrified gasp) "Of flowers in celebration of her father's victory at Blackwater Bay." (Phew) "Still, not even the finest of flowers could compensate for your father's death -" (Horrified gasp) "-ly gaze; I must confess that it causes me to tremble." (Phew) "Alas, all must tremble in misery at the thought of what befall your innocent little nephew -" (Horrified gasp) "- bird droppings on his head at the victory feast? Most unstately." "PLEASE STOP TALKING!"
SuperTechmarine Vladmir Putin=Roose Bolton. Both loaded with power, both bold, both look alike, both now rule the north, both are sanctioning another's land lol.
+Matheus Lacerda that's, like, a hobby in their house. Absolutely (relatively) normal. Though Roose didn't approve of Ramsay's methods, he did nothing to interfere.
Lord bolton is a ruthless and cunning man, capable of great cruelty. The tywin lannister of the north, kinda. I think he murdered robb personally to pay tribute to his ancestors some way (since they are old enemies). What better way to remove any remaining alliance between the houses then to kill a stark king?
He is nothing like Tywin. He's an ass hole, they hate the Boltons in the North. Plus they attack their allies for no reason then to just be cruel. Eventually the North would throw them out if they were in power long enough.
Young Turk They certainly did not hate them before(not in the near past) or during the war. Roose Bolton was always by Robb's side and Robb and Cat trusted him. For good reason too, since he actually was loyal to Robb up until to the point he saw that he's lost the war and following him any further would only get him killed.
Rafael Aguirre Poroshenko: "President Putin, any news from Kiev?" Putin: "Haven't you heard? The Euromaidan laid siege to the presidential palace, stormed the palace with thousands of men, and president Yanukovich...how can I put this..." Poroshenko: o_O Putin: "Yanukovich is alive and well. He escaped by helicopter." Poroshenko falls to his knees. Putin: "Poroshenko isn't well. Quick, annex Crimea."
+ghoawaynetcabo If someone such as a Bolton knew of Qyburn's superhuman/necromantic level of medicinal skills and what he can create and what he can do for them and what he can do to their enemies, they would've loved him.
Roose characters was amazing. He loves to do stuff like this, but man. Jaime's reaction and his despair is totally underrated here. He lost his hand and was contemplating whether or not to commit suicide. He was literally done with life.
Jaime is the King of Being Trolled. Let's see all the instances of him being trolled: 1)Robb trolling him on the Battle of Whispering Woods and capturing him. 2)Locke trolling him. "Oh, you want supper?" BAM!! *hand cut* 3)Roose the Moose trolling him in this scene 4)Bronn trolling him again and again during all those practises 5)Oberyn trolling him by making him think that Tyrion will be free after he put the spear in the Mountain's chest. 6)Bronn trolling him on the whole journey to Dorne 7)Cersei trolling him by fucking Lancel ,Osmund Kettleburg and the Moonboy for all he knows 8)Blackfish trolling him in the face-off at Riverrun 9)Tommen trolling him by joining the Faith and the Crown 10)Euron Dickboy trolling him practically on all the scenes where they are together 11)Olenna Tyrell trolling her way to death 12)Daenerys and her army trolling him on his way back to KL 13)Cersei again trolling him by ordering the Mountain to kill him and then rescinding back her order
I love the actor who plays Roose Bolton's voice. If he had a podcast talking about how interesting he finds paint drying I would listen to it just for his voice.
I feel the same way about Roose Bolton that I do about Tywin Lannister. They are both amazing characters, portrayed by brilliant actors, and complete badasses to boot. But you can't deny they are both also massive bastards.
Tywin is doing all his terrible things for his family and his legacy since he is so obsessed with it whilst Roose is very much doing terrible things because he is evil
This is actually a technique to give someone broken like Jaime courage to continue. He announces something terrible and then says it was not true. George R.R. Martin actually does that through the Theon and Bran arc. We believe Bran and Rickon are dead, so we're very sad, then when we learn they're actually alive, our joy at the moment makes us even forget the sack of Winterfell.
