Rory with his band, Gerry McAvoy on bass and Ted McKenna on drums, performing a monster version of 'Tattoo'd Lady' at the 1979 Rockpalast festival in Wiesbaden, Germany.
MAGIC.... No matter how many times you see and hear Rory play Tattoo'd Lady, it's different and better each time .. No other live artist captured the imagination, could thrill, excite and electrify an audience like Rory G .. On the way to this gig at Rhein-Main Halle he told a journalist :- "My audiences are into brass knuckle rock and roll. They're the silent majority who just react to the beat. No-one is immune to the prevailing winds of change in music - but all I want to do is get up on that stage and play dirty !".../ This was a great night for rock and roll. It was a wonderful sight to see this soft spoken Irishman turn into a red hot demon on stage .. Mind boggling.... Rory didn't just love music - he lived it..... Thanks a million Rory, for the music and the magical memories...(Watch the whole show - it's brilliant.... Frankie Miller joining our guy for a red hot encore....)...Rory G. An exceptional musician and songwriter. An exceptional human being... MAGIC....❤️✌️🕊️
Jimi Hendrix thought Rory was the best and Jimi was right. I will never forget this concert and 3 others I had the pleasure to attend. I still feel really sorry abour Rory's end.
If you think about egocentric self-promoters in guitar Rock, these men here play their own music for an audience. Rory Gallagher to me was exceptional and fascinating in every way. Thankyou 🌻
He and this genre is the most stellar music. These live acts were coveted over at the time. Everyone wanted this quality of craft and talent, he was so awesome.
Players like Rory dig in and go for out with so much energy that transmits to the audience far more than a lot of supersmooth more technical players. You gotta be wild, dangerous and spontaneous and Rory certainty was that. RIP Rory. A great, humble man of great charity. God rest a true son of Ireland.
Was lucky to watch Rory Free trade Hall Mcr it was the first concert I'd ever seen the performance is still vivid in my memory no lasers or fancy light show just pure genius
Anyone who can do this much violence to a Strat and have it still in tune, is either the greatest guitarist ever, or has the best Strat ever built. Or...maybe both?
Listened to RG since the 70s, saw live in 1990 91, evenvgot to talk to him Years later across the street they were listening to old British rock and I mentioned RG and they slammed him. I just looked at them like WTF came home and blasted RG as loud as possible for the rest of the weekend for their listening enjoyment.
I hope you will soon upload *Rory and Frankie Miller* playing and singing *Walking the Dog* live again. I think it was a Rockpalast recording too. Someone did that already a few years ago but deleted it or at least I can not watch it anymore because of geoblock or something.
When Dick Cavet embarrassed Jimi Hendrix saying you are seen as the greatest guitar player in the world, Jimi said, there is a guy, Rory Gallagher who is the guy you are talking about!
amazingly. I’ve been playing guitar since the 60s. I’ve been in a few bands, this is the first time I’ve ever seen this guy play here in 2024. I hear his style has been copied by following bands in the 80s. I hear other songs that made it big in this song. They copied him
