This is a fault with the system, a lack of team cohesion but not the player that's caught in the middle of it. Saka played left wing back when he started for England, and was brilliant in that position. Play him there with Gordon on the left wing and move Foden to the right side, where he is much more comfortable. Three centre backs, Walker, Stones and Konsa, with Trent at right wing back. Rice in midfield, with Bellingham behind Kane. When we have the ball, both Saka and Trent can attack. Against Switzerland, we need to keep the ball wide. They play a very narrow back four. This can be exploited.

Put Gomez in. Walker stones konsa gomez, that as solid as we can be without mark G

Simple. Rice holding. Only one needed, not two. Foden and Bellingham in the middle. Gordon and Palmer out wide. Saka left back or Shaw if he is fit.

I'd say England's problems are their wide players. One isn't a wide player (Foden) and the other is scared stiff of carrying the ball, giving some respite to the central players, and taking the opposition left back on, in Saka. The shape of our team is so narrow because the wide men are like walls. England play the ball out to them and it rebounds back into the centre. Play Eze and Bowen.

This is another pinnacle of questioning how on earth people take anything Rory says seriously. Even though there are a few (very few) occasions where hes right, all these claims like this are utter tosh. He is putting all Englands issues on Trippier but he is literally a right back being played as a left back. The absolutely worst thing about putting Trippier at LB is that he has an excellent right foot for crossing and doing long passes from the right side. Cutting in from left back is inevitably going to see a subpar Trippier and hes been thrown in that position by the nonsense decision to only pick an injury prone Shaw as LB when he wasnt even fit for the warmup games. The only thing you can complain about with LB is that Southgate didn't set a marker of picking players who were fit for the friendlies.
