Rotten balsa core had to get sorted asap as it has no place on a sailboat. New hatches look awesome and well worth the upgrade.

Nice job on the hatches ... just a tip for the Sicaflex if you come across a stubborn section -- pour isopropyl alcohol over it and give it a few minutes to break down. The alcohol with soften up the Sikaflex to make it much easier to pry away or dig into for accessory removal.

Nice work! Top tip; use a plastic bag, like where you freeze stuff In, fill it with epoxy, cut a small bit of a corner and fill any void like a pro without air pockets!

Alex if you need to do that job again, try using a piping bag (or just a plastic bag with a corner cut out. Easy to squeeze the mixture in with. cheers

I did give it a try to start with but was too hard to get into the deeper parts unfortunately. It a very good method though and a lot less messy!

Love this episode!!! Wouldn't it be possible to create a grid of holes on the deck or soft areas and inject penetrating epoxy then thickened epoxy into that part of the core? I am thinking of doing that to my boat, but you have more experience with this than I do.

The main thing is getting all the moisture out before you do anything. The epoxy can’t soak if it’s already wet.

Tried I with my 1972 Catalina 22...end up with a bunch of epoxy pellets. No getting around cutting off deck and replacing wood with new wood or similar and replacing top deck panel.

Cleaner yes but I did try but was impossible to get into the deeper parts unfortunately!

i think it was just epoxy resin ? Then he used the thickend epoxy with glass.

ADVICE: I'm just updating my YT mobile settings and discovered you need to change your video to NOT CONTENT FOR KIDS! The reason is that YT won't push new video release alerts out to subscribers when you've enabled this classification.
