I watched this whole build. I really appreciate your “less is more” narration style. You are an old soul and this build is inspirational and…..dead sexy!

i just watched the entire Roubo series and am so impressed. you made a truly beautiful AND useful work bench and one day I hope to accomplish the same thing. My attention keeps getting drawn to the houndstooth dovetail. well done!

Watched lots and lots of Roubo bench builds, yours is an awesome bench. Something to be incredibly proud of! Would like to know the person who gave you a thumbs down, obviously a truly unhappy person. Thanks again!

I like that your moxon vise is where it is on the other joinery bench. Nice set up!

It’s worked out really nicely this way! I plan to make another detached moxon for big panels on the roubo at some point. A hi-vise is on the list as well.

Just watched the Roubo bench series. Nicely done. I am in the design process for my own after building a new shop this past summer (2020). Subscribed. Work safe.

Subbed! I’m getting my shop set up and your workbench series is very inspiring, I’m planning on building a budget bench of some kind, then a roubo when I acquire more skills! Keep it up with the excellent content!!!

Gramercy Holdfasts issue: I had the same problem. I took a metal file and roughened up the opposing edges where they contact the top and bottom surfaces of the top. It helped a little. I will try roughing them up a little more and see if there is an improvement. Also, the portable vice jaws for clamping boards to the side of the bench-very clever and I will make a set. Thanks.

You bet! Glad you Liked it! I didn't have any luck until I counterbored 2" from the underside with a 1-1/2" forstner. Thanks Joe 🙏

You've said you haven't been doing this all that long. What did you do before? What prompted you to go into this. Your videos are great as I've noted in the past when I commented on your Rolex!:D Looking for new stuff dude! I don't believe I've missed a video. Anxious for what you have going now! Happy Holidays too!

Interested to know how you rate the Gordon wagon vice vs the Benchcrafted. The Gordon seems much more straightforward to install and looks like it doesn't need dovetails on the end joint to counteract the force of the vice. Simpler to me seems more elegant. So I guess my question is whether the operation and utility of the Benchcrafted is superior enough to the Gordon to be worth the extra time and effort it takes to install it.

Your "sexy" bench is... beyond words - but Amazing will have to suffice for now. Really appreciated the rational behind the choices throughout your bench build. Enjoyed your shop tour. Having just found your channel, I have to go look, but if you do not yet have a build/rational behind the choices about how/why you built it this way vids for the jointing bench which has that lovely moxon vice on it, would love to see that...even if it's just a guided tour of that bench. Thanks!

What's your opinion on the Lie Nielsen ductile holdfasts vs the Gramercy holdfasts?
@SawyerDesign
@SawyerDesign 3 года назад
The grammercy are great in my thinner holtzapffel, but I find the lie Nielsen hold more reliably and release easier. Especially in the roubo (4” top)

Hey Nick! This is great! I really enjoy watching you come up with really interesting projects! I really like the way you have arranged your shop! I have a few questions regarding the other bench which has the moxon vise in it: can you tell me how high and how deep is the bench? Did you build it with hard wood? Thanks!
@SawyerDesign
@SawyerDesign 2 года назад
It’s all white oak. The bench sits at 38” high (I’m 6’) and is 18” deep. Nice for most stuff, though I would like a standalone moxon for big case work

Any issues with the dog strip in the second lamination between the tenons? I'm trying to design a bench and using a lot of features from yours, Matt Estlea, and the Benchcrafted design. Matt put his dog strip in the 3rd lamination because he was concerned about putting the clamping force through the first lamination where it would potentially pass through the end grain/edge grain joint at the first (dovetail) tenon. I can't figure out why he was concerned with that. There is a pretty nice purchase between the faces of the first, 2nd, and 3rd laminations before you get to the leg. It seems like that glue joint should be sufficient to handle the clamping forces. It's basically what you've done. I am thinking about adding some dominos in that spot to provide a solid mechanical joint just to be safe. I'm not sure if it's necessary though. Sorry for the long question.

What’s the heights of your joinery bench vs your Roubo?
@SawyerDesign
@SawyerDesign 3 года назад
I believe there’s a 6” difference. Joinery bench is set at about 42” and the roubo is 34”. I’m 6’ if that gives any reference

I assume we spent two or 300 hours on that bench build but you don’t have two hours to build your own wooden mallet? I do love the bench and it was what made me subscribe to your channel.
