Routemaster bus on a skid pan (not Chiswick) as part of a challenge on the show 'Don't Try This at Home'. Presented by Davina MacCall. Not sure of the year - early 90's?
Great entertainment, but this was done every day at the London Transport Driver Training Centre at Chiswick. It was to give every Trainee Driver the "seat of the pants" feeling of what it was like to lose control, and how to correct the situation, and use "cadence braking" to stop the bus in a straight line It is not done anymore. The Dublin Bus Operator, CIE, had an identical training system. Well done to the lady, she will never forget that.
I would love to do this as i am a Bus Enthusiast and have never been able to drive a Bus but this used to a Every day thin up until 1986 When the closed down the Bus Driver training school at Chiswick Works in London.
