Excellent video. 71 yo here. Competed for about 15 years a lifetime ago. And still, my heart was racing, my body sat upright, and my feet planted themselves flat on the floor while watching this. The rowing was perfection and beautiful to watch. What a thrill.
He also did a slightly longer run due to the way the finish was - if he had gone straight like the rowers, rather than following the path, he would have won.
@@brendanredler3666 And the crew had cold water and possibly other conditions they had to deal with, such as a headwind or current or whatever else. With decreasing, water temperature viscosity increases faster than density and thus the corresponding hull skin friction coefficient increases. All in all, it was fair - not too mention they could've raced an 8.
@@emilypimlott6867 It's way easier to run in colder weather (performance wise) as opposed to hot and humid wise. However, it is way harder to row in colder weather as opposed to weather wise. Besides the 4 boat is not the fastest. it was fair - no point for a bunch of what if's.
Hah i rowed against Patrick Lackner at the junior worlds in the junior quad, i was in the Danish quad that made it to the A-Final. Funny how you see familiar faces around after big competitions.
I thought so too. if that is true then that would've have slightly increased the runner's difficulty. Also the runner was not visible from the water. Rematch! :-)
I don't know how good the rowers are, but the runner ran a respectable time. He wouldn't win any medals with that, but he wouldn't embarrass himself at a high school track meet (at least the meets that I've been to).
Wow, they have so much power and condition. I was rowing in the early 90's and was only at one Regatta and with a mate in double raycing rowing boot we got the first place and on a single boot i get the last place only because i was on the wrong line-up so they where older and better, no chance and no wonder i only could loose and was totaly frustrated till my trainer said, well done boy you are only 2-4 sec. slower then the others and get me the information, that i was rowing at the wrong line-up. My heart was already ok again!^^ Never forget how i lost and could'nt understand, why the others are better and faster than me! haha xD
I am a rower myself but you can see by the km/h that the runner was going faster the entire time and somehow lost? If you wanted the rowers to win just get an eight. Other than that great video and the editing was amazing.
How you learnt was right. You can clearly see the guy at position 1 has a pretty short stroke and struggles to keep up the highstrokerate (38-40 in a race is really high, so you cant blame him!) But after 6minutes of suffering your muscles just literally stop working, and it gets really hard to stay upright and all that stuff..
Rematch with a pack of four runners working together please. And get someone on a bike filming the runners! And for some real hilarity, do a switched race where the runners get the boat, lol.
Did the runner have to go uphill for the last hundred meters? Whatever the case, I thought the rowers would have an advantage as they work as a team and row on still waters as opposed to running on rough grounds. But what do I know ... Good video!
Regardless of current, rowers face much more resistance than runners. They have to move a big heavy boat through the water. If you've ever tried walking or running through water you would notice a HUGE increase in resistance compared to running through air. That's what we're talking about here.
As both a runner and a rower I had mixed feelings about whom I wanted to win. As I am getting older it is easier on my body to row--but let's face it there were four in the boat.
That's completely unfair as the runner had to go slightly to the right on the last part and therefore had to run further. This is shown by his faster pace for the entire race anyway!!
How is a dude out running a mens quad rowing at a 38??? I tried to run beside a 2nd varsity youth quad and I died trying to keep up for 2k and the 2v quad was a minute slower than the 1v
The runner has always the higher speed, i think that he did more than 2000m because it is impossible that he didnt win :D He didnt run in a straight line
The speed of the runner & the stroke rate of the rowers is interpolated. This is the reason. I only had the exact speed & pulse value of the rowers every second.
...Please compare pears to pears and apples to apples: a 4 row boat is much faster than a 1 row boat. If we put a single paddler (single boat-one paddler) the runner wins by easy 20 seconds. A cordial greeting.
hä der läufer musste am ende n weg zur seite laufen, seit ihr sicher der ist langsamer gewesen? aber trotzdem kompliment, wer ne 6:15 bei den bedingungen fährt
It's " rowers" win...I am a runner and biased. So I will say running wins because, I can run to the store and buy beer...not many that Can row do that..lol...good video.
No as its harder for them if anything the runner should've actually won because he has less resistance in the air than rowers have in the water this from a rower and runner
My maximum heart rate now is around 206-210 too. When I was 20 years old, my heart rate record was 240bpm in a 200m swimming race. Of course, it's dangerous.
