nice one zach. i wanted to share my thanks for your channel. i'm a fourth year rafter and have really appreciated all the insight and teaching you bring to the sport. i grew up on the sea waterskiing, kayaking and sailing so understood water generally, but your videos have really helped me with reading water, rapid navigation/strategy, stroke mechanics, rigging, group management and everything other bit of minutae and nuance when it comes to boating. went on my first rogue last july and i cleaned mule creek canyon through some crazy boils (i don't think i fully grasped what boils even were or could be): oars didn't touch a single rock. felt like flow state for sure. that wouldn't have happened without your channel and your stellar oar shipping tutorials! appreciate you and the channel and hope to make it up to the illinois one day soon. ps. blossom bar went fine too but definitely not clean

What a beautiful day to be on the Illinois! That one caught a boat in our group by surprise in the 90's, as I imagine it often does. Love that R, at that flow or slightly higher.

That left side of the final drop is super cool, you don't need to make another oar stroke once you drop in

I had the same thought! I’ve often wondered about a downstream ferry from center moving river left there, but right to that left side seems to work too.

Have you run that rapid? There are a lot of ways to get stuck in there. Since there is a long recovery pool we increase our spacing to avoid collisions.
