Amazing voice. Did anyone else notice the backup vocals singing out of tune a few times? Roy stayed in perfect tune regardless! Just a true voice of an angel
Wonderful performance by Orbison, despite the rather rude introduction ("Grandfather" of rock'n'roll?? So disrespectful of this iconic musical genius). Followed by poor audio quality and feedback, though they finally straightened that out. I also believe that Roy was not overly pleased with the musicianship of that Original Star Trek aliens backing band. On "Pretty Woman" I definitely heard the drummer (and hence the whole band) continually speeding up through the whole song. And then having the nerve to prance around on stage playing air guitar at the same time? WTF? Maybe I am just being a bit picky, but Roy Orbison deserves better.
To say somebody is the "father" of some style or movement, as in, "The Father of Rock n Roll", is a compliment. To say somebody is the "Grandfather of Rock n Roll" is an ignorant insult spoken by somebody (Jonathan Ross) who probably had no idea who Roy Orbison was before he was on the show that night. And then... to try to upstage Orbison with his idiotic air guitar dance, ugh. It's like he can't stand the guest having the spotlight for a few minutes.
I don't think so. In my opinion, by "grand father" he means that Roy belong to the forst generation of rock. And so, this program was in 80's (so at this time, the third generation of rock).
