No better motorbike for country roads . So good in the corners . Really brings the fun back to motorbike riding. Perfect for town filtering. The sound is so distinct you know when an interceptor is heading your way before you see it .

I’ve got the hi flow filter and 2-1 on my Interceptor. I weigh 300 lbs. I’m a huge dude. Me riding 1 up is like most people riding 2 up. And the Interceptor has NO PROBLEM getting into some spirited riding. Also no problems on the US interstate roads (closer to your M roads but faster speeds)

Thx, I am 6.2' and 245lbs. I should be fine. I sat on one at the dealership. Dimensions are fine. To my surprise I fit quite well on the GT as well. good to know that the power is adequate. I had a Suzuki GS550 back in the 1980s and that really had all the power that I needed. The INT is probably similar.

had my interceptor bout 12 months, love it, had after market cans when I got it, sounds awesome, fitted a wee screen (I'm getting on a bit) best thing tho was fitted a 16 tooth sprocket on the front, massive difference on open road. I've got 3 other bikes all quicker than this but it still puts a smile on my face when I take it out.!! Great bike, Its a keeper!!!

Well done, a good example of the Interceptor’s capabilities. When I was a cycling teenager living in a rural village, we drooled over an older lad’s (still a teenager) Triumph Bonneville 650 T120. We would listen out for him returning from work just to see and here the bike, in the knowledge that it was one of the fastest bikes ‘in the world’ (we were teenagers 😉). For context, a good example of that era Bonneville was producing mid 40’s bhp………. With today’s ever diminishing speed limits, the Interceptor is an ideal everyday bike. The sales figures and solid used values would suggest that Royal Enfield have identified just that and developed their own slot in the market to support the theory. Keep ‘em coming…

Thank you so much for this video! I have been on the fence about one of these bikes. Had an earlier bullet 500..... liked it, but when I moved to where I am now, ( south Carolina low country ., all straight roads and everyone driving at least 70mph.....) the disadvantage of acceleration with the old bullet would have meant my death. So, some times you must accelerate for safety. This was my last stumbling block. Thank you again, this video was incredibly useful, just phoned the dealership and told them to get mine ready!!!!!!

I have been riding for over 55 years. Currently have two Moto Guzzis but have owned Ducatis, Laverdas, Moto Morini, Suzuki, BSA, Triumph, Indian, Kawasaki, Zundaps, BMWs. The point of my post is to suggest to stay off the dark middle patch on the highway, especially in the wet. This is where oil from millions of previous vehicles have been deposited. Anticipation and positioning are the two most important laws to embrace when riding motorcycle. Anticipate that cars either do not see you or do not respect you and will compromise your lane position or pull out in front of you without regard to safety concerns. Position your bike to allow you an escape space when cars drift into your lane or claim they do not see you in their rearview of sideview mirrors. Great video by the way--mike

Just watched a video on fortnine which compared engine durability based on particulate matter building up in the oil. Most major brands were compared. To my amazement, Royal Enfield came top with the least, with BMW a very close second. Harley came bottom, with particulate matter about 20 times worse than the Royal Enfield. This is a marque that deserves full credit, and long may it remain affordable. A good choice for a person who just wants a quality bike, with good handling and reasonable performance.

I agree, probably I m not dull. 😂Riding since 1987 , I had a lot of bikes, also canons. In 21 I sold my RT and bought a GT. Still have it and it will stay. I still love it and it is one of my best bikes. Damn good engine. Not a lot of HP, but the engine is well made. If you want, like you show hear, it goes pretty fast. This machine wants you to ride it, not the machine that rides with you. Weather you have 48 horse power or 120, the wind will be the same and try to hold on 130 km/h on any naked😮😂, for hours.

Hey, great videos. Just a question with the high flow air filter. Stinger exhaust have you installed a fuelx or power commander device. I was wondering if you run this setup would you be running very lean and hot engine. I'll be very interested if you can shine some light on the power commander.

I have a continental as a commuter. I also have a BMW R Nine T. They R Nine is is a different league it weighs 5Kg less ,nearly three times the power and much more torque. But as an every day rider it is too much. These bikes on the other hand are just right for UK roads. 40-50bhp is a lot more fun, you can use the gears all the power and revs. The R Nine is breaking the speed limit by mid revs in 2nd.
@nicksepisode
@nicksepisode Год назад
Yeah I'm quite partial to that boxer engine having owned a 1200 gs. Such a fantastic bike and heaps of power, more than I'll ever need. But like you say, and I totally agree; you can have a lot more fun on a smaller bhp bike.
@Grumpy-Goblin
@Grumpy-Goblin Год назад
Good video Nick, the real headbangers will never find it fast enough but for anyone who values their life and their licence it's plenty fast enough IMHO. You can have loads of fun on these smaller bikes, I've currently got a CBF1000 and recently acquired a cb500X which is not a fast bike but it's light, nimble with a peppy little engine and never fails to put a smile on my face I can throw it around and take liberties with it much more than I can with the 1000 so it has become my "go to" bike for pretty much every day. The only time I would take the 1000 by preference is if I was going to be doing a lot of Motorway miles where the big engine is just a lot more relaxed sustaining high speed over long distance.
@nicksepisode
@nicksepisode Год назад
Yeah absolutely, if Jo and I was at a stage where we can tour, I would buy an additional bike for that. but the interceptor would still get used more as short journeys and commuting is mainly what I do and this bike does those very well, and putting a massive grin on your face too :D

I almost bought one for my first street bike. I thought it may be a little underpowered for the expressway, not that it wouldn't keep up but I wanted extra headroom in case I needed it for an escape path. The brakes were reported as squishy on some reviews. The levers and handgrips could be better quality. I am not saying it's a bad bike. One thing was the local Enfield dealer where I live just left a bad taste in my mouth and I didn't want to do business with him. The next closest dealer was over an hour away. I settled on the Kawasaki Z650RS which is being delivered this week. It's still a very approachable bike for a beginner. I think it will give me some room to grow. Actually if the local dealer acted decent I may have been talked into buying the int650 and I do think it looks cool. I think we use a different word than knob here in the states.

This is the question that I want addressed when it comes to the affordable, comparitively underpowered bike - can I ride it every day? In most of the US (and I assume many areas in other countries) realistically you are NOT going to be exclusively in an "urban environment," you WILL need to spend some time on the freeway/interstate for every day commute. This isn't a matter of touring, it's a matter of 30-60 minutes at a time at speeds between 65-75 mph. That is the every day commute for 90% of people who do not live in a metropolitan area; that's what it means to be an everyday bike. Not a weekend jaunt in "the twisties," not "track day," not "stoplight to stoplight," not "off road capable, "not "bar hopping"; being able to ride, everyday, 2-4 hours a day, at speeds up to 75mph, and not have the bike wrung out to its limit nor punish the rider for that amount of time. That's the "brass tacks" of what people NEED to know, and too many reviewers talk about everything else. So thank you.

More than capable of cruising at the speeds you state. Add a free flow filter and that adds a bit to the bottom and midrange. I changed the whole exhaust system and that removes a massive amount of weight and the straight through pipes boost your power all throughout the delivery. My commute used to be 120 minutes and my 2020 Int coped perfectly.

Watching your tach as you merged onto the dual carriage way confirmed what my ears were hearing… you’re shifting well before you’ve exhausted the 650’s power band. So even though your video made a point… it could have done so more emphatically had the shifts come later. If folks try riding it like a Harley and keeping the revs low it might seem boring to them. But if you shift up closer to 7 grand and do your spirited riding in the 4-5 grand cruising range, the bike becomes way more eager to please.

I get that the meteor lacks that acceleration buzz but this bike is as fast as anyone needs. Might not be as fast as they want but its as fast as they need. I never get people saying 500 and 600cc bikes aren't quick enough. How fast do people actually need to ride.

Handclocked 6.57 Nick on 0-60. Not that it or the Topspeed really matters on a bike like this. It´s not an Supersport. By the way question to the critics. With which 650cc Euro 5 retro motorcycle do you want to compare. There is the Kawasaki Z650RS wich is a Modern Classic not even a Retro, Mash Six Hundred Retro, Mash Dirt Track and otherwise nothing on the Market and both Mash are for sure slower than the Interceptor

I took a demonstrator out,2023 model and was impressed by the smoothness,gearbox and front brake. But i did find it too under powered for a 650, I've had 3 versions of the yamaha 350B,LC and YPVS and they handled, braked and accelerated way better back in 1980s with higher top speed. This RE 650 is a pleasantly adequate bike, but boring. Please do not patronise older people about maybe wanting an Interceptor in their dotage. I've had my Ducati 916cc Sport Touring for 16 yrs now and 100,000 kms. At 70 yrs old, Nothing,but nothing comes close in every dept,Character,looks,sound,acceleration (100mph in 6 secs) road holding etc. Just tell it like it is, value for money pleasant looking learner bike for newbies, do not assume that it will have "sufficient acceleration and performance for everyone", I found that demonstrator ride wanting on a dual carriageway,planning my overtaking well in advance.

Not everyone needs that sort of power or really should be using it for overtaking. I get the appeal of going past people in seconds if you're impatient but if this bike isn't fast enough then I feel sorry for 90% of car owners.

I hate when bike reviewers call a bike boring. Oh this super reliable bike wont let you kill yourself due to it having modern safety standards? THE HORROR! The worst is when people talk about the Ryker being boring... one of the main complaints these nimrods say about that motorcycle is that it wont let you lift the wheels up? WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO? Another one of my favorite moto-youtubers rides scooters with a third of the displacement of your Interceptor all over the US, talking 2-3000 mile journeys going at an optimistic 55ish MPH with a tail wind in his favor. The way some of the reviewers review things is akin to calling a fish stupid due to its inability to climb a tree, and its a major problem, imo. That being said... If a bike cannot do 85+ MPH I cannot use it for my region of Texas, people go well in excess of that on the regular. Just the other night heading home, I was riding 90ish, and someone drove passed me so quickly all I know it was some sort of SUV, I couldnt even tell you the color, as it was just a blur. (speed limit is 75)

I consider my Interceptor's running RPM to be medium to low by today's standards. With the improved metals, short stroke engine design, piston timing and especially with today's vastly improved lubrication, what used to be redline (5,500 RPM) now feels silky smooth. At no RPM does my engine vibrate or feel like its is "wound out" or straining. I've worked on Harleys and yes they are what you are talking about RPM wise, but I vastly prefer the smoothness of my Enfield.
