I am in no way selling a weapon in this video, nor even using any weapon. This is simply a review of an historical firearm.
Hello all, its World of the Arms here. I decided to try my chances again and buy a 1870-87-15 Italian Vetterli from RTI (Royal Tiger Imports). I bought one while they were on sale for $200. I also paid for a hand select fee for $100. Shipping was $50. I paid $350 total for the firearm. In this video I will go over what I received from them.

Bought mine from the same sale in September! My bore looks great, I need to start reloading in order to shoot it!

Good review. I was in South America that weekend, and awoke one morning to an RTI email advertising that deal. At $199, couldnt pass that up. I didnt do the hand select option, and I think I got lucky. Mines stock is fully intact, just has the expected dings. Cleaned up real nicely. I love the idea that it may have seen more then 70 years of service. Cool rifle.

Thanks! Yeah it was pretty much a no brainer lol. It seems to be luck of the draw even if you get the hand select. Glad you got a nice example too! Same here, i like the history that they have behind them.

Cool find! That knurled ring on the back of the bolt can be backed out a bit if the trigger pull is a total dog. I have loaded for that and PPU makes excellent, stout cases that can be loaded multiple times. Bullets to avoid are the typical military Carcano heavies like the one that was used to assassinate JFK. You cannot tame the pressure using them tho the twist rate might be right for that weight ball.

Thanks! Yeah, luckily the trigger is very nice on mine! Also, thanks for the info!

Awesome video- was looking into getting a berdan rifle from them- but the ammo availability would be- a big no.

Thanks! I would love to get a regular length Berdan II too, but I don't know if I want to pull the trigger on it yet. I get you on the ammo availability too. I am going to get into reloading as I have far too many firearms now that have very obsolete cartridges.

Was yours from the $199 flash sale? I got two and was very pleased. One was a rare Versione X variant.

Yes mine was from the flash sale! I should've got another to be honest. And you really cant beat that!

It's not that these couldn't handle the loads, when it was originally done, but that they couldn't do "hot fire" or be used fast enough to get real hot. Problem today, is you've no idea how much and how it was used. Mine doesn't have the gas leakage, shown in some videos here. I've been knocking down the load in factory PPU to about 30gr. I actually had some load data for these.
@worldofthearms6976
@worldofthearms6976 Год назад
Yeah, that and I guess alot of the chambers in these guns got pretty rusty over time and dont have the material they used to have. And really? You've had good luck with that load? No squibs or stress cracks?
@charlene2400
@charlene2400 Год назад
@@worldofthearms6976 no problems yet. 6.5 carcano was a low psi round, even for the era. In breaking down ppu ammo, it comes out to 41gr of whatever powder they use. So, I'm running about 75% of an already less than military loading. I've seen folks run a 50% load, but I'd worry about ignition. From what I can tell, the outer barrel and liner, are very different steels, hence the rust. If shot fast enough to get hot, the metals expand at different rates, possibly letting moisture in, and causing a rust bulge in between the parts. BP and Pyrodex would be safer, but I'd worry about that corrosive residue getting between things.

@@charlene2400 Thanks for the reply! That's a good bit of information! That puts my mind at ease with your shooting experience with the Vetterli!

It cleaned up real good. Was it a B grade?

Couldn't you load a cartridge using something like triple7 or another black powder substitute? Or would that not provide enough pressure to ensure the bullet left the barrel.

@@Sure_You_Betcha i recently got one very very similar to how this one is. same year and everything. id like to shoot it but havent had a chance to do any research on loading for it.

@justanelite as a general rule, it seems the rule of thumb is just down load the smokeless powder... Either no one else has had the idea to use a black powder su substitute or the idea just doesn't work for some reason I am unaware of.

i might be able to work a load up. do you want me to let you know if i can get something worked out?
