I personally thought that Kauffman stadium was one of the coolest and most unique stadiums in the league- both with the layout of the stadium and I think it' really cool how it's kind of in the middle of nowhere which gives it a rural vibe. I know nothing in terms of the infrasturcture or fan satisfaction with it though so if a new stadium is needed, I digress.
Sherman and Populous are LYING about the concrete at Kauffman, and there's no way we should reward them with a hotel, apartment and convention center disguised as a stadium (so we'll pay for it, but see none of the profits). This is a land-grab, from people who actually work for a living in Kansas City, and it's shameful. Save Kauffman. Save the Crossroads. VOTE NO.
This looks amazing. A couple things: 1) Kansas City is “the city of fountains.” That’s why there is so much emphasis on water features. 2) MLB is doing some real awesome stuff with integrating into the city. I always think it’s better when you don’t necessarily know that there’s a ball park while you’re walking around. The thing about these ball park villages is that the team ownership isn’t just in the business of sports, it’s real estate. They put these buildings up and collect rent or profits from hotels and restaurants. It’s the McDonald’s method. Sure they make profits from the consumer, but they REALLY make profits from their franchisees, collecting their rent and taking a cut from food and material orders.Sports owners are doing the same thing; collecting rent from office and restaurant leases and taking a cut from hotel bookings (assuming that they let a big hotel company run that business). 3) I can’t wait to see the finished product. I hope more stadiums take note out of this book. I love the integration of architecture rather than the distribution of architecture.
I agree; if they could at least add one spiral walkway & put a crown in the outfield as the score board then we’re good. I agree with everything you said. Change is needed.
I'm hoping they keep a rounded exterior like Kaufman Stadium and bring along the logo scoreboard to the new stadium. The latest concept art just seems a blend of other ballparks

6:36 Everyone is **TOTALLY OVERLOOKING** The walkway/pond area between T-Mobile and the stadium. The park is all new and acts as a tunnel since it will cover up 1-70 and it will run underneath it. Awesome!
I think the East Village location was better. More opportunity for parking and less local businesses impacted. But if this gets Sherman to invest and actually try and build a winner than give him his new fucking stadium 50/50 split with a long commitment to KC is fair deal.
I like this design, especially the way it fits into downtown, always a good thing with stadiums, imo. It doesn't seem like there's much parking. What's the public transportation situation like in that area?
There is a ton of existing parking, so no need to add more. The bridge over the park leads to all the same garages that are used for the arena and P&L entertainment district. Transit in KC is not great outside of downtown, but downtown does have a tram that is currently being expanded all the way to UMKC that will also serve KC's other primary urban business districts like Crown Center and the Country Club Plaza which have tons of hotels and parking garages as well. So you could park just about anywhere in the central city and take the tram (streetcar). There is also a bus transit center nearby. Most of all, it's walkable from dozens of hotels and thousands of residents and workers, so fewer people should be parking.
I feel like new stadiums are incorporating more outfield seating, to have social lounges/spaces for people to hang out at. Then the rest of the stadium can be just for fans who want to stay in their seats. This could help a lot with group sales tickets/afterparty tickets or something like that
It needs a full time tenant though like an NHL team. I’ve been beating this drum for years from the other end of the state. Wanna see a regular season game there vs. the Blues!
This is the best possible location for the stadium. Perfect that it ties in nicely with the T-Mobile Center and the P&L district. I was at the Chiefs parade today near there and was imagining how cool it will be to go to games at the new stadium.
The best possible location is exactly where Kauffman currently sits. There is not nearly enough room in the Crossroads ARTS district for a silly little baseball stadium. Vote NO on April 2nd!
I love the fountain in the outfield with the seats over them. That's freaking awesome! I just wished they kept the royal scoreboard, with the crown on top.
I don't think it's "that" small. They said it would seat around 35k. Most MLB stadiums that have huge upper decks are barely used but a few times a year or playoffs.
+ love the CF & LF fountains. An improvement over Kauffman's fountains! + Decent LF skyline & cool building views in RF - hate the 3B gap because it's such a waste or prime infield seating. - The upper deck is small like PNC Park. 30,000 capacity is concerning.
Can't imagine what the season ticket holders think, they're taking away 2 huge aspects of the K. The ease of parking and group tailgating will be gone forever. Not sure why there wasn't an uproar locally but guess fans feel it's useless. I'd at least like to see them pay the money required to field a competitive team first. The K still looks great and just doesn't make sense
Such an odd take, on most of your videos you complain about a “wall of seats” In the upper deck. Now that there isn’t a wall of seats now there’s “no seats in the upper deck” how much is too many? How few is too few?
Kauffman will always be an iconic ballpark. Birthed from that more cookie cutter era of MLB ballparks, but grew into it's own with the remodel in 2009. Definitely needs that Crown Vision scoreboard, though. That's half of what makes the Royals iconic- fountains, and the crown. I'm all for this new ballpark after going to Busch and seeing their downtown baseball complex, and I'm not too concerned with parking as we have the tram that goes through downtown
@@toddalexander1903yea there’s a lot of push back due to the stadium bulldozing over the arts district, infrastructure concerns with parking and transportation (the stadium workers would need to be bussed in from miles away with the lack of parking and that doesn’t include how downtown already has terrible parking for the T-Mobile Center and adding 82 baseball games directly adjacent from it would push the infrastructure’s capabilities to its maximum), and many just think it’s a ridiculous investment for a team that’s consistently one of the worst in the league. Overall, not very many locals are in love with the idea, in fact, I have yet to know one of us who even likes it
Really hope that water gets a deep royal blue and isnt just white foam as the batter eye lol. I'd love to see it be one of those reverse water falls where the water shoots upward to the next level like how Disney has. Great vid as always!
I like the stadium design. It looks like there are also a lot of flat platforms that can be used for temporary seating during playoffs. MLB is so dumb though. They have a 180 game season because they want to sell lots of tickets, then they can't fill the stadium because there's too many games, so teams have to build smaller stadiums.
To be fair, it's not waterfalls it's fountains. Silly correction I know, but KC is considered the "city of fountains." I have dragged my feet with the new stadium, the K is kind've like my cathedral, so I'm really gonna miss it, but I do like this updated render. I like the walk way to T-mobile and adding a lot of greenery in an area of KC that doesn't have a lot. Obviously stadiums never ended up 1 to 1 with their renders but I do like what it seems they're going for.
You and I both.. I'm going to miss the crown scoreboard, its iconic. This new ballpark looks nice but other than the fountains there isn't anything distinctive about it unfortunately. It doesn't look like the Royals home without a Crown. Also, parking is going to be a pain in the ass & expensive. I also wonder how family friendly this new ballpark is going to be?
I like the the smaller, more compact stadiums aesthetically and it’s beneficial to the experience of going to a ballgame - but the ticket prices are going to be hard to stomach.
Absolutely voting against this. 1. There is nothing wrong with the structural integrity of Kauffman Stadium. Two different independent investigations say so. 2. The Crossroads is an ARTS district, not a sports district. Enough said. 3. The "new jobs" that are promised won't be brand new jobs, just displaced from all the former businesses. 4. There won't be nearly enough parking. KC, do the right thing and VOTE NO APRIL 2ND. Tell Sherman to shove it!
I get they want to move it to a better location, but I'll miss Kauffman Stadium since it always was such a visually cool park. But I hope they can capture some of that magic in a new park. Incorporate a few elements from Kauffman into the new stadium to make it familiar, keep fountains, maybe a crown on the scoreboard to name a few.
This is a big improvement....uniqueness and fan experience is key. Make it a place people want to travel to while also making it comfortable for locals. First ones shown looked generic and boring, this looks great. Seems like it'd be a fun place to go
A few questions about this. Is this updated because it says 3 months ago. The tax thing did not pass so I didn’t think they were going to build it. My other question is where is the parking going to be.
The Royals don't need a new stadium. They need a new owner. The new stadium will be empty, just like their stadium now. They need to spend money on the team. Or it will be all for not.
I would love if the new Royals stadium had both the fountains like they had before the current stadium redesign riuned it, and also have the big Royals crown scoreboard, because to me ICONIC!
The seating around the waterfall seems like they are going for a giant crown shape. If they are, I hope they make it look more convincing than they do in this rendering.
Most of us here in Kansas City are sick and tired of 'Billionaire Beggars' like John Sherman expecting the taxpayer's to pay for their toys and playgrounds. A downtown ballpark in KC will NOT work. Traffic and parking are already a nightmare and throw in the crime element. The K is just fine and the Royals need to stay there. And hopefully the bond/tax issue will fail.
I go to Kansas City Mo every summer I’m from Erie Pennsylvania about 895 miles away I drive there every year it usually takes me 14 hours I only loved Kauffman due to the beautiful stadium and better parking I don’t want to see a new stadium. The K is not even close to 100 years old while there’s wrigley field and Fenway park is over 100 years old
I think abandoning Kauffman stadium for this or any other downtown stadium is a huge un-fanfriendly mistake. There is nothing wrong with Kauffman stadium. It is easily accessible by automobile, at the junction of two interstate highways, for a fan base that stretches across five states and a sprawling metropolitan area. With a winning team on the field the Royals would draw 2.5 to 3 million attendance, which should satisfy even the greediest of owners. Moving to a downtown location is doing the fans no favor. Very few people live in downtown Kansas City and adequate public transportation is non-existent. Access to the stadium via automobile will be a nightmare. Parking for thousands will necessitate a mile long hike to and from the ballpark along dark city streets. Many will say "no thanks" and just stay home and watch TV. At least the TV ratings will increase. I know other teams have success with downtown ballparks, but cities like Chicago and Boston among others have contributing factors not present in KC. Do your fans a favor Royals, renovate the current stadium if you want, but forget about downtown. At least until Kansas City joins the 21st century.
No more money for Royals stadium improvements or new stadium until the Royals bring back antenna tv access for locals to watch away games. The Royals are un-American for forcing locals to buy cable and a Bally premium package to watch them. How is this possible when MLB operates free from antitrust law?
They don't build parks any more than look like places you go to see a baseball game. The parks are a little over the top and give you the impression it's more important than the game. Except Oriole Park.
What’s concerning to me is that both the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox both have renderings and plans out for the public to see and the Rays and A’s do not.
There is NO WAY they put seats in center field surrounded by fountains. No one there would be able to hear anything but the water. It would be like sitting inside a waterfall. A lot of this won't happen. Early renderings are always full of crap, meant to impress people so the public pays for it.
We don’t need another stadium. I like to be able to party out in the parking lot. We’re not like other cities we aren’t stupid enough to build a stadium downtown. It would be a nightmare getting in and out of the stadium. Let them use their own money to build the damn stadium and forget about the 38 cents sales tax! Vote no!
We don’t need a new stadium. Jackson County just got hit with tax assessments that went up some 200% on some property. They want to build a new stadium. They want to build it downtown. It’s hard enough getting downtown now. You throw a stadium in there and I won’t go. Let the Royals move, there’s nothing wrong with the stadium. It’s just these owners want to make more money off of us and don’t give a rats ass about anything but money some other team move in. Will be glad to have the real stadium vote.
Looks terrible. So many issues. And only 35K seating....How many seats are going to be wet when the wind blows. And the outfield walls are going to be hard to play.
Be careful what you wish for. You will pay much more for parking. Getting to and from the stadium will be a nightmare. You will be far more likely to be a victim of crime or assault by panhandlers. And you will most certainly pay more for tickets to see a game in this trendy new monument to greed and avarice.
Keep the damn stadium you already have. It's easy place get to and It's a good looking design. Let me add if they want a new stadium than the owner should buy the whole damn thing and not be asking the people for more tax money. I feel if you lower and mean lower these players money contracts than the Royals organization can pay for there own new playing field. Absolutely not there’s no way in hell we should get out Kauffman Stadium and even pay for it in our taxes. We deserve dividends from the owners of the Royals and chiefs not for them to bully us into paying for their toys as they are billionaires and we are the real Workers
