Day - month - year = perfect I built an A-frame style 4 pc. lift frame that mounts on top of the curb hatch frame. Used it recently for lifting a heat exchanger replacement up through hatches at a job with no permanent ladder recently. Built it to lift a compressor up to a roof before Covid and has been rusting on on a shed floor since then. My employer did not contribute to its fabrication and it still needs an electric winch but it got the job done and no bodies were injured. You need a helper for the heavy lifting.

What you really need is an XtraMan hoist. Unfortunately they don't make them anymore. I set a few hundred refrigeration and A/C compressors with mine over a three year period. You could make your own if you could find the specs and a drawing.

I just bought a miller electric 11-1116 it's a tiny little torch handle and it comes with a bunch of tips and stuff. It's freakin awesome, it makes the big torch handles obsolete in my opinion. Don't get me wrong the big handles work fine especially with big stuff. But for 90 percent of what we do especially reach ins and prep tables and stuff it's the tits.

Great video man. Just wondering how much your crane weighs in relation to the compressor. that would be a good comparison. Seems like you ropped up the winch anyway and if they’re similar in weight what’s the difference. Also Seemed like a little bit to set up. I’m not knocking it, I think it would be great for a lot of applications, too many steps for others
@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival Год назад
It's in Three pieces, the the brackets are probably 15 to 20 lb each. The compressor weighs 95 lb total. It's a lot more manageable to take up the three small pieces. Let's also take into account what happens if you drop the $2,000 compressor? Who's paying for that and who's paying for the damage to your body if you pull something in your back?
@henrybucki7813
@henrybucki7813 Год назад
where is your hand truck? the best lift i have done when i did refrigeration work. i had a convenient store and it had a bad comp on a rtu cooler unit. i took some thick unistrut and made sort of a upside down L PUT A 45 DEG support connecting the angle then bolted it to the steel ladder on the back of the building, the unistrut was fastened using a pipe to the ladder so i could turn the L bracket. i lifted the comp with a come along then turn the L bracket and set the comp on the roof. left it on the job site for next time

Makes me depressed thinking about how bad my vaccum rig is compared to what you guys have ... The one thing you could do to make the job even easier is to rope up a little foldable trolley/platform and wheel all the heavy stuff up to the unit . Avoids having to carry it all the way there .
@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival Год назад
I lowered most of it off the roof, my rope nearly reached the ground, I got another rope this weekend so I can trigger the hook next time on tall roofs.

Curious Rick, I see you and others on the net using a true oxygen / acetylene torch; why? All of our trucks are equipped with an acetylene only torch rig and we have no issues.
@bohanger6315
@bohanger6315 Год назад
Oxy acetylene torches run way hotter, more expensive to use though. The benefit is in the difference in heat the flame produces. Air acetylene cant compete in speed, especially on larger pipe. They both get the job done!
@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival Год назад
It's what I use mainly because that's what they gave us, I used to love the turbo torch when I didn't know how to use an oxy acetylene torch. Once I learned how to use it then I didn't like the turbo any longer because it's slower as far as the speed at which it gets hot and the heat concentration is very broad.

Nice video but you could’ve had the compressor on the roof in a fraction of time that it took just to set that device up. Not to mention that when you add up the weight of the motor and the brackets, it probably totals as much as the compressor itself. I could see using it on larger compressors, but not on that tiny little thing. No disrespect intended. Just my opinion.
@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival Год назад
95# was the total weight, how much money do I lose if I drop it? It doesn't look very big but it weighed a lot more than what it looked like and pulling that straight up a ladder kind of sucks. The winch weighs 20-25 lb and the bracket weighs maybe 20-25 lb.

@HVACRSurvival
@HVACRSurvival Год назад
Always is a big basket but I believe they are. I haven't seen any that weren't.
@throttlebottle5906
@throttlebottle5906 Год назад
there are a fair bit of single phase 460V motors out there, they're mainly lower power devices like condenser fans, blowers, draft inducers and such, in big commercial refer/hvac. the whole reason is that big three phase RTU's/racks rarely have a neutral wire to use 277V single phase. so they most always use two of the 480V phases. you have to be careful on that in 480V units, it's easy to accidentally(head up rear) put a 208/240v draft inducer on an 480V unit. 🤣 in which goes smoke emitter pretty fast, someone just recently did that on one of the HVAC channels, I forgot which one.
