Monk was a genius. That word is certainly often overused, but certainly not when you consider he was easily one of the top 5 creative forces in ALL of jazz music.
Mr. Monk had originally named this song "Manhattan Moods" He later changed it not sure why. I do prefer the original name. An absolute work of art from a Jazz Master.
lmfao he changed it because he decided it worked better as a ballad which (as the name implies) is dedicated to a past lover from his youth, from what I remember people say the name "goes" with the melody of the song better than "Manhattan moods". Of course Thelonious never wrote lyrics for the song, but there is actually one interpretation of this song out there which is sung, in which the singer(Carmen Mcrae?) wrote their own lyrics and sang the melody.
