Can you imagine making a hundred or more miniature aprons with no ruffles or frills for soda bottles? My grandmother was the President of her church circle and they did just that. They would serve Coke a Cola in the aprons during church socials to protect the guests hand from the chilled damp glass. I found a box of them stored in her dining room buffet table when I was a kid. Of course I had to ask my grandmother if they were for for dolls and why she had so many. I asked my Aunt if I could have them to have made into a quilt but she doesn't remember what happened to them.
@AngelaClaytonCostumery
@AngelaClaytonCostumery 6 лет назад
That sounds like something my grandmother would do too! But they would have been knitted. And given to charity afterwards for dolls. In fact she may have actually done that haha. It's funny to imagine a time where aprons around a glass would make the presentation more classy - I don't think that would be the case now!

For awhile in the 70s ruffles in the shoulders like this were in fashion on dresses and tops. I like that style. I even had a couple light weight jackets with them. I do want to make an apron like this in a calico print to use in my kitchen. Only shorter.

THANK YOU. I have been looking for the perfect apron for hours (read: ruffles required) and this was definitely what I wanted. It was a bonus that there is a video and that you did such a great job on it! You explain it very well and it was very amusing :) I think we all know those ruffles are about as "optional" as icing on a cake! I might say to hell with historical accuracy and make pockets. With bunnies. ;) Also thought I would go a few inches shorter and throw on another ruffle at the bottom because- well I think you understand.

Rachel Stephens To make the bottom of the apron heavier so it drapes better over long dresses and doesn’t blow up in the wind. She also said the extra fabric there can be used in the future to fix any visible parts of the apron that get damaged :)
@rebeccafoust2963
@rebeccafoust2963 3 года назад
@@Lil_Leah when repurposing hem fabric for repairs it helps for the hem to have been hand stitched and the inner fold of the hem to be deep. open a section of hemline, remove a section of inner layer hem fabric for repair, close hemline leaving hem visually intact on both the inside and outside. (fabric for repair removed from the 3rd layer hidden inside hem.)
