My Ar 556 is a Tack Driver, 50 yards it is a 1/2 inch dot killer. Pmc tac 62 grain. Shoot out to 400 yards and 20 of 20 in a 8 inch circle. Love my Ruger 556. Optics are a Vortex 1x4x24 Crossfire on a Burris Mount. She is my baby

pmc 62 grain is great ammo, I have a ruger ar 556 that I've upgraded a lot and it loves that stuff.

I bought my AR 556 about two weeks ago and took it out to my range the first weekend and broke in the barrel. I've never broken in a barrel the proper way before so I don't know if that made the difference or if they are just super sweet shooters but I couldn't believe the accuracy of mine. I took it out to shoot last night and run several different types of ammunition and even the cheap steel cased crap was awesome. This gun makes me look like a better shot than I think I really am. My worst group group was 2.05" at 100 yds. I'm telling you, I'm not that good of a shot. I will say that I was shooting off of a table using a rest I've always been a Mini14 guy and with the right ammunition I can get about 4"-5" groups. But the thing with the Mini is that when I change to certain other brands of ammunition with even the same bullet weight it totally changes the point of impact. Might still group ok but I would have to rezero my scope. Strangely the best ammunition for it is Aguila 55 grn FMJ or Hornady or Fusion 55 grain. Back to the Ruger AR......It just doesn't seem to matter what you feed it.

Bought one about 1 year after this vid. I did change out the BGC to a spikes Tactical, and handguard to one shielded. I bought,(because I am a noob) a Vortex red dot sight with magnifier. Going for a Vortex crossfire II 6-18X44. I hit steel at 200 yards no problem, but if you want to check ammo on paper, red dot no good😢 But what I wanted to say is I recently did my 1000 round + and I still love it! It eats everything! Best buy. Thank you for your video

I love my Ruger 556 and will be looking for a scope soon. Great info, on point and quick. I would recommend a mini tripod first before dropping $$$ on a camera. Your video and sound were clear, just a little shaky. Again, nice job for your first video, good luck and safe shooting.

Great video I've yet to make one I got no camera except a phone I've made some awesome shots and coyote kills with my Ruger AR 556 I got 2 one of them free floated w/bipod SWFA scope Timney trigger Luth AR MBA3 stock the proprietary barrel nut/delta ring add a little to the job also the bayonet lug will rub on or prohibit an installation of any brand free float handguard without grinding it down or installing a low profile gas block but after doing it if your gonna do it I'd recommend installing a 20" barrel with a rifle length gas system as the carbine is not as smooth but still very accurate I hunt coyotes w/my regular AR556 with a Vortex Strike Eagle scope and Spikes Tactical Dynacomp 2 and stock trigger I own livestock and have plenty of land to shoot everyday if I wanted to I usually just shoot out to 700 yards but I can shoot quarter dollar size groups out to 300yds on one and 400 on the FF one but still easily hitting 16 oz water bottles at 700 yds Ruger AR very accurate

Just got back from the range with mine. I shot some Hornady 55gr (don't know if it was v-max or what) bought it cause it was the cheapest small box that was in stock. From a bench rest, sort of resting on mag, with a Chinese Aimpoint 1x red dot clone, I got about 2" groups at 100yds on a cloudy day. The red dot looked about 6" wide at that distance. Walked down range to look, and am very very happy with my purchase. Super great weapon. I'd like to see what I would get with a scope and proper bag rest.

Nice job! Mine was used the first time last week. I have a red dot on it bc it didn't come with Iron sites. I was a little surprised. However, at 30 yards it was within 2 in. I know that's not a good barometer but, I've never shot an AR before. Amazing gun.

Finally, someone else shooting Wolf Gold in his AR 556. I got my Ruger with less than 100 rounds through it from a friend. Bought a case of Wolf Gold and soon discovered that live rounds would not extract by hand - I had to either tap HARD on the charging handle or push a rod from the muzzle to get the round out. Took it to a few shops and gunsmiths. J&G where I got the ammo said the chamber wasn't reamed properly, to send it back to Ruger, which I did. A month later I get it and it's NOT fixed at all. Wolf Gold ONLY will not extract even live rounds. So I polished the chamber with jeweler's polish and it's better but not fixed. Nobody can tell me what's going on. WG works in other ARs just fine, and my Ruger extracts all other brands (live ammo, haven't fired anything but WG). I guess just polish the heck out of it again and hope it improves, and avoid WG in future.

I definitely would go with the Ruger after buying the ruger I sold my m&p15. the ruger was just a much better weapon system in my opinion and after I dropped the ruger elite 452 trigger in. the weapon just shoots so much better. hope to have another ranger report soon of the 452 trigger. thanks for watching.

Thanks for the report. That was some good groups. This rifle is great. And it is cheap. I see absolutely no need to drop over a grand on a Daniel defense or something else. It's senseless. They are not made that much better. I have a colt m4 carbine with monolithic rail before they got bought out and this ruger is just as good. Sure the colt has a chrome lined barrel but that doesn't really matter. As long as the rifle works that's all that matters. And these do.
@nickp862
@nickp862 7 лет назад
unless you're laying down full auto fire. I don't really see a need for a chrome lined barrel.

Nice shooting! Now that you have had the rifle for a while is there anything you do Not like about the rifle? We have established it's a shooter and I'm hoping it lives up to the Ruger name. A am also interested in that scope, the local sporting goods store has these scope at the "right price" and over time has it met up to your expectations?? I am very impressed with this rifle and an currently considering buying one pretty soon as they are now on sale. Thanks for your video and again that's some fine shooting for an out of the box rifle, one more thing, how is the trigger? And if it doesn't have a very good trigger is there much I can do about it, as you can tell I am Not an AR15 man and am now just giving in to the temptation of owning one, I have been a bolt man all my life and don't know squat about AR15s, Thanks my friend! Good video and great shooting! BTW, have you ever tried any steel case ammo? I never shoot it but wondered if it would handle it in a SHTF situation.
@nickp862
@nickp862 7 лет назад
ChuckHydro thanks. to try and answer you questions. 1. if i could change anything it would be the flash suppressor it really doesn't effectively hide the flash for dust signature of the rifle. 2. the rifle has been 100% for the most part i have had 5 strange light primer strikes. all with lake city ammo xm193. 3 the scope i picked up around 2007 and to my knowledge it has been discontinued. it serves its purpose but wouldn't mount it on anything higher than a 243. with the short eye relief anything higher you would more than likely get a black eye. 4. the trigger its your normal mil-spec trigger not great but not bad. i have ditched the factory trigger and have put in a ruger elite 452 trigger. which is a nice two stage trigger that brakes around 3 1/2 lbs to 4lbs. 5. steel case ammo i have ran around 500 rounds just to make sure it will eat it. i have found that if you give it a bore bath stuck cases will not be an issue. the rifle according to my count is almost 4,000 rounds and is holding up just fine. i have taken it to two combat rifle classes and am told it wont make it through the course without going down. low and behold it has held up better than i thought a $600 rifle ever would and still has very little play if any between the upper and lower. hope all this has help. thanks for your support.

Thank you very much Down South, I was counting on the Ruger name to actually produce a decent rifle and apparently they have. I'm not much one for steel cases in non-Russian rifle so hopefully that really won't be a problem. FYI they are still carrying TruGlo scopes at Natchez Shooting supply. I kind of figure I would have to do a trigger upgrade so I was including that in my pricing, I'm kind of particular when it comes to triggers and was amazed at the "hot" barrel groups you were shooting with the rifle, very impressive for a combat type rifle! Thanks again my friend, you just made up my mind!
@nickp862
@nickp862 7 лет назад
ChuckHydro lol i know they still make turglo scopes. i was referring to the model i have. like you i dont shoot much steel case since ammo prices in my area have started to go down. i normally run a few hundred rounds just to make sure the rifle will eat it. my thoughts are if a rifle wont eat whatever i feed it. that rifle is of no use to me.
@ChuckHydro
@ChuckHydro 7 лет назад
The thought of a few hundred rounds of inexpensive ammo on hand isn't a bad one, you never know when you will need it!

I know a lot about AR's and money was no object when i went to buy one recently. I challenge you to find a CUSTOM AR at 3X the price that SHOOTS as well as this gun. I plan on making a few minor additions to the gun - but leaving it a non-floated version for utility. A new trigger would CERTAINLY help your accuracy. For $600 its a BARGAIN.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm looking at the Ruger AR 556 and the Mossberg MMR. right now its a complete toss up. Here is another question.... If you have the scope on and are shooting and something occurs that will require you to shoot at 50- yards would you be able to do that quickly and accurately with the scope or would you be able to quickly take the scope off and use the sights that came with the rifle?
@nickp862
@nickp862 8 лет назад
No need a 100 yrd zero you will only be off by and 1 1/2. So yes you could do that. As for quickly taking this hunting scope off and using back ups no not with this mount.

+wallyu5775 The front sight doesn't get in the way at all. even on the lowest power (3 power) you can't see it at all. I have some friends who have a 1X4 - 1X6 and they have reported to me that they can"t even see it on 1 power. if its true or not i don't know.

+Down South Armory I have the same rifle running a 1-4 x 20 and on 1x I can see a blue of it, 1.5x it goes away. With that set up I have, more or less getting shots on target, at least with my eye sight, that tight groups. More user error than anything I'm sure at that distance, but when I can see what I'm hitting at 50y, I can shoot the bullseye out no problem. Great gun for the money. Nice tight fit. Will be removing the A2 front sight to go with a low pro gb and free floating as well.

+dustin dingivan good to know buddy I still haven't gotten around to doing anymore mods to this AR other than putting the elite 452 trigger in it due to lack of work. but that will change soon.
@dustind292
@dustind292 8 лет назад
The only thing I've done was put a Magpul carbine stock on it and the 1-4x scope. It performed as I expected, being that I couldn't really see most of my hits very clear, so any corrections were probably more than they should've been, but wasn't expecting to be printing clovers. I'd say the scope itself is more precise less than 100y, but know I could put a higher powered scope and tighten those groups. The trigger is a soon to follow upgrade I'll be doing, but not terrible from the factory. All in all, it's a great gun. Plan on getting a 300BO upper for deer season and hunting with it.
@nickp862
@nickp862 8 лет назад
+dustin dingivan I would definitely upgrade the trigger. I did make a video on the Ruger elite 452 trigger. it seems to be a very well made trigger. haven't done any grouping with it. just walking in to the woods and ran a mag through it to make sure it was working.
