Another great evolution in the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle line, now with a Composite Stock that knocks off 3/4 of a lbs. from the original Gunsite Scout Rifle to weigh in at 6 1/4 lbs. The 16.10" barrel is capped off with a muzzle break to ease the .308 caliber in this lighter model, available in Matte Stainless Steel or Matte Black Alloy Steel.

Two things I wouldn't say no too: 1) A blued or black Cera coated bolt, the shiny bolt just clashes rather than aesthetically complimenting it. 2) A magazine cut off to allow single loading but only if it was a simple mechanism, Steyr had one in their Scout (per Coopers rationale) but that was part of the magazine construction rather than a component of the stock or reciever.

I nearly went with one of these Rugers but in the end decided on a Browning A Bolt Stainless Stalker in .308. It cost me only two thirds of the price new of the Ruger (plus it comes with free excellent Talley rings). Light, maybe not as as compact as the Ruger GSR, but with the 22" barrel it gets maximum velocity out of a .308 cartridge.

Will the stock be available for purchase as a stand alone item?

Any chance for a .300 Win Mag Gunsite Scout? That's the one I've been waiting for.

When will the composite stock be available for sale for those of us who already own a RGSR and would like to replace the laminated stock? Also, who makes the composite stock for Ruger?

Make it available with the 18" stainless version and Jeff Cooper will smile down upon on you from Heaven.

Any chance of a Ruger American Scout Rifle? I'm tempted by the RAR but would prefer a 5round magazine capacity as standard.

You can actually take a ruger american predator and by changing out the mag adapter and having it drilled and tapped for iron sights, make it essentially a scout. The predator has a 18 in barrel and is threaded. By changing the mag well adapter, it will accept the ruger 10 rd mags. I had a predator and traded it and another gun for the ruger gunsite scout in 308. Minus the tax, even trade.

The A Bolt may lack the higher capacity mag of the Ruger but the A Bolt can be top loaded, something the Ruger GSR cannot. Don't get me wrong I would still get a Ruger GSR. It offers many great features especially now it comes with a polymer stock.

+oncall21 just weighing in here as i have a GSR that I topload often as I use the polymer magazines. That being said, yes the steel magazines don't allow top loading. I almost exclusively shoot with my polymer magazines cause they're lighter and easier to load/carry.

If you have a mag in the ruger scout, it can be loaded from tge top.

@@ddyoder I want aware you could only top load with the polymer mags. I stand partially corrected!

The only failure in your scout marketing concept is lack of caliber choice. A .358 option using all the same mags and such. . . yet 2x as versatile and way more powerful and efficient in such short barrel lengths. Make mine a lefty, laminated, stainless in .358 and I will buy 2 of them.

why do americans still buy bolt actions when they have easy access to semi-auto firearms unlike australia?

Super-reliable, super-strong, and perfect for people who handload.
