This is my review of a si-fi action film about killer robots and a cop with the ultimate mustache. Released in 1984, RUNAWAY is the story of Sgt. Jack Ramsay, a cop that takes down robots that serve as everyday household appliancesgone bad. Some neat concepts and fun visuals make for a good time in this flawed but very fun flick.
Stars Tom Selleck and Cynthia Rhodes.
Directed by Michael Crichton.
Distributed by Tri-Star Pictures.

Michael Crichton, it seemed, could do no wrong in the 70s and 80s. His name is attached to a few genuine classics. Runaway, however, is not one of them. I saw it in the theater, and it is an absolutely fun popcorn flick that has garnered a small cult following. Even then, as a teenager, I thought the effects were a bit clunky. And I honestly remembered very little about the plot - thanks for the refresher. I think the best part was watching Gene Simmons as a villain. He hasn't acted in much, but had his brief heyday right around this time. Thanks for the memories, Orlando!
