If you've been told you have weak glutes, and your physical therapist has given you glute strengthening exercises, there's something you need to know... Glute inhibition could well be the reason why your glutes are not firing as you run, rather than glute weakness. Reciprocal inhibition of the gluteal muscles, either from overactive hip flexors (inhibiting gluteus maximus) or adductors (inhibiting gluteus medius) could be stopping you from being able to use your glutes as you run. Once you understand the effects of this type of gluteal inhibition, you can working on the cause of your glute dysfunction and begin to use your glutes when you run.
