It is race day and I either make it or I break it! The journey comes to an end!
Recap:
I signed up to a Half-Marathon with just 5 weeks notice to support a charity. I am currently short of running shape and at a peak weight of 91kg.
Will I be able to get my fitness down to beat my PB of 1:39:40? We shall see! This is the final part of 5!

A lot of people have no idea how hard even 5k is, much less running a half. 💪

Very very true. I have to keep reminding myself that any distance of running is a great feat and an accomplishment 💪🏿

Well done, solid effort! You had an ambitious goal and pushed through even after realising you wouldn't get it this time. Onto the next one!

Thanks. It was a bit disheartening and the injury makes it worse as all I want to do now is go and run and start the journey to the next attempt. Thanks for the support 🙌🏿

Congrats on pushing through. That was tough to watch the goal slip away. My wife had something similar happen on our Half on Sunday. She had her foot play up in new shoes and was in severe pain after about 13km and had to walk part. You can do all the prep and still something can get you on the day unexpectedly. I also missed a 10km race last year cause I woke up on the morning of it completely sick and unable to get out of bed. You'll get it another time. Been great watching the whole prep series. Maybe aim to hit some kind of shorter races soon when you aren't injured to get a PR on like a 5km park run or 10k since it doesn't take as much buildup and you've still got the fitness from training for the half....

Thanks for the message, it really helps. Hope your wife is not too injured and made it through. I was similar on Sunday, I used race day shoes that I had only used twice before on a 5k and the 10k run in the previous video. I think your suggestion is a good one, I definitely want to chase a 5k PR as the speed to chase the longer times will come from the work needed to go under 20 for a 5K. Thanks for following the series and I am scribbling down ideas for the next challenge 🤓

Thanks bro. I bounce between being hard on myself and being proud that I finished. I will go again though, this is a learning and motivation moment 🤓

No the wheels came off at km20 and he had to walk a few steps that time not that there's anything wrong with that per se.

1:40 is an arbitrary time. Just keep running and follow a structured plan. Pursue the process, not some random time. I have a half this month and wanted to run sub-2 hours but the way training is looking, it's probably not going to happen. I'm fine with this.

Thanks for the advice. The use of a structured plan is so obvious and a big miss for me. As you said the time is arbitrary and the aim is to just get better and fitter. Hope your half goes well, the key part is enjoying the day 🙌🏿

It's funny that when you wach the video, you don't think people were running at 4:3x 4:4x pace because on the video, they don't look running at that pace :D
@WATCHMEWORKUK
@WATCHMEWORKUK Месяц назад
Sooo true, it looks so much slower. In the third video of the series when I was at the track and being filmed from the side, it lookrd nothing like 4:30 pace 😂😂

Thanks bro. Yes, I will go again when fit. I am up for a cycling challenge, not done anything related to cycling on the channel so that would be good. 🤓🤓
