I went from not being able to jog for 2 minutes without stopping in pain to being able to run 20-25 miles per week about 3-4 months later. It can be done.

How did you accomplish this? I'm a fat bastard and would like to achieve your level of power.

@@soundsnags2001 first correct your diet. I went on a ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting. I had to break my carb addiction and teach my body how to go for long periods without eating so my body would learn to burn body fat as fuel instead of just glucose. But you need to take plenty of electrolytes or you will feel too dizzy. Next I started lifting weights in my back yard and then I joined a gym. I also started walking a lot every day, and I would jog for a few minutes and then start walking when I was out of breath. Over time as I lost weight and started to get stronger, I could jog for longer and longer periods. It was kind of a gradual process. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and you tube videos on my ear buds as I exercise and walk and run.

Lost 17lbs in 4.5 months of running this year. I could not have done it if I did not eat properly, meaning eating everything and anything in moderation, BUT removing fast foods and bad sugar. Basically removing 90% of foods that come from a box. One got to have a few enjoyable treats per week.

I have tried couch to 5k more times than I can count and gave up each time because even “walk 5 min, run 1” was more than I can do. I truly appreciate running tips from someone that has been at my level of beginner.

I’m a new runner, overweight, asthmatic and get allergies every time I run…. Apparently you can be allergic to running…. Started training for a 5k in January and found the training program to move so quickly! I couldn’t keep up so I stayed at one day until I could do it comfortably. Sometimes I feel like I could walk faster than I’m running which feels embarrassing when others see how out of breath and tired I am but 6 months in I’m actually loving running more than any exercise I’ve ever done…. You can do it!

I started walking. Built up the walking distance first, as I got stronger listening to my body, I added brisk walking in bursts. My joints got stronger, I did tons of mobility and stretching from the start until I just felt naturally strong and durable enough to start jogging. All that distance walking and hill walking became my base fitness for running. I have never had an injury, my efforts are almost always low impact. I lost lots of weight from a bmi of 31 to currently 26 and dropping. I have begun to add body weight strength work outs (modified push ups, pull ups, planks, etc). I go on 6 hour 20 mile plus hikes once a week, do hill repeats 2x/wk 5 - 10 miles each session, 1 easy run of 5 miles and 2x moderate pace runs of 10 miles and the last day of the week is a recovery day. I put about 2 - 3 hours a day into maintaining my fitness. It's a base for the kind of active lifestyle and community of people I'm pulled to and that I enjoy. Many things in life you can't do without a fitness base.😊 it's a process to start, but a lifestyle to maintain. In my case, for example, the kind of people I wanted to date tended to be athletic types, i wasnt very attractive to what i wanted being obese and even overweight. I could no longer live with the idea that my hopes for life experiences where just my fitness away. I can know go anywhere and do most things on short notice. My mental health, self esteem, confidence, spritly nature, and so much more are at a really good and steady place. My diet is good. It's whole foods and lean meat, yes I eat beef weekly, I just drain the fat and eat small amounts. It's really about lifestyle and consistency. Do a little everyday. If the weather is bad, do indoor work out sessions including yoga. Good luck.

I couldn’t run for that long either until I had already lost a bit of weight first. The way I got started was by going to hot yoga 3 times a week for a month. By then I had lost enough weight to start running.

I want to point out something. Yes jogging and running burns more calories than lifting weight but you should be doing both because the bigger you get, the higher your BMR would be and you would burn more calories daily and the best way to get bigger is by having bigger muscles not fat. So you should do both

I’m 287.5 and I truly need to start moving. I’m 51 so I’m no young spring chicken 😂 I’m willing to get healthier and look better. Just can’t find any clothes that hide the fat and that I look good in. I have a HUGE belly. I’m starting to wheeze now as I move around. 😢 it’s not so bad tho. Thanks for your encouragement.

Just do it. Don’t worry about the belly. It will shrink a little every week. Weigh yourself every morning. You should see yourself getting a little lighter every couple days if your eating healthy. Read portion sizes on ALL packaged foods. Potatoes meat and veg is best for dinner. No oil or butter added and don’t use too much sauces , some are very high in calories. GET A FOOD WEIGHING SCALE AND COUNT YOUR CALORIES. YOU CAN DO IT 💪☀️💪 Have a big bowl of a high protein yogurt and frozen or fresh fruit in it. I love frozen mango with yogurt 😋 and sweeten it with some cinnamon and a little natural Sweetner and tea spoon of honey. It fills you and is good for dessert too

Hi Brendon. I found your channel this morning and love it! I'm an unhealthy 62 year old man who has hated sport of any kind for as long as I can remember. I have COPD, osteoarthritis, type 2 diabetes and am bipolar (so lots of medication). In September 2023, I decided enough was enough. So far (up until) March 2024 I have lost 34lbs in weight. For some strange reason, I want to start running! I have made an appointment with my Doctor to make sure my heart can take it. I weigh, as of yesterday, 238 and a 1/2 lbs. Would your starter recommendations be the same for someone of my age and lack of physical exercise? Many thanks Dave UK
@BrendonCamm
@BrendonCamm 5 месяцев назад
Hi Dave! Wow, congrats on the great progress :) Definitely best to see your doctor to see what they say. But if they give you the go ahead, I think starting out easy and very slowly adding in distance and speed is the best way to get into running for most people. I recently took a break and then got back into training and I actually took the same approach! I feel it's universal :) I hope everything goes well, keep up the great work!

I'm at 290 lbs right now, my biggest thing is my lungs give out long before my legs do. I had asthma when I was younger and I don't know if it's maybe still there, but I have never been active so it never manifested?

I started doing 35 min of cardio every morning. It helped my breathing so much in just 3 weeks. Now I’m starting running and my shins give out way before my lungs now. I had tried walking and then jogging and found the breathing hard.

Omg, it is not true with calories 🙂 of course, with cardio, you burn more calories DURING the workout, but almost none afterwards. On the contrary, during strength training, we burn less DURING training, but more during subsequent regeneration. so the result is very calorically similar.
@steveododo

Burning After work outs are quite low, it does not compensate the difference during the work itself

The real secret is that if you grow your muscle mass through strength training, you’ll burn more calories during any subsequent cardio 😄
