Chi non emigrava non era gente: storie dalla montagna di cittadinanza, di partenze e ritorni
Un percorso Rural Migrantour di circa due ore - di facile percorrenza, anche per famiglie con bambini - alla scoperta delle storie di migrazione, resistenza e ritorni sui sentieri intorno alla Borgata Paraloup. Il racconto delle accompagnatrici interculturali, originarie di Hong Kong, Costa d'Avorio e Germania, intreccia narrazioni del passato e del presente, avvicina i luoghi e si inserisce nel vissuto di tanti altri, di molti di noi, con testimonianze di vita contadina, di tradizioni, di partenze e arrivi, con storie di cittadinanza e di riconoscimento. Percorso ad anello, con partenza e arrivo a Paraloup.
Il titolo dell’itinerario "Chi non emigrava non era gente" racchiude le storie di molti montanari e contadini delle valli piemontesi - intervistati da Nuto Revelli per Il mondo dei vinti (1977) e L’anello forte (1985) - che si spostavano per trovare nuove possibilità di vita e di lavoro. A partire dell’Ottocento e fino a metà Novecento la gestione delle risorse agro-pastorali in montagna è integrata con le migrazioni di lavoro a breve raggio, verso la Francia, o di lungo periodo, verso le Americhe: dalle montagne si spostano e scendono artigiani, arrotini, bottai, calzolai, filatrici, raccoglitori di viole, colporteurs, domestici e contrabbandieri. La forma di mobilità più diffusa, e probabilmente più antica, della Valle Stura, dove si trova la Borgata Paraloup, è quella della transumanza: movimento di uomini e bestiame verso la pianura e la Provenza francese per sfruttare al meglio i divari di altitudine e di clima.

THE INTERCULTURAL ITINERARY ON THE PARTISANS TRAILS OF PARALOUP
Those who did not emigrate were not people: stories from the mountains of cultural inhabitants, citizenship, arrivals, stays, and returns
A Rural Migrantour itinerary of about two hours - easy to walk, also for families with children - to discover stories of migration, Resistance and returns on the paths around Paraloup. The tale of the intercultural companions, originally from Hong Kong, Ivory Coast and Germany, weaves narratives of the past and of the present, bringing places closer together and it is part of the life experiences of many others, of many of us, with stories of peasant life, traditions, departures and arrivals, with stories of citizenship and recognition. Loop trail, starting and ending in Paraloup.
The title of the itinerary "Those who did not emigrate were not people" encapsulates the stories of many mountaineers and peasants from the Piedmontese valleys - interviewed by Nuto Revelli for Il mondo dei vinti (The World of the Vanquished, 1977) and L'anello forte (The strong ring, 1985) - who moved to find new living and working opportunities. In the nineteenth century and continuing until the mid-twentieth century, the management of agro-pastoral resources in the mountains is integrated with short-range labor migrations, to France, or long-term migrations, to the Americas: artisans, grinders, coopers, shoemakers, spinners, violet pickers, colporteurs, domestic servants, and smugglers move in and out of the mountains. The most widespread, and probably oldest, form of mobility in the Stura Valley, where Paraloup is located, is that of transhumance: movement of men and livestock to the plains and French Provence to make the most of the differences in altitude and climate.
